กลิ่นกระดาษ ความหนัก หรือขอบมุมที่ไร้รอย รวมทั้งสีสัมผัส กลิ่นหมึกจากแผ่นสี่เหลี่ยม มุมสงบและความหน้าตื่นตาตื่นใจของเรื่องราว ทำให้เกิดผู้อ่าน และความผูกพันธ์กับสิ่งที่เรียกว่า “หนังสือ” มากมาย

The smell the glue, the paper, the ink, the senses from books always makes readers feel calm and enjoy with story. Books build a special bond between readers and imagination.

ปัจจุบันหนังสือถูกแทนที่ด้วยโลกดิจิตอล หรือความสะดวกสบาย หนังสือที่เป็นเล่มหนา ๆ กลับกลายมาอยู่ในหน้าจอสี่เหลี่ยมที่มีชื่อว่า E-book แต่ถึงกระนั้นบทบาทก็ไม่ได้แตกต่างกัน

Nowadays, Books have been replaced with technology. Books that we can feel the heaviness,the smell of ink or letter on paper that is put into screen that called E-book.

หนังสือสำหรับคนไทยถือว่าเป็นสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ สมัยก่อนใครที่อ่านหนังสือเสร็จแล้ว ต้องไหว้เพื่อขอบคุณเหล่าอาจารย์ที่ถ่ายทอดประสิทธิ์ประสาทวิชาความรู้ให้ หรือแม้แต่การข้ามหนังสือในบางบ้านยังเป็นเรื่องต้องห้าม หนังสืออาจเป็นทั้งครูที่ถ่ายทอดความรู้ เป็นเหมือนแหล่งทรัพยากรทางความคิด เป็นเหมือนเพื่อนที่แก้เหงา เป็นเหมือนแฟนในโลกของความคิดที่ให้เราได้มโน แอบเขินกอดหมอน เป็นเหมือนที่พักพิงให้ใจสงบ เป็นเหมือนประตูที่พาเราท่องเที่ยวไปยังที่ต่าง ๆ

Thais consider book as sacred. In the past, after we finished to read a book, we must give respect and thank them to give us knowledge and we cannot jump or skip books in some reason. Books can be our teachers, our friends, our guide and our fan. It helps us go to other places by reading, be with us when we are lonely and guide us when we lost.

Today, we will take everyone to the last book store that has grown since then to 22,000 square feet in downtown, Los Angeles.

The Last Bookstore อยู่ downtown ของเมือง Los Angeles ในอาคาร Spring Arts Tower นอกจากหนังสือทั้งเก่าและใหม่กว่า 500,000 เล่มแล้ว ยังมีทั้งแผ่นเสียง หนังสือหายาก แกลเลอรี่ และของที่ระลึกมากมาย ในแต่ละวันมีคนรักหนังสือจากคนในพื้นที่และจากทั่วทุกโลกมาแวะเวียนเพื่อสัมผัสโลกอัศจรรย์แห่งนี้ มองภายนอกอาจมองเป็นร้านธรรมดา แต่ภายในจะเรียกว่าอนาจักรหนังสือก็คงไม่มากจนเกินไป เพราะยังมีส่วนที่จัดแสดงหนังสือ และห้องต่าง ๆ อาทิ อุโมงค์หนังสือ ห้องหนังสือเก่า หรือแม้แต่โซนหนังสือบินได้จาก David Lovejoy ที่ยิ่งทำให้คนที่ไปเยือนได้เพลินเพลิดกับหนังสือตั้งแต่อดีตถึงปัจจุบัน

The Last Bookstore is California’s largest used and new book and record store, having opened in 2005 in a downtown loft, Spring Tower. It is just place to selling books but also have over 250,000 NEW and USED books on two floors, new Arts & Rare Book Annex, tens of thousands of VINYL RECORDS and GRAPHIC NOVELS, a huge mezzanine level that includes the Labyrinth Above the Last Bookstore, Gather Yarn Shop, and the Spring Arts Collective gallery shops. There are many people from all over the world come to visit at the last book store. When you see it from outside, it will be a normal tower but inside like book world!!!

The Last Bookstore ก่อตั้งโดย Josh Spencer ชายผู้มีประสบการณ์การขายมากมาย ตั้งแต่รถยนต์ไปจนถึงเสื้อผ้าออนไลน์ และหลังจากนั้นเขาก็ใช้ประสบการณ์นี้ไปกับสิ่งที่รักนั่นก็คือ “หนังสือ” และได้ตั้งชื่อร้านแห่งนี้ว่า The Last Bookstore เพื่อแสดงถึงการประชดประชันในคำกล่าวที่ว่า หนังสือกำลังจะตาย เพราะในปัจจุบันหนังสือเริ่มหายไปเป็นผลกระทบมากจาก E-book และ Amazon

The last book store is established by Josh Spencer who took his decade of experience selling everything from cars to clothes online and focused instead on his first love: books. The Last Bookstore encourages selling and trading of books and records based on its fluctuating inventory needs, as part of a mission to “keep the paper and ink book business alive in an era of e-readers and digital downloads”.

นอกจากหนังสือและมุมสุดมหัศจรรย์ ร้านหนังสือแห่งนี้ยังจัดกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ มากมายตลอดทั้งปีให้แก่นักเขียนและนักอ่านทั้งหน้าเก่าและใหม่ได้พบปะ พูดคุยแลกเปลี่ยนแนวคิดและแนะนำหนังสือทั้งในและนอกกระแส หนังสือจะไม่หายไปถ้ายังมีนักอ่านที่ค้นคว้าหาความรู้ และมีความสนใจในเรื่องราวต่าง ๆ อยู่เสมอ หนังสือที่บอกเล่าพาเราท่องไปยังโลกอีกไปจะยังอยู่กับเรา ถ้าคนที่รักหนังสือยังคงอยู่

There are also have many activities for readers and writers to discuss ideas and sharing interesting of books. The books will not disappear, if there are still readers who are searching for knowledge and is always interested in the stories from books.

โดยส่วนตัวเป็นคนชอบอ่านหนังสือตั้งแต่เด็ก ๆ แต่ก็ไม่เคยไปร้านหนังสือที่ใหญ่โตอย่าง the last bookstore มาก่อน ความรู้สึกเมื่อย่างเท้าเข้าไปคือความตื่นเต้น ถ้าชีวิตมีแอฟเฟคเหมือนในการ์ตูนคงมีแสงวิบวับรอบตัว the last book store เหมือนกับเขาวงกตที่ไม่มีทางออก เหมือนแดนสนทยาที่ไม่อยากออก ใครรักหนังสืออย่างลืมมาแวะเวียน the last bookstore กันนะคะ

For me, I have never seen such a huge bookstore like this place. I love to read and My heart was beating so far when I were there. I think my eyes had sparkle like in the manga. It likes a maze and you can’t go out but for the Last Bookstore is a place I wouldn’t mind getting lost in any day!

SUGGESTED PUBLIC TRANSIT

There is a Metro Red/Purple Line stop 2 blocks from store, the Pershing Square station. Exit the station on the Pershing Square side, and walk 2 blocks south on 5th St. (cross Broadway) to the corner of 5th & Spring. We’re located on the northwest corner (across from the Alexandria Hotel & Buzz, respectively).
