When I was little, I really like to go record store, put on headphone and listen the music but It just appear in my memory. It will no longer have these kinds of store in nowadays. But not for here, Amoeba Music at Hollywood Los Angeles California.

Amoeba Music, Los Angeles is a record store that sell CD, DVD, movie and dramas from around the world such as horror, comedy, documentary, drama, romantic Including music like pop, rock, jazz, blue even the legend music from the beatles are collected at Amoeba Music on 24,000 square feet, the founders are Dave Prinz and Marc Weinstein. Amoeba is established in 1990 or 30 years ago. They have decided to open a record store with passion and want to share with people who have the same love. They rented a place at Berkeley and tried to collect records from various locations. Later in 1997, the branch was expanded to San Francisco and Hollywood in 2001.

Amoeba Music has 2 floors. There are new and old vinyl. Not only vinyl but also have t- shirts, souvenirs, books and bags. Amoeba Music has become a favorite place for people who love music. We've had free live performances from the Flaming Lips, Elvis Costello, Black Flag, Los Lobos, Blackalicious, Jurassic 5, The Roots, Terence Blanchard, John Cale, P.J. Harvey, Nancy Sinatra, The Melvins, Blind Boys of Alabama, Paul Westerberg, Lucinda Williams, Pat Benatar, Poncho Sanchez, Ben Harper, Belle & Sebastian, The Rapture, Queens of the Stone Age, Supergrass, The Raconteurs, DJ Dangermouse and soul legend Solomon Burke.

I can feel the love and passion of the owners from Amoeba Music. My heart was beating so fast like I back to the past. I spent time there almost an hour and reminiscence about childhood old cartoons, retro movies, both Thai and international, are well preserved here. My finger moves to find the desired vinyl and look around like a child get a toy.

Although Amoeba Music is having problems due to the covid 19, the lack of revenue and nearly 400 employees in all 3 branches (Berkeley, Hollywood and San Francisco) are in trouble. There is a request for fund to continuous this store (GoFundMe)

Bus: The #7 and the #71 Muni bus lines go up Haight Street and stop directly in front of our store. Call us for other bus routes. The N Judah train, which is great for those taking BART, runs parallel to Haight Street. Get off at Carl & Stanyan and it’s just a short downhill walk to the store.

Amoeba Hollywood

Metro: Take the Metro Rail Red Line to the Hollywood & Vine Station. We are three blocks from there on foot - one block west to Ivar and two blocks south to Sunset.

Bus: The #2 Sunset bus stops directly in front of the store.
