Escape the Heat to Chill at ADELPHI PATTAYA
We have recently stepped into summer and spending weekend at home sounds boring and hot (for people who like to travel...like me). Therefore, I have come up with an idea to go to Pattaya (again) but first let's get more people to go together! There are not many programs on this trip, I just want to spend quality chill time in a nice hotel, and have some fresh yummy seafood. I guess this is more than enough to calm myself down from the heat.
I leave home late in the morning and I drive with no hurry. The first stop of this trip is at Wat Yansangwararam to pay homage and be blessed.
Wat Yansangwararam is a first-class royal temple, Woramahawihan, in the Dhammayuttika Nikaya. It was built by Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara in order to be a place for Dharma practice especially for Samatha and Vipassana meditation practices. It is also for Buddhists to come and learn the history of the Dharma and discipline.
The temple is huge so I guess I will visit the important spots only.
Let's start at Phra Borommathat Chedi Maha Chakkri Phiphat! It was built to honor King Phra Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke and Chakri Dynasty. It is a 2-storey building with chedi on the top. The first floor is a huge hall while the second floor is where the Golden Chedi containing Buddha's relic enshrined. For your information, it is not allowed to take photo inside.
Close to Phra Borommathat Chedi Maha Chakkri Phiphat is the scripture hall or Ho Phra Traipidok located in the middle of the pond.
Maha Bodhi Tree
The main hall's style here was modified from the style of the old main hall of Wat Bowonniwet Vihara in Bangkok. There is the principle Buddha image named Somdet Phra Buddha Yahn Naresuan built to honor Somdet Phra Naresuan Maharat enshrined inside. You need to always walk on your knees when inside this main hall. Hence, this might not be convenient for those who have a knee problem.
This Buddha Khaya Pagoda is a replica of the Buddha Khaya in India. Buddha Khaya Pagoda is known as one of the four most important pilgrimage sites in Buddhism. It is a place where Gautama Buddha has obtained Enlightenment.
Phra Wihan of Phra Ariya Maitreya is a hall with four-sided archway which is a truly Thai architectural style. There is a brass Buddha image in the attitude of meditation named Phra Buddha Ariya Maitreya enshrined inside. It was given by King Bhumibol Adulyadej and His Majesty the King ordered to have it enshrined here.
There is a lotus pond on the opposite site of Phra Wihan of Phra Ariya Maitreya. Luckily that the lotuses are in bloom now. It is quite a scenery.
The International Pavilions or Swimming Dragon Pavilions are pavilions built in different architectural styles according to different countries. They are located right by the shore of Khlong Ban Amphoe Reservoir. There is a swimming dragon image in every pavilion. There are 7 of them in total from 5 different countries as follows. Lanna Thai Pavilion, Central Thai Pavilion, and Chinese Pavilion from Thailand, Chinese Pavilion from Singapore, Japanese Pavilion from Japan, French Pavilion from Switzerland, and Indian Pavilion from India.
Then we continue our journey. We are about to drive pass by Viharnra Sien and we think it is a good idea to make a quick stop to take some photos but just from the outside.
We turn right after Viharnra Sien and keep driving straight. We are at the intersection now and the sign clearly states that turn right is to go to Swiss Sheep Farm and Sukhumvit Road while turn left is to Buddha Mountain (Khao Chi Chan) and Silverlake Vineyard. I recommend you to take the left turn to Khao Chi Chan and Silverlake Vineyard first before coming back to visit Swiss Sheep Farm. You can exit to Sukhumvit Road at the end directly this way.
I have been to Khao Chi Chan before and I would like to find different angle to take photo this time. I normally drive in and take photos so I think I should park the car outside by the road instead. The highlight of this place is that there is a Buddha image sculpted on the cliff of Khao Chi Chan using a laser. This is the biggest carved Buddha image in the world. The Buddha image is in the attitude of subduing Mara imitating from Phra Buddha Nawaraj Bopit, a combination of Sukhothai and Lanna arts. Moreover, it was built to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol on the occasion of his Golden Jubilee. There is no admission fee here and it is opened from 6 AM - 6 PM.
Silverlake Vineyard is right next to Khao Chi Chan which is owned by Supansa Nuengpirom, one of famous Thai actresses in the old time.
You can even see Khao Chi Chan from Silverlake Vineyard. The charm of this vineyard would be the beautiful gardens they have designed. There are also pavilions for tourists to chill and rest.
This building is where you can find some refreshing drinks.
On the other hand, you can find a lot of souvenirs in this building including fresh grapes and processing products from grapes.
This is a wine tasting corner where they also sell pizza. This outer part area of Silverlake Vineyard has no admission fee.
You can see the huge vineyard from here. However, if you would like to have a closer look of the vineyard and take some photos with beautiful garden inside; you need to pay the admission fee.
I recommend you to come over in the morning or late afternoon around 5 PM in order to avoid the crazy heat.
There is a restaurant run by Silverlake Vineyard on the opposite site of the parking lot. Well, it is almost 2 PM now but we haven't had lunch yet. As planned, this trip is to chill and have some fresh seafood. So, we skip this restaurant and go for another one.
We also skip the stop at Swiss Sheep Farm because we are hungry and we will go to the hotel to rest, swim, and relax right after. We will go to Swiss Sheep Farm tomorrow instead.
We have decided to go for some fresh seafood in Bang Sa-re. I have been here once and I ate at Preecha Seafood Restaurant. I would like to try a new restaurant this time so we have ended up at Jejuk 4 Seafood Restaurant which is right next to Preecha Seafood Restaurant.
We start with the fresh oysters as the appetizer.
3-Egg Salad is next. 3 kinds of eggs are including Crab Eggs, Horseshoe Crab Eggs, and Giant Catfish Eggs. It is served with slices of raw mango. That's why this dish is very sour...
This is Spicy Crab Egg Paste, another pretty sour dish...
Catfish eggs in this Giant Catfish Egg in Spicy Sour Soup, is quite hard to chew. I guess they have been frozen for a long time. This dish is also sour.
As a result, we have ordered Fried Mackerel in Sweet Fish Sauce to balance out sourness of this meal.
All in all, I would say most of the dishes at Jejuk 4 Seafood Restaurant are quite sour in general. Those who love sourness will love it here. However, I guess I would go back to eat at Preecha Seafood Restaurant next time.
Late lunch is done and we are going to our hotel directly. We are going to stay at ADELPHI PATTAYA this time.
ADELPHI PATTAYA is located in Central Pattaya in Soi Chalamprakiat 21 on Pattaya Sai 3 Road. It is only about 100 meters further in Soi Chalamprakiat 21 from the main Pattaya Sai 3 Road.
On the left of the hotel is where you need to drive in for the parking lot underground. The hotel also has a second parking lot behind the hotel in case the first one is full.
Lobby is in a simple design and the whole area looks very new.
We were so tired but feel so much better now after having some apple juice as the Welcome Drink. We feel even more refreshing having it served by a friendly staff with a big smile.
There is a relaxing area full with sofas in front of the Front Desk counter as well as an internet corner.
Next to the relaxing area is The Café Grande restaurant. The Café Grande is divided into 2 parts. The part right by the Lobby serves A la Carte menu for lunch and dinner with variety of cocktail menus and it closes at 12 AM. On the other hand, the back part of The Café Grande serves buffet breakfast from 7 AM.
If you walk through the restaurant, you will find the fitness center before reaching the back door of the hotel. It opens from 6 AM - 10 PM. You can enter by using your key card.
The hotel features a rooftop swimming pool on 8th Floor. It opens from 7 AM - 10 PM.
The daybeds are available by the pool for you to lie down and relax. There is also a pool bar called "Dip 'n' Sip" here offering cold refreshing drinks such as punch, cocktails, and beer.
You can come up here for a panoramic view of Pattaya during the sunset.
We have seen pretty much all facilities hotel has to offer. Now it is time to go and explore my room where I will be staying.
It is very new and clean along the corridor.
I am staying in a Deluxe with Balcony Room tonight.
I would say the room is pretty spacious. It is in cream color tone with laminate flooring and wooden furniture. This also offers the feeling of luxury. The floor is not too cold when walking barefoot and you can even feel the touch of wood which make the floor not slippery either.
There is a small sofa at the end of the bed. The working desk, LCD TV 32 inches, kettle, and free Wi-Fi are also available.
The bed is a king size bed with 4 sleeping pillows.
The balcony is by the bed and it is equipped with a table set. This is where you can get some fresh air anytime.
The wardrobe comes with bathrobes, safety box, and a flashlight inside.
The bathroom is not too big or too small. The shower room is separated from the toilet area by the glass wall. The hairdryer is located by the sink while a bidet spray is also available by the toilet bowl.
Our seafood dinner is at Mum Aroi Restaurant. However, I don't have any photos to show. It is very crowded and the table we have reserved is right by the beach so it is pretty dark and not easy to take photos. In addition, I guess this restaurant welcomes many people everyday due to its size. I have never seen the restaurant this big before, to be honest. It is also a pity that we arrive when it is dark. If not, we would have seen the sunset here.
The new day has come and we are going to have the breakfast at The Café Grande which is opened from 7 AM.
The restaurant is in the right size and equipped with tables of four. I guess this should be fine if all guests don't come at the same time but if they do, you might need to share a table with other guests. It seems to me that it can accommodate up to 40 people at a time.
I would say that they have a wide variety of foods and they all tastes quite good.
Apart from the buffet line, there is also the Egg Station.
We are heading to Swiss Sheep Farm after the breakfast. It is not difficult to get there. From Sukhumvit Road, you need to take the left turn at the intersection with the traffic lights at the kilometer marker 161. Then you keep driving straight on highway number 331 for another 3.5 kilometers. There you will see Swiss Sheep Farm on your right-hand side.
Swiss Sheep Farm opens everyday from 10 AM - 7 PM on weekdays and 9 AM - 7 PM on weekends and public holidays.
There is a huge sheep statue right in front of the farm after the parking space to welcome you here.
The admission fee is 90 THB for adults and 50 THB for children. The coupon on the admission pass can be used to get some grass to feed the sheep later as well.
The entrance is designed to be a big farmhouse.
This truly gives you the feeling of a real farm. It is so cool.
Swiss Sheep Farm has brought Pattaya a Swiss-farm-like in the middle of the mountains. The overall atmosphere is a warm European country farm.
There is a bunch of sheep statues in front of Swiss Midway Games to welcome you to this zone. It is a zone where there are many fun activities available such as darts, cans shooting, balloons darts game, basketball arcade game, baseball, mechanical bull riding game and so on. This is pretty similar to the Thai temple fair.
This is the replica of Ferris wheel which is going round and round.
They try to imitate the grass field in a real farm here where you can see the windmill in the background.
The replica airplane.
These swans are very tame. They don't go away when you get close to them.
There are so many attractive corners where you can get a very good photo. I am sure that those who like to take selfie would love it here.
An extremely enormous wooden Pinocchio.
Swiss Sheep Farm is not only a beautiful photo shooting location in farm atmosphere but also a place where you can stay overnight. There are 14 different styles of guestrooms available here and under these rooms are souvenir shops and pizzeria.
You can even get a horse ride but with extra charge.
This is where you can feed the sheep. Once you are walking toward them with some grass in hands, they will come and wait for you right away.
It seems to me that the main highlight program of Swiss Sheep Farm is this amazing Runner Sheep. These runner sheep don't run on a simple running path but with obstacles. This program makes a lot of laugh and cheering crowd sounds from the tourists.
This program runs once in a while. I am not sure if there is one in every hour but there will be an announcement made through the loudspeaker. They will invite all the tourists from all the areas to come and have fun here. Moreover, the tourists are able to make a fun guess of which sheep will make the run to the first, second and third at the end. One tourist can make one guess and there are 8 sheep in total. If you get it all right, you will get a sheep doll as a prize.
After the run get started, you might need to keep an eye on your guessed sheep because they all seem to really want to win. This truly makes a lot of fun for the tourists.
To be honest with you, this gets me very excited.
After the run is done, they are all here to get food as their rewards.
This trip ends here at Swiss Sheep Farm. It is a short trip of 2 days and 1 night which is just perfect, not too long. However, the weather is very hot. If you don't want to go somewhere not too far from Bangkok, please take Pattaya into the consideration and I would recommend you to travel in the morning to avoid the heat. Lastly, I would like to wish you a very happy off day.
