At the beginning of this month of love, I would like to recommend a romantic place with morning mist and cool weather. Today, I would like to take you on a trip to Thung Salaeng Luang National Park. Many people may wonder where Thung Salaeng Luang is and what is interesting about it. Because the first time we went to Thung Salaeng Luang, we also thought that what was interesting about Thung Salaeng Luang? Until we came here ourselves, we realized that it was not what we thought. So, I would like to use this post to share my impressions of Thung Salaeng Luang National Park.
Thung Salaeng Luang National Park is located in Phetchabun Province (Nong Mae Na Unit). Thung Salaeng has the nickname "Thai Savannah Grassland". It is the third largest forest in the country. It is called Thung Salaeng Luang because it comes from the "Saelang Jai tree". We went to Thung Salaeng Luang on January 8-10, 2016. This trip was by private car.
08.01.59 Day 1
"Aunt Kob", a member of the travel group, planned to leave Bangkok at 5:00 AM to visit the Phaya Sua Krong flowers at Phu Lom Lo and stop at Phu Hin Rong Kla before continuing their journey. Let's go! We arrived at the entrance of Phu Lom Lo around 1:00 PM. We stopped to pay the entrance fee for Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park and asked the officer if the Phaya Sua Krong flowers were blooming yet. The officer pointed to a tree next to the checkpoint and said, "They're only blooming like this." 5555 Oh no, the Phaya Sua Krong flowers haven't bloomed yet. The officer explained that it had rained two days before our visit, causing the branches of the Phu Lom Lo trees to sprout leaves. We missed seeing the Queen's flowers. 5555 It's okay, we can come back next time. So we had to put our plan to see the Queen's flowers on hold. But now the Phaya Sua Krong flowers should be in full bloom. If you're going to Thung Salang Luang, don't forget to stop by and see the Queen's flowers. Don't forget to take pictures and share them with us! P.S. If you're still a student, you can use your student ID card to get a discount on the entrance fee to all national parks.
Our next stop is the "Military and Political Academy". It's supposed to be very beautiful during the winter season when the leaves change color, but when we went, the leaves hadn't changed color yet. 😭 It's still beautiful in its own way, though.
After visiting the School of Politics and Military, I also visited the "Forest Development Project according to the Royal Initiative of Phu Hin Rong Kla". This place is famous for its paper flowers. They grow beautiful paper flowers here.
Besides the paper flowers, there are also various cliffs. The highlight is the name of the cliff, which includes Pha Phop Rak (Love Encounter Cliff), Pha Bok Rak (Love Confession Cliff), Pha Khu Rak (Couple Cliff), Pha Rak Yunyong (Enduring Love Cliff), Pha Titan (Titanic Cliff), and Pha Salard Rak (Love Breakup Cliff). The view is very beautiful. Anyone who comes here must stop by to take pictures. The view is beautiful. During the month of love, taking pictures with your loved one is another good memory.
The next station is "Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park". At first, when we walked into Phu Hin Rong Kla, we thought there wouldn't be much to see, as most of it was just rocks in various shapes. But it wasn't like that at all.
As we continued our journey, we came across signs pointing towards the Warrior Cemetery. We decided to stop and take a look. The signs explained the origin of the cemetery, stating that it was the burial ground for communist members who died on the battlefield of Phu Hin Rong Kla. The legend of this place tells of how the land was stained with red blood, covering hundreds of thousands of square kilometers. The only thing left for later generations to pay their respects to is the land that covers the faces of the fallen, along with the immeasurable loss that is difficult to quantify. Relatives of the deceased and tourists often come to lay flowers, cigarettes, and personal belongings as a way of honoring the spirits of the warriors.
After walking out of the warrior's cemetery, I kept walking and came across a sign for the Stone Button Field and the Flag-Raising Cliff. At that time, I was going to walk back the same way because I thought there wouldn't be anything there. But when I turned around, I saw the Thai national flag flying on the cliff, so I thought I'd go and see what it was. 555
As you walk along, you will come across rocks of various shapes. It's quite enjoyable to just look at them as you go.
After walking for a while, we came across a sign that said "Pha Kaeng Lad". When we walked closer, oh my god! It was so beautiful! The view was amazing, and it was worth the walk. If we had turned back then, we wouldn't have seen this beautiful view. The wind was cool and refreshing up there, and even though the sun was shining, it still felt a bit cold. If you go to Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park, you have to walk all the way to the end. If you don't, you'll miss out on some amazing views.
After taking in the breathtaking views, we finally reached the end of Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park. The flag-waving cliff that we saw in the distance, we've finally arrived! We conquered the flag-waving cliff, yay!
After climbing up to the flag-raising cliff, it was time to come down. We walked back to the car to go to the next destination. While walking to the car, "Brother Jieb", a fellow traveler, told us that there was also "Mong pizza" for sale here. Yes, you heard that right, Mong pizza! 555 As soon as we heard that, we, as food lovers, couldn't miss it. We walked over to take a look and asked the vendor. We found out that the so-called pizza is made by grilling black sticky rice on a tong leaf and dipping it in sugarcane juice. It's delicious in a different way, and it costs 20 baht. The taste is similar to our "khao jee", but we dip it in egg, while theirs is dipped in sugarcane juice and is softer than khao jee. P.S. But it will stick to your teeth a bit. 555 If you go to Phu Hin Rong Kla, don't forget to stop by and try it. It's delicious.
After eating pizza, I went to the "Hin Taek Crack" which doesn't have much to see. It's mostly just cracked rocks.
After we finished looking at the cracked stone field, it was time to travel to Thung Salaeng Luang National Park. It was time to travel "Eekkkkkk" Aunt Kob parked the car on the side of the road to stop and take a picture of the sunset. We love the sunset very much. We feel that when the sun is about to set, it looks warm. Unlike the sunrise that looks hot, so I don't miss to capture the sunset to share with you.
Goodbye, sun, see you tomorrow.
After jumping in the car after taking a sunset photo, it was time to travel to Thung Salaeng Luang National Park. We arrived at Thung Salaeng Luang at around 8:00 p.m. When we asked the officer where the house we booked was (we stayed at the park's house this time, not camping), the officer said it wasn't here. We had to go another 40 km. 5555 The house we booked was at Nong Mae Na Unit. If you are going to Thung Salaeng Luang, please check carefully which unit you are going to.
9:30 p.m. We finally arrived at Thung Salaeng Luang National Park, Nong Mae Na Unit. As soon as we arrived, we felt a certain energy. It was cold! Very cold! And I didn't bring a jacket. 555 The temperature when we went was around 18-19 degrees Celsius, but in the morning it would be around 10 degrees Celsius. OMG 0.O My eyes lit up! After taking a shower, I grabbed my tripod, flashlight, and another camera from the guesthouse to go out and take pictures of the stars. The stars weren't very visible that day because of the thick fog, but I managed to take a few shots. They're not very good, as I'm an amateur. 555
09.01.59 Day Two
This morning we woke up at 5:30 am to wait for the sunrise at Thung Salaeng Luang National Park. There are bicycles for rent in the park for 50 baht per hour. But when we went, Aunt Kob drove us there because there were no lights, making it difficult to ride a bicycle. When we arrived at the sunrise viewpoint, we set up our tripods and waited for the sunrise. At first, we thought we wouldn't see the sun because the fog was quite thick. But around 7:30 am, the sun began to rise and smile brightly in front of us. It was so beautiful that no one spoke at that moment. Everyone was looking and capturing the moment as much as possible.
The sun has risen and is ready to work.
If you're heading to Thung Salaeng Luang to watch the sunrise, don't forget to check out the heart-shaped meadow.
After taking pictures of the sunrise, we went down to capture the morning atmosphere at Thung Salaeng Luang. The morning here is like a painting. I never thought that a grassland ecosystem could be so beautiful. It's like we've put a painting right in front of us. The officer said that during the second week of January, there will be a lot of fog at Thung Salaeng Luang. The period with a lot of fog is from January to March. The officer said that the fog will be gone by March. If you go, you should go during this period because Thung Salaeng Luang is beautiful.
180-degree panoramic view of Thung Salaeng Luang National Park 555
After a short drive, you will reach the office of Thung Salaeng Luang National Park. Stop by to greet and ask the park rangers about the route you plan to explore today.
At the entrance to the tourist service center, there is a sign with the following words: "We will leave nothing but footprints, we will take nothing but photographs." We really like this saying.
After we are done preparing, we will be touring Thung Salaeng Luang all day today. We plan to visit Thung Nang Phaya, which is famous for its pine trees. There are many beautiful pine trees there, so if you like pine trees, you should not miss this place. The officers told us that Thung Nang Phaya has many large pine trees. The beauty of Thung Nang Phaya has made it a popular filming location for many dramas, such as Dang Duang Haruethai on Channel 7, Rak Tong Uem on Channel 3, and many other famous dramas. So let's go see if it's really beautiful.
During the journey, we also captured the atmosphere of Thung Salaeng Luang without fog, so you can clearly see what it's like.
After traveling for about 13 km, we arrived at Thung Nang Phaya. The height of the pine trees made us feel like we were shrinking, like we were suddenly dwarves. 555 It's beautiful, you have to come and see it with your own eyes to know how beautiful it is. Let's just say it's guaranteed to be beautiful.
On the way to Thung Nang Phaya, there are many types of grass growing there. The grass here has a unique characteristic that is not found anywhere else: each stalk of grass has three colors. It has red, green, and brown at the base. When the grass grows together, it appears red. If you want to take graduation or wedding photos, this is a beautiful location.
After returning from a trip to Thung Nang Phaya, we sat and waited for the sunset at Thung Salaeng Luang, but due to the weather not being as cooperative as we would have liked, we didn't get to see the sunset at all. T^T So we were only able to take photos of the clear sky without the sun. If you're planning a family trip, there are also park bungalows available for booking. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway with a change of scenery, I highly recommend this as an alternative option.
This is a beautiful view from the backyard of our accommodation.
This is a park house suitable for families.
As the evening began to cool, I decided to grab a bite to eat at the park's restaurant. Since the sun had already set, I decided to take some photos of the stars instead. However, I wasn't able to take many photos because there was even more fog than the previous day. Sigh, I guess I'll just go to sleep.
10.01.59 The last day
The best time to relax is when we have time to rest. When the time to rest is up, we start to feel lazy and don't want to go back. 555 This morning, I went for a walk to see the fog in the morning. The atmosphere was beautiful. The fog this morning was much thicker than yesterday, and most importantly, it was much colder than yesterday. But it was beautiful because of the fog. Most importantly, Thung Salaeng Luang is very suitable for people who love cycling. The roads here are rough and adventurous. If you are a cyclist, I recommend this place.
After breakfast, it was time to go home. But before leaving, I remembered that I forgot to take pictures of the park's accommodation where we stayed. So I took some pictures to show you, as an option for those who are interested in staying in the park's accommodation. Or if you want to bring a tent, you can do that too, and you'll get a different atmosphere. As for the house we stayed in, it cost 2,100 baht per night and can accommodate 7 people. It has a refrigerator, 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, towels, hot water, and a hot water kettle. It's fully equipped.
On the way back to Bangkok, we stopped by Wat Pha Sorn Kaew and Rai Khamnan Chun to buy souvenirs for everyone in the city. The road back from Pha Sorn Kaew is a beautiful route, so if you're passing by, don't fall asleep! Enjoy the view first, then you can sleep later. 5555
Visiting Rai Khamnan Chulasai, we had to jump into the food first, haha. I recommend the dried fruits, they're delicious. And the fruit juices are also delicious.
After finishing shopping at Kamnan Chul's farm, we headed back home. But on the way back, we came across a field of golden flax flowers, so we decided to stop and take some pictures before heading back.
This trip taught us not to judge anything before we see it for ourselves. Don't think it's not beautiful or there's nothing to see. You can only say this when you have experienced it and seen it with your own eyes. Try to see it with your own eyes and feel it with your heart, and you will want to leave your heart at Thung Salang Luang.
Thank you to nature for making this place so beautiful.
Thank you to "Auntie Kob" and "Brother Jieb" for taking this child to Thung Salaeng Luang by car. 555
Thank you to my mother and aunt, the main sponsors (who paid for it).
Thank you to the readers and those who stumbled upon this.
