The "Khao Yen" hiking trail, 1805 meters long, is open to tourists for the first year.

The page "Klong Wang Chao National Park" provides details on booking and travel.

We are traveling on February 5-7.

The officer said that even though the temperature was in the single digits, people were still complacent because it had been so hot in the city. As a result, they were caught off guard by the cold snap.

A rough overview

- It takes about 40 minutes to get to the office from the bus terminal by car.

- The journey from the office to the starting point is only 34 km, but it takes about 2 hours. Be careful of motion sickness.

  • Picked up a porter at Lo Ko Ka village, passed Pa Mak village where there are a lot of crops, including organic strawberries (you can order them to be picked up on the way back), bitter melon (got a free bunch because they wouldn't sell it), passed Pa Kha village, a large village with a 7-11. The prices are reasonable (bought a mask here because the officer said it would be dusty on the way down).

- The starting point is a sub-unit... There is a bathroom available.

- Day 1: Camp on the ground, the first walk is chill, cross the stream twice, after that it will be a very steep path, less than three hours to reach the camp.

180 degree view, see the sunrise, there is a water source to use, whoever wants to bathe can bathe, walk less than five minutes, there is a 1-room pit toilet, it is quite cold, about 10 degrees, the wind is not strong.

- Day two, we woke up late and leisurely packed up our tents, as we only had a short walk ahead of us. The initial part of the trail was a bit steep, but it alternated between uphill and downhill sections.

The highlight is the group of green ferns along the way, but it's starting to get dry and not so green anymore. It takes less than an hour to reach the Khao Yen camp.

Camping on the ridge with a view of the sunset

  • There is an open-air pit toilet in front of the house, allowing you to enjoy the breeze and the view. You can also explore the waterhole that is far down in the valley below. After taking a bath, you will sweat just enough to walk back up.
  • The sunset can be seen from the campsite, or you can take a short hike to the top of the north or south side for a better view.

If the sky is clear, you can see the high mountains of Burma in the distance.

- It's freezing cold, only 4 degrees and the wind is crazy strong. I had to wake up and warm myself by the fire.

- Packed lunch to eat at the first camp. It took a total of 4 hours (a bit slow because my friend was hurt) 10.00-14.00

After going to the office, taking a shower, and going into town, it was just the right time for dinner.

- No leeches, but there were mosquitoes at both camps.

A quick briefing on the hiking trail before we start (it seems like no one is listening, but it's not the real briefing yet, haha).

The truth is that the Lo Ko village was only supposed to be a stopover point to pick up the porters at the entrance, but there was a miscommunication.

So I came to wait for the three porters in the village.

The three villages, Lo Ko, Pa Mak, and Pa Kha, are located within the national park, which includes both residential and agricultural areas.

However, there is no need to evacuate anywhere because it is a relaxation zone according to the Cabinet resolution on June 30, 1998, which allows those who encroached on the park before 1998 to remain in the area.

Bouncing on the car for more than 2 hours, enjoying the scenery on both sides of the road, which is an agricultural area, including organic strawberry farms that supply the Royal Project.

A one-rai terraced bitter melon (Momordica cochinchinensis) garden, resembling a Wulong tea plantation, and a fragrant flower plot blooming as vibrantly as a crotalaria field.

It's time for us to walk.

The Western Forest of Thailand

I'm still sick but I choose to be herย

Start step stand

Nature clears my head.

You will have to cross the stream twice.

Then it will be almost all uphill.

We strolled leisurely, taking photos and resting along the way. In less than three hours, we arrived at the first camp, which the park ranger called "Camp Stars on Earth".

From this point, looking down at the village (or city?), you can see the lights at night, but... we can't find it.

The nearby water source, though small, has a strong current.

The pointed peak you see there, the 1900 peak, has been surveyed but is not yet open to tourists.

This month, during the early evening, the Milky Way will not be visible. It will only appear around five in the morning (but we won't be awake then - -").

Cold starry night

Get warm by the fire

Lying on the ground

Gaze at the stars and listen to the untamed sounds

This morning is a cool 10 degrees with a light fog, but the clouds are getting thick.

It's good to see you here, even if it's just for a little while.

Besides the fat moss clumps, there are also these white orchids that cling to the trees here.

This camp is known for its cogongrass, while the second camp is known for its ferns.

That's enough chilling, it's time to go out and change my sleeping and cooking place. 555

A 62-year-old hawker (a veteran soldier who doesn't need a sleeping bag, just a white cloth to keep him warm)

The tree is wearing a shirt.

Enjoy the view, we're in no rush today.

Walking around, they started to form cliques. 555

We arrived early, so we decided to explore the small stream for a bit.

Besides carrying the tent for us, Uncle also carried water from here up to us (which was very far and steep).

With plenty of free time, a variety of sweet desserts were created, depending on who was feeling creative. But once they were cooked, we all had to help eat them! 5555

It's a chilling day

The game we play, Killer

We have afternoon tea and dessert.

This camp, happiness alert! The western forest that connects to Umphang. If the fog were less, the sky were clearer, you would see the long mountain range of Burma.

The sun is setting. You can wait for me in front of the tent or go up to the north peak. But we'll go to the south peak because I just went for a walk on the north peak. Hehe.

Dense thorns, not many open views, ferns are amazingly tall.

Too cold to shoot stars tonight.

This morning, the thermometer read 4 degrees. I couldn't stand the cold in the tent, so I had to come out and warm myself by the fire.

(Asking if the picture and caption match 555)

I can't wait for the sun, so I'll just walk in this sweater.

We arrived at the first camp in no time. It wasn't even noon yet, but we had lunch because it was the most convenient spot.

Strolling around and taking photos leisurely

It's always better when we're together

It's always better when we support each other.

Whatever will be

You always mean to me almost there

Arriving at the starting point at the sub-unit, almost two in the afternoon, it was time to bounce back to the city.

Pick up the ten kilos of organic strawberries I ordered (I was going to eat noodles in the village, but the shop was closed, lol)

Stopped by to deliver lunch to Uncle at Ban Lo Ko.

Stopped by the park office to take a shower. The atmosphere was great.

Thank you... He is the cool one of Khlong Wang Chao, one of the western forests. It's really cool to the bone, as its name suggests.

Though the water source is small, it is crystal clear and refreshingly cool.

A bathroom with a view of the mountains, it's so refreshing~

The old man, a veteran, is very tough.

Brother Boon, Brother Pee, Brother Jay, who always helped and asked, whether it was about cooking or warmth, shared their experiences of protecting the forest (it was really hard).

The gang that walks together, but this trip is extra sweet. All sorts of menus to increase blood sugar levels 555... Let's walk together for a long time.

See you .. next time

The next station is...
