We started driving back to the spot I had chosen to photograph the most of this place, driving along the main road, number 1, driving back until we passed the capital city and then out of the city to the north. We went through a tunnel and came out here where there was a toll (the only one on the whole trip) for 1000 isk. Then we continued driving through the pitch darkness, it was really dark. I was afraid that we wouldn't make it in time to see the Northern Lights because I didn't know when they would come. We drove as fast as we could.

It turned out that the path we chose to push today was a detour up the mountain. In fact, there was another closer path that intersected with it, but we couldn't turn in time because we came too early.

The fuel gauge is now showing half a tank. I'm driving with a heavy heart because I'm afraid I'll run out of gas in the middle of nowhere. It's so deserted here, and there's not a single gas station in sight.

It took about four to five hours to drive up the mountain. I thought to myself, "Hmm, maybe the coordinates I entered were wrong," so I tried to stop and check my phone. The road was under construction, with only one lane left, and it was on a mountain. I still couldn't see the mountain I was looking for. I thought about turning back, but I had come this far, so I decided to keep going. I was worried that I wouldn't have enough gas. I steeled myself and continued driving. The downhill road was dangerous, as usual. At first, the coordinates were wrong, and I had to make a U-turn on the road. At that moment, a large truck was coming towards me. I was so scared. I was afraid of falling off the side of the road and that the truck wouldn't see me and hit me. I found new coordinates and drove to the end of the road, where I finally found the mountain. But then I wondered where to park and where to take pictures. I decided to go to a nearby town to fill up my gas tank first. In the end, I was hungry, so I ate at a restaurant in the town and asked them where to take pictures of the waterfall, because it was dark and I couldn't see anything.

It's been a while since I've had a good meal, so I went all out. After I was full, I started looking for a spot to take some pictures. I parked my car in a parking lot where there were only two other cars parked and no people around. Since my car's heater requires the headlights and taillights to be on, even if it's just a little bit, it would have affected my pictures. After a while, I saw a flashing light coming from the hill. I realized that someone was taking pictures from up there, so I decided to park my car further away and walk to the spot. I let Ah Muay sleep in the car while I ventured through the snow, following the footprints up the hill. After a while, I found the path leading up and saw two photographers taking pictures. They were Italian, so I asked if I could join them. They had been waiting there for 2 hours and were taking pictures for the second day in a row. They were planning to come back at 11 pm because they said there wouldn't be any northern lights today.

This is a picture before the light came.

I told him to stay put, and then the Northern Lights actually appeared! It was -4 degrees Celsius, but I didn't care anymore.

As I was filming, my car suddenly turned on its hazard lights. I quickly ran down the hill and left my camera with an Italian photographer. I ran into Ah Muay, who was crying because she was scared when the big car passed by and the car shook. She said she came out to find me at the parking lot but couldn't find me. She thought I had fallen into the water and died because there were footprints leading to the river. She cried until her nose was bleeding all over. I felt so guilty that I told her I would drive to the parking lot and turn off the heater so she wouldn't be scared because there were people filming all over the parking lot at that time. When she started to feel better, we went back up to film. It turned out that the battery was dead again, so I had to go down and get the spare battery and go back up again. I had to go up and down several times.

At that time, it took a long time to shoot, and it lasted until 2 am. So I tried to find a new angle and fell into the water. One of my legs went down. At that time, I was scared and threw the tripod and camera away. Walking on the snow is like a gamble because we don't know what's underneath. If the jackpot breaks like me, I'll go home.

The cold weather and wet shoes were a disaster for the trip. The camera was covered in snow, so I just blew the snow off, fearing that the camera would break. Then I walked back to the car.

At that time, I was going to sleep in a hotel in the city to let my shoes dry, but the hotel was closed, so I parked in front of the hotel and slept there.

I woke up early and drove back to the morning because I heard that it was level 5, so I went there since 5 am, but I didn't see much, so I came back to book a hotel in the capital and ate fried chicken in the car. Then I went to take photos and videos at the mountain again. The weather was good today and the sky was clear.

I tried to let Ah Muay try to control the drone, and I would be on the mountain, but it didn't work. The wind was strong, and she was afraid of falling and breaking it, so we had to cancel it. We only took still photos.

When I came to shoot at this point, I accidentally dropped the filter box down again. One part of me was hesitant to go down and pick it up, but there was nothing in the filter box.

I took so many photos that I couldn't bear to throw them away. If I left them there, they would clutter up the place and get stuck to other people's photos. So I went down and picked up the box to take it back.

These two photographers were very kind. That day, I had lost my lens cloth and didn't know where it went, so I asked to borrow theirs. They let me use it to clean my lens.

After finishing the shoot, she rushed back to help carry the stuff back to the car. We drove into the city to wash our faces and brush our teeth at a gas station there. The owner of the room replied that it was okay, so we drove back into the city. This way was not the one we took last night because we chose the wrong way. We ended up encountering a snowstorm. I thought to myself that if the city was on this way, we would definitely die if we encountered this.

I can't see anything from here, it's impossible to tell what's ahead.

After driving for 3/4 of the distance, I was exhausted from having to constantly control the steering wheel to avoid falling off the side of the road. When I saw a gas station, I decided to take a nap for an hour before continuing my journey. The wind was so strong at the gas station that I felt like I was going to fly away. I bought some snacks and then took a nap.

I woke up and drove to the city. I found the condo where I was staying and parked in the parking lot. Then, the unexpected happened. When I opened the door to get out of the car, a strong wind blew and broke the door. My mood immediately changed, and I was stressed out. I had emphasized earlier that it was not covered by insurance, so it would probably be expensive. After a while, I tried to close it, but it wouldn't open again. However, I carried my belongings up to the room first and then tried to find information to see if I was wrong. I also sent an email to the company to ask. They told me to come in and see if it was badly damaged. I was stressed that day because I had to pay for the door repair.

Last night, we ended our dinner with fried chicken for a late-night snack. We took a bath and then stuffed our shoes with newspapers to dry them out, as they had been soaked since falling into the water last night.

I woke up this morning and made myself some instant noodles with sukiyaki flavor. I brought 10 packets from home and still have a few left. The key return system for the room here is pretty safe. When you check out, you just put the key in the mailbox downstairs. I drove to the car rental company and talked to the owner. It turned out the damage wasn't too bad, only 200 euros. So I just paid with my card.

However, there was only one car with an automatic transmission, so there was no need to change cars. In the end, we continued to use the same car. But it was better than having another car that might break down again and cost us twice. After we finished talking, we drove on until we reached the same path. The snow had started to melt, and the place was the same, but it was different because the path was no longer icy. It was now mud and water instead.

It was raining all the way.

Tomorrow, I will go on a tour of the ice cave and then sleep at the tour meeting point, which is a gas station. But the wind there is very strong, and I have to hold the instant noodles I'm eating to prevent them from spilling. The car is starting to feel like it can't handle it, so I try to park it in a corner of the building, but it's really not working, so after I finish eating, I drive to another hotel nearby. There is a corner that can resist the wind from both directions, so I just sleep there. Then I received an email saying that the tour was canceled because the entrance was flooded. So I sent an email asking if I could reschedule, and they said they would check the road first and then email me back to let me know if I could go the next day. So I'm planning to hang out around here first and then come back to the meeting point later. But if I can't reschedule, I'll just go sightseeing somewhere else.

Woke up in the morning and drove to the next destination.

I drove to the beach where there should have been ice floating everywhere, but there was nothing but ducks.

Driving across to the other side, it's a real beach with real ice.

This is a picture before the second disaster struck. Only this block of ice was hit by seawater, so the picture should be beautiful. Everyone came to take pictures, but this time, I decided to join in the fun. After setting up the tripod for a while, Ah Mui told me to come in. I said it was okay, there were too many people. After a while, a big wave of seawater came and almost sucked me into the sea. This time, both my shoes were soaked, so I was in trouble. I gave up and went back to the car. I didn't even take any pictures. Then the snow started to fall with strong winds, which was the worst. The snow hit my face and it hurt. I sat down to dry my shoes and socks, and I wondered what to do next. In the end, I decided to go to a nearby restaurant in Vik town. But then, another bad luck, the restaurant was only open during the summer, so I had to look for a new one. After parking in front of that restaurant, there was another car parked there, a sleeper car from another company, probably with the same mood. They drove out first, and we started looking online for other good restaurants, as it's rare to have a good meal and be a decent person with them. Then we found one not far from this one. It turned out that we drove there and parked, and we found the same car again. We were all stuck at this restaurant.

You will find

The two people on the left are the ones who came to share the same fate from the previous store.

Let's start with the first dish, shall we? Appetizer, Lobster soup with soft bread (If you want to add more bread, just go and cut it yourself).

This dish is lamb stir-fried with sauce. Personally, I think it's average, or maybe I just don't like it.

This is stir-fried lobster with sauce. If you can dip it in our local seafood sauce, it will be even more delicious.

The bill was quite painful, but since I was already there and it's not something I eat often, I went for it. After eating, I asked for a newspaper to hold on to in case I fell into the water again. I drove to another mountain, which was the farthest point of my trip since we changed our plans not to tour the whole island. Ah Mui was sick and needed to find a place to rest and take medicine, plus the weather up there would probably just be overcast anyway. So I decided to come here as the farthest point. The road was quite rough and the wind was very, very strong. Even in the car, I could hear the wind hitting the car. I drove along the coast, and there were signs warning of falling rocks. If it was a small rock falling, that's okay, but if it was a big rock, well, you don't have to guess, you're definitely done for.

I arrived at the destination as instructed by Google Maps, but I was confused. Where was the water reflection? There were no mountains, and it was so big that I would have to go far. I saw the bridge, but the wind was strong, and there seemed to be a sign that said "No Entry", so I didn't dare to drive any further. So I followed the instructions and took the picture here. There was no reflection, and the wind was so strong that I didn't know if the water would rise. It was getting dark, and my mind was racing. I tried to walk through the water to get as close to the sea as possible and decided to take 12 pictures. I'll put the pictures together because it's really big and one picture won't fit.

After finishing the photo shoot, we rushed back to the car. I forgot to mention that we received an email from the ice cave tour saying that it was postponed to 11 am the next day. The plan was to find a place to sleep near the meeting point. It turned out that the place we thought was the meeting point for the tour was actually not the real one. It was good that we postponed the tour, otherwise we would have missed it for sure. Our meeting point was at the N1 gas station, which was located on a lonely road. At first, we were going to park and sleep there, but the wind was too strong. We couldn't sleep, so we drove to a nearby town called Hof. We drove into town to find a hotel, but it was closed. However, the owner was kind enough to drive us to another hotel in the same town called Hof 1. It looked pretty good. The room we stayed in was a shared bathroom for 87.52 pounds. That day, there were only two rooms occupied out of the eight rooms that needed to be shared, so it felt like we had our own bathroom because there were so few people staying there. The price was quite expensive, but the good thing was that it had a spa, a jacuzzi, and a sauna, so we could relax to the fullest. Breakfast was also included, and since we were very tired at that time, we decided to stay there.

The sauna and the pool are on the ground floor. To get there, you have to go outside and walk around to the entrance on the other side of the building. It's a bit cold, so you have to run. You can't just walk slowly.
Then we went to sleep in the room with snacks until we fell asleep on the soft bed. I can count on my fingers how many times I've slept in a bed since I've been here.
