A pork leg restaurant that's not just about pork legs.

The original Rajawongse Pork Leg Restaurant has been around for over 60 years, since the days of the Rajawongse Pier. It has since moved to the side of Channel 3, Vanich Building, and is now in the hands of another generation who are determined to keep the deliciousness from fading into legend. I know I'm exaggerating, but this restaurant has a history that needs to be told.

Personally, I'm a big fan of khao kha moo (braised pork leg on rice). I've tried it at many different restaurants, some of which I've liked and some of which I haven't. Some have been bland, while others have been delicious. It's a mixed bag. Before I walked into this restaurant, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was familiar with the name "Royal Kha Moo," but a name alone isn't enough to make a decision. However, I decided to give it a try.

The shop is only one unit wide, so it's a bit cramped inside. There are about 7-8 tables available. The shop is still quite new, as they just moved in about a month ago. I ordered the chopped pork leg, which comes with everything: meat, skin, intestines, eggs, and crispy pork belly (150 baht). If you don't want the crispy pork belly, it's 120 baht. It comes in a large serving. The pork leg is very tender, really tender. You could even say it melts in your mouth, haha. But it's really tender! The flavor is rich (but not salty). It goes well with garlic and chili in vinegar. I recommend it.





As mentioned earlier, this restaurant is not only good at pork leg, but also offers other dishes such as chicken rice and southern Thai food like fish maw curry, pork with shrimp paste, stir-fried soft bone, and chicken sweet soup. The taste is strong and spicy, just like home-cooked food. I even asked the owner if they were from the south (because I'm from Phuket), the taste is very familiar.

The kidney soup is delicious and flavorful, unlike the clear broth often found in many rice curry shops. As you can see from the picture, the broth is rich and the meat is plentiful. The stir-fried pork with soft bone is also very flavorful, and the pork is incredibly tender, not tough or chewy at all. The green curry in Phuket is typically made with blood, which is also how I make it at home. However, it's not as common in Bangkok. The stir-fried pork with shrimp paste was a bit mild for my taste. If it were more flavorful and had some whole chili peppers mixed in, it would be even better. They do add chili peppers here, but it seems like they're mashed into the paste.





The meal was topped off with a tangy sorbet that perfectly cut through the richness of the pork leg. I tried both the Mixed Berry and Passion Fruit flavors, and they were both delicious. The sorbet was tart with a hint of sweetness, and it was the perfect way to end the meal.

The overall taste is good. It's delicious and I'm not disappointed. I like it. But the only downside is that the restaurant is a bit cramped. I went there on a holiday in the late morning. There weren't many people yet, and I don't want to think about how crowded and uncomfortable it would be if I went during lunchtime.

This shop is located on Nang Linchi Road, between the Krung Sri Bank Nang Linchi branch and the gas station. It's not hard to spot. As for parking, you can park in front of the shop on even days only. On odd days, you have to park on the opposite side of the road. Or, for peace of mind, you can park at the gas station for 20 baht per hour.
