Hiking in Mueang Chan, both tiring and exciting at Pha Hin Goob

Chapter 00 : Goob Cliff

Khao Koobp is located in the Tung Pela Forest Protection Unit, Soi Dao District, Chanthaburi Province. It is open to travelers only on Saturdays and Sundays. Once you go up, you will find large rocks that look like an open mouth. It should be a good place to take pictures. There are also few areas where you can pitch a tent. Most people who go there only bring a sleeping bag.

The information we had before boarding was really limited, but we managed to convince three more friends and younger siblings to join us, making a total of four people for this trip.

"If you're ready, join the journey with Navigator."

Chapter 01: Start

"It's 6:30 AM now. Navigator, we're in Chanthaburi province, heading to Thung Phel Forest Protection Unit. #Let's go!! Since there are no shops or restaurants at our destination, Pha Hin Goob, if you want to eat anything, please bring it yourself. Of course, you have to carry it yourself. For this trip, we chose to rely on 7-Eleven. We focus on easy-to-eat and easy-to-live food (bananas, milk, instant noodles, bread, candy... etc.). After preparing our provisions, we headed straight to our destination, "Thung Phel Forest Protection Unit."

We arrived at the unit, but it seemed that the officers had not yet arrived. We had some time to relax and walk around. Tourists gradually arrived at the unit. Around 8 am, the officers arrived and asked us to check our belongings before leaving. The entrance fee was 200 baht per person. Most importantly, they announced, "There are no porters today." This caused many groups to have to adjust their plans and remove unnecessary items from their bags. After all the groups had organized their belongings, we set off.

There is a chance of encountering wild elephants here, so there are signs with instructions on what to do if you happen to come across one.

Before you go up, the officer will remind you again about the rules and regulations for walking.

"If you're ready, let's go on a journey with 'Navigator'."

Chapter 02 : On the way

The trail wasn't too difficult, with some steep sections but nothing too strenuous. However, the real challenge was the weather. It was incredibly hot, and we were all drenched in sweat. On top of that, there were thorny plants growing all along the path. If you weren't careful, you were bound to get scratched up.

#I will not describe this part in detail, just show you some pictures from time to time.

The rainy season has arrived, and snails are starting to appear.

The brave little sister wants a picture with the snail.

The first stop.

The second stop, the condition is starting to get bad.

You can refill your water at the second rest stop.

Chapter 03 : Hook

"It's around 12:30 p.m. now. 'Navigator' We are at the second rest stop after walking from the starting point until now. I'm tired, but I can still handle it. It's easy for the fans of the show..."

The scene cuts to a group of tourists who are not too tired and want to set off before the officials.

From here to the top, is it still far?

Officer: It's a bit far, but take your time. It's hot up there, and the sun is strong.

Nond: Okay, I'll go ahead and walk on. I still have some energy left.

Official: Don't rush. What has passed was just the intro. From now on, it's all about the hook. Take a good rest.

Hmm... It's not like I'm not tired from all this walking. It's pretty tough. I wonder how much worse it will get if it gets heavier. But whatever, I'll keep fighting.

Hill

Hill

And then the hill

The condition is starting to get bad.

There is no turning back, and there is no way forward.

If we reach the cave, we're almost there. (The younger sibling who came along read the reviews.)

Chapter 04 : Oh!! Goob Stone

“It's 2:00 PM now. And here we are, 'Navigator', having just passed the excruciating hook section. What are we waiting for? Let's take a picture, shall we?

#Don't be surprised why there are only a few photos. Because after pressing the shutter for 3 photos, we rushed to take care of the bed and lay down. In conclusion, everyone fell asleep.

Around half past three, I felt a surge of energy and decided to explore the surrounding area. That's when I realized that the gaping maw I had seen earlier wasn't the Goob Stone. The Goob Stone, which resembles an elephant's back, is actually located further up.

Let's go for a ride on an elephant.

Love the nation, stand tall, love firmly, stand by our side (5 baht, 10 baht jokes, let it go)

Found a stink bug. I'll stir-fry it with red chili paste later. #!! Different types of stink bugs

Chapter 05 : Bear Cliff

After everyone woke up from their slumber, we continued our journey to Pha Mi, which was not far from our accommodation. However, the path was quite difficult, with some sections requiring climbing. But it was worth it.

From the Bear Cliff, we can also look back and see our accommodation. It's near the mouth of the cave.

Made new friends, forgot about the photographer.

Chapter 06: Simplicity is the Best

The day is almost over. For those who come here and want to take pictures of the sunset, please be patient. Because the sun sets behind the mountain, we cannot see the sunset from where we are staying.

"Alright, in true 'Navigator' style, we're going to whip up something simple and delicious. As the saying goes, 'Simple is the best!' And that's definitely the case for today's meal: instant noodles with canned fish. (Big thanks to the staff member who lent us a pot to boil water, since our team forgot to bring one. We almost had to eat our noodles raw!)"

Chapter 07 : The Sun is Crooked

I woke up with a start at 5:30 am. Seeing the orange light from the horizon, I forced myself out of my sleeping bag and walked through the cold air to find a suitable location. I wanted to take a beautiful picture of the sunrise, but I was disappointed. Until 7:30 am, the sun still hadn't come up. All I got were clouds and thin fog.

Since yesterday, 3 more people haven't been able to go up to Hin Koob, so this morning we went to take some photos to make up for it.

While the other 3 were taking pictures, I had the opportunity to chat with Mr. Charlie, the officer who came up to take care of us. I gained useful knowledge and good feelings. Thank you Mr. Charlie and all the officers for protecting the forest and wildlife on behalf of us who live in the city.

Before leaving, let's take a picture at the popular spot.

Chapter 08 : The Way Back

Chapter 08 : On the way back

I didn't take any pictures of Ada because it was raining and we were just walking quickly.

Although I didn't get any pictures on the way back, I did get a travel quote from a fellow traveler:

"Traveling comfortably is just about paying, but traveling rough is not just about paying," Aoey said.

Chapter XX : Tips for beginner hikers

Travel

- Call the officer to inform your name in advance at: 084-8649357

- The most convenient way is to drive your own car. Open Google Maps and search for "Hin Koob Stone Yard / Tung Phel Forest Protection Unit" (there will be a clear sign when you get close).

- From Chanthaburi city, you can take a shared songthaew.

Food

- If you are not skilled in cooking, it is recommended to bring dried food. Just enough, because I think everyone would not want to eat so much that they have to put fertilizer on the trees above.

- For those who want to cook, you can build a fire on top. If you want it to be convenient, using a gas canister is easy.

-There is water from a spring above that you can use. It is drinkable.
