Today we traveled from our accommodation in Sasebo to Nagasaki Station.
At Nagasaki Station, we arrived early in the morning and purchased daypass tickets at the station (located on the right after exiting the entrance).
Looking straight ahead, you will see the luggage storage. If the storage at this point is full, turn left towards the tram stop. There will be another luggage storage point on the left hand side. (For luggage storage, don't forget to keep the slip. It will have a code to press to retrieve your luggage.)
Tram map in service in the city
Take the skywalk to Tram No. 1 or No. 3 and get off at Hamaguchi-Machi Station (No. 20).
Get off the tram and walk to the right, cross the road and you will find the stairs up to Peace Park. Each point on the map includes:
1. Peace Statue 2. Fountain of Peace 3. Atomic Bomb Hypocenter 4. Nagasaki Atomi Bomb Museum
There are both escalators and stairs to access Peace Park. You can choose to use either one according to your convenience.
Peace park was established in 1955, ten years after the atomic bombing.
1. Peace Statue The right hand raised symbolizes the atomic bomb that fell from the sky. The left hand is like eternal peace. The relaxed face and closed eyes mean praying for the victims of the incident. The right leg is crossed in meditation, and the left leg standing means reaching out to everyone in the world. In front of the statue, there will be black marble engraved with the names of those who died in the incident.
2. Fountain of Peace The fountain is designed in the shape of a bird's wing, a dove, which is a symbol of peace. It was built to commemorate the citizens of Nagasaki who died of thirst due to the heat and chemicals from the bombing.
This is a place where Japanese people come to pay their respects.
If you walk down the stairs, you will see the remains of the explosion.
Walk down the canal to the other side and take some pictures of the clear water.
Walking past the statue of Sadako, the young girl
The Fat Man atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki was larger than the Ebola atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

Take tram number 3 back to Suwa Shrine Station (39) and cross the street to take tram number 4 or 5 to HIGIWA IBASHI Station (37). From there, walk to the Meganebashi Bridge.
Megane Bridge, built in 1634, spans the Nakashima River. Its distinctive feature is the reflection of the bridge in the water, which makes it look like a pair of glasses.
This bridge is where the band Wonglaongfong filmed the MV for their song "Think (Miss)"
Take tram number 5 again and get off at station 50 OURATEHSHUDO-SHITA to walk to Glover Garden.
On the way to Glover Garden
Oura Catholic Church, located before the ascent to Glover Garden.
The Oura Catholic Church was completed in 1865 to commemorate the 26 Japanese missionaries and Christians who were crucified during the Edo period. The Japanese authorities feared that the Japanese people who converted to Christianity would overthrow their power. It is the oldest Gothic architecture in Japan.
Glover Garden is a park located on a hilltop in Nagasaki, Japan. It features old Western-style houses that were built during the Edo period, when Nagasaki was a major trading port between Japan and the West.
As we had to continue our journey to Saga, we didn't enter the garden. We just walked around the area and took the tram back.
We took tram number 4 back to station 31 and then changed to tram number 1 back to Nagasaki Station.
