Tired of work and life? Looking for a relaxing getaway with a cool breeze? We recommend this place…

At 'River Kwai Jungle Raft', there's no electricity (TV, refrigerator, air conditioning, fan, water heater) and no wifi signal, but you'll be fine because there are plenty of activities to do! From jumping, paddling, rafting, hiking to walking around the Mon village near the resort, I went for 2 days 1 night and I loved it. I was so happy and felt like I really got to rest (because I couldn't work haha). The raft has been open for over 40 years and has won many awards, but when I went, I saw that 90% of the guests were foreigners, so I wanted to invite Thai people to stay here. Let's read this review and then decide, okay? : )

Getting There

The raft is located on the Mae Nam Khwae Noi River in Sai Yok District, Kanchanaburi Province. We traveled by private car from Bangkok, which took about 3 hours. There are two routes: Pin Klao Bridge - Phutthamonthon - Nakhon Chai Si - Nakhon Pathom - Ban Pong - Kanchanaburi - Sai Yok and Bang Yai - Bang Len - Kamphaeng Saen - Phanom Thuan - Kanchanaburi - Sai Yok. Park your car at the 'Resotel Pier' and take a long-tailed boat to the accommodation. (GPS Pier: N 14.281035, E 99.000796) Boats depart daily every 30 minutes until 6 pm. If you arrive after this time, you will need to rent a long-tailed boat for 1,000 baht / trip.

We're here!

Upon checking in, we immediately explored the accommodation. The resort stands out for its environmentally conscious design and use of natural materials in its construction. The floating huts, roofs, tables, chairs, shelves, and plant pots are all made from natural materials.

This also offers massage services.

Let's take a look at our room.

All rooms in our resort are identical. Each room features a bed, mosquito net, private bathroom, and balconies on both the front and back. The front balcony has a long table and a hammock, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the breeze.

The bathroom has a bidet, which is all I need. Haha..

You can see that there is a drain in the bathroom floor so that the water we bathe in can flow down.

Many people may wonder, what if there is no electricity at night? Don't worry, they have kerosene lamps here. The room also has electric candles. At night, you can sleep in a mosquito net with the windows open. Sleep soundly without worry... I'm so busy explaining that I forgot to mention the price. The normal price per night, including breakfast and dinner, is 2,945 baht. Including breakfast, lunch and dinner, it is 3,590 baht. Ours is the latter type, divided by 2 people, which is considered good value. P.S. If you book 3 nights or more or book 1 month in advance, the price per night will be cheaper. If you are interested, you can check the details on their website. >> https://www.riverkwaijunglerafts.com/th/

Let's continue to the central area or the dining room. I personally love the ceiling decoration. It has bamboo mobiles that make a lovely sound when the wind blows.

Lunch is served!

From left to right, we have stir-fried pork with kale, clear soup, spicy stir-fried pork, and stir-fried vegetables with pork. I love this kind of meal because even though there are many dishes, each one is served in a moderate amount, not too much or too little. Everything is delicious and filling!

After lunch, the next mission is to climb to the viewpoint to take pictures of the leaning cliff and the Mon cave. When Mr. Chatchai (the guide) is ready, we are ready to go together. We walk on the third path, we choose to go to the end (funny?).

There are two viewpoints (with signs indicating the way). The first viewpoint is less scenic, while the second is much more beautiful. However, since I ate a lot earlier, I wanted to burn some calories, so I decided to visit both viewpoints. It takes about 15 minutes to walk up the hill to the first viewpoint.

The second point, Pha-en Cliff and Tham Phra Mon, are located next to each other. We rested and enjoyed the view at the first point for a while, then continued walking. Along the way, we passed a Mon village (we'll come back tomorrow!) and a large bamboo forest. Our guide pointed out the bamboo where people like to carve their names or words, which was quite cute.

At first, I was confused as to whether the cliff was naturally tilted or not. Why did they need to prop it up with wood? The tour guide explained that tourists believe that if they find wood to prop it up, they will have people to support them in the future. "Is that really true?" I asked. "No, it's not," he replied. Got it!

We have reached the second viewpoint. Looking down, we can see the raft where we stayed. :D

Exhausted from the long walk, we rushed back to our accommodation, grabbed our life jackets, and jumped straight into the water.

The party is in full swing! The crowd is here and I'm loving the lively atmosphere.

Dinner was a simple affair of five small dishes, each one as delicious as the last.

At night, we observed that the Westerners would sit and drink beer together in the dining room, watch the Mon dance (160 baht), watch movies downloaded on their iPads, or read books on their balconies. We didn't know what to do, so we lay in our hammocks in front of our room, looking at photos on our cameras and phones until they were all gone. Then we chatted with our friends until it was past 11:30 pm. See, not having electricity isn't as difficult as you might think. It's actually good because it makes you pay more attention to your surroundings. We slept soundly that night, and the next day we went to the Mon village.

Good morning! Let's start the day with a cup of hot tea to energize our bodies.

Breakfast is a set provided by the accommodation. Bread, milk and orange juice can be refilled.

After a hearty breakfast, it was time for the final mission of the trip: exploring the Mon village. Crossing the bridge behind the accommodation as before, we walked up to find a signpost. After that, we explored the whole place.

Their houses are similar in that they are built with natural materials. Almost every house has a raised platform and a separate water source. Although it is a small village, it seems to have everything you need, including a sports field, a grassy lawn, a temple, and a school. It's a pleasant place to walk around.

Wow, I was just walking along when a beautiful person came to play with me. <3

There are also elephants here. Friends can buy bananas for the elephants. 20 baht per comb.

The next stop is a Mon school. The guide explained that the children here must attend Thai school every Monday to Friday to learn Thai language and other core subjects. After the last period, they return to the Mon school to study their culture, religion, and general knowledge. On Saturdays and Sundays, they must attend the Mon school only. Students will have a day off on Buddhist holy days.

The next stop is the village temple, which features a replica of the Shwedagon Pagoda.

After exploring the area, we returned to our accommodation and relaxed on the balcony for about an hour before checking out.

This was a truly heartwarming trip. We were able to truly relax during these two days and one night, with nothing to worry about except the flowing water, mountains, nature, and delicious food. If you're looking to escape the city, consider this place as an option. The lack of electricity is not a problem, because if you go, you will be very happy.
