...When it comes to "Vang Vieng", I believe that almost everyone knows it and wants to experience this charming little town. And when you want to experience it, of course, everyone has to find accommodation in this city. There are many accommodations in Vang Vieng to choose from according to each person's lifestyle. In the middle of September 2016, I had the opportunity to relax in Vang Vieng. So I took the opportunity to do a hotel review to be an alternative for friends who are going to stay in Vang Vieng. And this is the hotel I stayed at on the first day of my trip.

Mountain View Riverside Boutique Hotel: A Budget-Friendly Option in Vang Vieng
The Mountain View Riverside Boutique Hotel, formerly known as the Boon Tang Hotel, served as our first accommodation choice in Vang Vieng. Arriving late in the afternoon, we sought a centrally located and affordable hotel. The hotel's location offered the perfect opportunity to capture stunning aerial views of Vang Vieng.
We booked five rooms through Booking.com at a cost of 899 baht per night per room, excluding breakfast. This amounted to 420 baht per person for a total of 11 guests. The booking process was convenient, requiring no credit card and allowing for free cancellation. While walk-in rates were reportedly lower, we opted for the guaranteed availability of pre-booking.
From the drop-off point near the Melanie Hotel, a short walk led us to the Boon Tang Hotel. The three-story building appeared somewhat dated from the exterior. Upon check-in, we discovered a guest house-like atmosphere. The ground floor housed a simple lobby and dining area with Wi-Fi access. After receiving our room keys, we ascended to the third floor, where our rooms were located. Notably, the hotel lacked porter services, requiring guests to handle their own luggage.
Let's take a look at my standard room with 3 beds. The room is actually a 2-bed room that has been set up with an extra bed, making the space a bit cramped. However, this wasn't a major issue as we only used the room for sleeping. I especially liked the sturdy wooden beds, which were very comfortable. The room amenities were similar to those found in most hotels. After opening the curtains to let in some light, we were greeted with a breathtaking view of a large mountain. The view was so stunning that we immediately opened the door to admire it. The mountain view from my room was on the west side, so the afternoon sun was quite strong. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the sunset because we went out to eat at a restaurant outside the hotel.
The standard room with two beds on the city side offers views of the surrounding houses. This side faces east, allowing guests to enjoy the sunrise in the morning. Each room has a balcony for guests to step out and admire the view.
Another standard room located on the corner, this side faces southeast. This room is particularly nice because it offers views of both the city and the mountains.
The morning view from the hotel is breathtaking. I woke up at 5:30 am to capture the sunrise. The 3rd floor where we stayed has a shared balcony on the north side, offering a panoramic view. I originally planned to go up to the rooftop for a better view, but the hotel has closed it off. It seems that many tourists were going up there to drink and enjoy the view, and the hotel must have been concerned about safety. The view of the city in the morning varies depending on the weather conditions each day.

A view that stretches northwards.
The hotel breakfast was a pleasant surprise. Although our room did not include breakfast, the staff kindly offered it to us free of charge. The breakfast was simple, consisting of bread and eggs cooked to order, along with French bread. Beverages included tea, coffee, and a delicious watermelon smoothie. The smoothie was particularly refreshing, and the bananas, which resembled plantains but were as large as apple bananas, had a sweet, banana-like flavor.
Mountainview Riverside: A Budget-Friendly Gem with Million-Dollar Views
In my opinion, Mountainview Riverside offers exceptional value for its price. Despite the slightly worn exterior, the interior of the building is remarkably clean, both in the rooms and common areas. The high-rise location provides stunning panoramic views of the city. The staff, though not fluent in Thai, are very helpful and speak fluent Vietnamese-accented English. They even offered us a complimentary breakfast. The hotel's location is ideal for exploring the city on foot, being close to popular attractions like Sakura Bar and Luang Prabang Bakery. A short walk from the hotel leads to the banks of the Nam Song River, perfect for relaxing by the water. Considering all aspects, I would rate my stay at Mountainview Riverside a 9 out of 10, given the hotel's category and price point.
