A Road Trip to Nan: Chasing Mountains, Rice Fields, and Misty Skies
As the rainy season fades and the cool breeze of early winter sets in, there's nothing quite like a road trip to escape the city and immerse oneself in the beauty of nature. Among the many destinations in northern Thailand, we chose Nan, a charming province brimming with cultural treasures and breathtaking landscapes.
Our primary objective this time, however, differed from our usual explorations of temples, traditional houses, and architectural marvels. This trip was all about chasing mountains, rice fields, vast skies, and the ethereal embrace of mist. It was a journey to experience Nan in its raw, natural splendor.
We embarked on our adventure from Bangkok on a Saturday, around midnight. The drive to Nan, spanning approximately 10 hours, was a test of endurance, leaving us with aching muscles by the time we reached our first destination: Doi Samer Dao. Along the way, we couldn't resist capturing the captivating scenery that unfolded before us.
Stay tuned for more as we delve deeper into our Nan adventure, sharing the sights, sounds, and emotions that painted this unforgettable experience.
-- We've been here before, but we couldn't resist stopping by to capture its beauty once again.
The place is still as beautiful as ever, the only change being the tents. Before, they were camouflage-patterned, giving the feeling of camping in a park.
But now, they've become brightly colored tents.
The intricate mountains in the distance, the clear clouds that always seem to cooperate with me when I take pictures --
Is there anything else I can help you with?
-- We didn't stay long at Doi Samer Dao, as we were worried about driving in the dark.
Our next destination was Pua District.
According to our research, Pua District is known for its rice fields, which fit perfectly with our concept of a "field trip" to Nan.
Luckily, we chose to visit during the time when the rice seedlings were at their most beautiful, and everywhere we looked, there was nothing but lush greenery.
The accommodation we chose was also surrounded by rice fields. --
-- Our goal for today is to chase scenic viewpoints, starting with a drive through the fog
up to Doi Phu Kha National Park. I've heard that there is a rare tree here called the Pink
Phu Kha, but unfortunately, when we were there, the tree had not yet bloomed, so we did not see its pink color. --
-- After driving around the mountain for several hours, it was time to go down to the green rice fields again.
Our destination was Wat Phukiet. In my mind, it was just an ordinary temple in the north.
It would have an old, Lanna-style feel, but in reality, it was nothing like that.
This must be the most scenic meditation retreat in the world. --
-- After walking up and down at the Phuket temple for a while,
it was time to head back, as the journey would take 10 hours.
Along the way, I took some pictures to share with you. --
We believe that Nan is a province in the north that is truly worth exploring.
This time, we didn't have much time, so we couldn't visit all the tourist attractions.
However, if you enjoy mountain scenery and scenic drives, we highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed.
Thank you to my travel companions. Without you, this trip wouldn't have been possible.
And thank you for reading my story to the end.
