Hello everyone, it's Fai here! :D Today, I'm going to review a hanbok rental shop in Seoul where I rented a hanbok to wear while strolling around the city. <3 ... This time, I discovered a new hanbok rental shop in the Insadong district, which is conveniently located near various palaces. Let's dive in!
Please embrace my little brother Fai's blog with open arms and hearts, dear uncles, aunts, and older siblings.
Before embarking on her Korean adventure, Fai had two main goals: to track down her favorite K-pop idols and to fulfill her ultimate fangirl dream of wearing a hanbok and strolling through a palace. Without wasting any time, she scoured the internet and discovered a renowned hanbok rental shop in the Chungmuro district. However, upon arrival, she was met with a sea of people, primarily Chinese tourists, causing her dream to seemingly vanish. Disheartened, she wandered through the Insadong district, tears welling up in her eyes. But then, as if by divine intervention, her luck took a turn for the better!
The Easiest Way to Get to Insadong
The easiest way to get to the Insadong district is by taking the orange subway line (Line 3, Sam Ho Seon) and getting off at Anguk Station (안국). Do not get off at Dongdaemun (동대문)!
Note: The pronunciation of "Anguk" is "An-guk," with a low tone on the "guk" sound.
The advantage of renting a hanbok here is that it is located in Insadong, an old town district close to both.
- Turn left at Gyeongbokgung Palace (경복궁).
- Gwanghwamun Square (광화문) with the statue of King Sejong the Great (세종대왕)
- Changdeokgung Palace (창덕궁), turn right after entering
- Bukchon Hanok Village (북촌한옥마을), walk straight ahead
Therefore, renting in this area is the most convenient option, saving you the time and hassle of taking the subway.
Upon arriving at Anguk Station (Anguk), follow your friend's directions to Exit 6, which will lead you to the bustling Insadong district.
Seeing the way out like this, it means you've come to the right place... If you don't see it like this, it means you're lost and in trouble.
From the station, walk straight in the direction you are facing. (Do not turn around and walk up, or you will fall down the stairs! 😭) … It will take less than 1 minute to reach the Insadong district.
Our hanbok rental shop is located near the entrance of Insadong. The storefront is on the right-hand side, and it's called 국민한복 (Kukmin Hanbok). This shop is very popular among young Koreans.
For those who are rolling their eyes at the lovey-dovey Korean couples, seeing this sign means you've arrived at the costume rental shop. Hehe.
Capture a clear shot of the storefront.
Upon entering, a large poster of the shop is plastered on the wall, confirming that you have indeed arrived at the right place.
The atmosphere inside the shop is bustling. This is on a Saturday or Sunday, so it's a bit crowded. But overall, there are only Korean people renting. Very few foreigners. ... The person you see with their back to you, can you turn around and face me please?
Speaking of outfits, there are "so many" hanbok options available here (haha). There are both traditional and fusion styles... or if you're a fan of the drama Jewel in the Palace, they even have Lady Hee-bin's court lady outfits for you to wear.
Modern hanbok designs are more form-fitting and less bulky than traditional styles. However, some shops still offer the traditional puffy style, which I personally don't find as chic. Rental fees start at… (details to follow).
- Regular women's set 13,000 won / 4 hours.
- High-end fusion women's set 20,000++ won / 4 hours.
(Women's accessories such as headwear and bags are included in the set)
- Men's Regular Set: 13,000 won / 4 hours
- Men's High-End "Bogum" Set: 20,000+ won / 4 hours (Men's sets require additional accessories such as hats, belts, and shoes, which are not included in the rental price.)
- Accessory Rental: 3,000 won per item / 4 hours
The price above does not include a 10% service fee. Therefore, the total rental fee for an ordinary woman is approximately 15,000 won / 4 hours, or approximately 500 Thai baht.
For those who want to rent for the whole day because they plan to visit many faraway places, Fai suggests that it is more worthwhile than having to pay a penalty for exceeding the rental hours. Normally, renting on a daily basis will increase the price by almost double, but it is definitely not as harsh as the penalty fee.
Hanbok prices vary depending on the type and style. Fusion hanbok, inspired by the extravagant attire worn in the film "Parasite" (기생), with large headpieces and elaborate designs, tend to be more expensive.
After the ceremony, Fai chose a red king's costume. He wanted the crown prince's costume worn by Bogum more, but it was sold out. His friend, Chom, wore a Jang Ok-jung style costume with dark red lipstick.
The target arrived at Gyeongbokgung Palace, a short walk from Insadong. It took about 5 minutes to walk there.
"I present myself… I must walk with elegance."
The king is waiting for the woman to offer herself to him.
In reality, he was not a king, but a military commander stationed in front of the palace.
"The woman was furious. She was told to marry the security guard in front of the building. She immediately called her friends to complain and searched for a mental health hotline."
Chan, bewildered, scratched his head and exclaimed, "What the heck?"
The soldiers looked good and were well-fed. They were also friendly and easy to get along with.

Having completed the traditional photo shoot, let's try a Vogue-style one.
The photographer is amazing... The photographer poses better than the model themselves. <3
The two of them were asked to take a lot of photos while walking around the palace. This is because Korean girls often choose to wear light, sweet, pastel-colored hanbok with Pimtha's soft filter. When their friends complimented them on wearing dark colors, they looked like ghosts and put on dark lipstick, so they stood out the most in the palace... As for Fai, he's the king of rap, you know. <3

One set is not enough, let's continue with the yellow king's father's set... Before leaving, we have to take a selfie with a peace sign. We will walk to #Changdeokgung Palace (Changdeokgung Palace) in less than 10 minutes, but it will be on the other side of Dyeongbokgung Palace, facing the other direction.
Upon arrival, they were immediately asked for photos. The three women are from the Philippines and have come to apply to be royal consorts.
This section features Korean women.

I'm hungry. Where is everyone?
A candid shot taken after many attempts.
Knock, knock, knock. Open the door.
The hanbok rental review is complete! The shop is located in Insadong, not far from the Gyeongbokgung Palace. I hope this gives you some ideas for your next trip to Seoul. See you later!

I love you, secretly.
