It's winter, let's go to Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai 2 Days 1 Night | 12 Check-in

Chiang Mai: A Solo Trip

This trip marks my first solo adventure, though not my first encounter with the captivating city of Chiang Mai. I chose to return for its manageable size and suitability for solo exploration. Relying on red taxis and walking, I opted to focus on the city center, prioritizing a relaxed itinerary of coffee breaks and leisurely strolls, capturing the essence of the city through my lens.

In our recent two-day, one-night trip, we visited a total of 12 locations. We hope this information proves to be at least somewhat beneficial.

12-Check in

5 Cafes | 2 Museums | 2 Temples | 1 Hostel | 1 Tourist Spot | 1 Market

Let's begin.

First Stop: Wat Phra That Doi Kham and Luang Pho Tan Jai

(1.) Seeking Blessings at the Temple:

Our first stop after landing was Wat Phra That Doi Kham, a revered temple perched atop Doi Kham mountain. Here, we paid respects to Luang Pho Tan Jai, a highly revered monk known for his miraculous powers.

Luang Pho Tan Jai has gained immense popularity for granting wishes and fulfilling prayers. Many devotees flock to the temple seeking his blessings, and upon the fulfillment of their desires, they return to offer garlands of jasmine flowers as a token of gratitude.

Location: Wat Phra That Doi Kham is located behind the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek Park, approximately 10 kilometers from Chiang Mai city center.
Opening hours: Daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Transportation: If you don't have your own vehicle, I recommend renting a van or local red taxi to get there. When I hired a van, it cost 600 baht, including pick-up from the airport (plus a bonus visit to two coffee shops).

Check-in at the Second Location:

(2.) Grand Canyon Chiang Mai

  • This unique tourist attraction is an unintentional creation, formed by a flooded area that transformed into a large emerald-green pool surrounded by high earthen banks. Its resemblance to the Grand Canyon in America has made it a popular destination for adventure-seeking tourists.

  • During our visit, we observed that there are three separate owners, each managing their own zone. These zones offer a variety of experiences, including a water park, restaurants, and cafes.

  • If you're unsure which zone to enter, we recommend taking a walk and exploring each one before making your decision.

Location: Hang Dong District, Chiang Mai Province

Opening Hours: Daily 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Check-in at the Third Location:

(3.) Workend Coffee Beach Bar

Workend Coffee Beach Bar

  • This coffee shop is located at the Grand Canyon, Point 1. The atmosphere is like a seaside resort, and I personally love it. There are many beautiful photo spots. If you're visiting the Grand Canyon and don't want too much adventure, but prefer to relax with a cup of tea or coffee while enjoying the view, I highly recommend this place. They also have a (simulated) beach area. There are regular events held here. However, it seems that the shop is currently closed for renovations and will be reopening soon. Please follow their Facebook page for updates.
