A Short Getaway: Bangkok - Khao Kho - Phu Tub Berk - Phu Hin Rong Kla

This short trip report details a weekday adventure from Bangkok to Khao Kho, Phu Tub Berk, and Phu Hin Rong Kla, with a budget of 2,000 baht.

This trip was inspired by this photo.

Everyone is going to Khao Kho these days, so we decided to join the fun.
Before we go, let's plan our trip and try to limit our budget.
In the past, every trip we took cost a lot of money, lol.
So, we set a budget of 2,000 baht for travel and accommodation.
As for food, we'll figure it out when we get there. I wonder if it will be enough.
But hey, let's give it a try. We'll never know if we don't try.
Our route for this trip is Bangkok - Khao Kho - and finally Phu Thap Boek.
Let's go!

The planned budget was "2,000 baht exactly", no more, no less, because we had two bills of 500 baht each.

We started our journey on December 5th, 2016, around 9:30 AM.

We drove slowly to save fuel, and it really worked! Driving at 80-100 km/h saved us a lot of fuel and was safer too.

For this trip, we didn't book any accommodation in advance. We decided to find places on the spot because everything we called was over 1,000 baht, which was more than our budget of 500-800 baht per night. We needed to save money for fuel for the rest of our trip.

Our first stop was Pino Latte, a restaurant in Khao Kho that's always on everyone's list. We arrived around 3:20 PM after a long drive.

We took about 100 photos, but we have to apologize in advance because the only equipment we had was our phone, a 60 baht lens, and a selfie stick. Please don't judge us if the photos aren't great!

The original text is in Thai and describes a traveler's experience visiting a scenic location. The traveler expresses disappointment at the lack of impressive views, but remains optimistic about finding better sights at the next stop. They acknowledge the time constraints and plan to head to their accommodation in Phu Thap Boek before nightfall. The text concludes with anticipation for the next day's opportunity to witness a sea of fog.

Here is the translated text in English:

The photos were supposed to be stunning, but they turned out to be quite underwhelming. Oh well, hopefully the next stop will offer better views. Time is ticking, it's already past four and I haven't reached Khao Kho or secured accommodation yet. I'm heading to Phu Thap Boek to find a place to stay for the night. Tomorrow, we'll see if the sea of fog lives up to the pictures.

We arrived at Phu Thap Boek around 5:30 PM, almost 6:00 PM. We will find accommodation first. Our way of finding accommodation is to look at the sign in front of the hotel and call to check the price. Whichever is cheaper, we will choose it. After trying many places, we finally found a place to stay. Our accommodation for tonight is called Muang Nao Resort. There are about 7 houses and 10-30 tents. If it is a house, including breakfast, it is 800 baht, facing the fog. If it is a tent, it is 500 baht.

However, there was hardly any sunlight on the way here today from Pino latte to .

Therefore, we chose a house for 800 baht per night, including breakfast, because it has a hot water heater.

If that's the case, then it's not okay 5555

Let's go inside the house and see what it's like.

The house is fully equipped with amenities, including hot water, TV, electric kettle, free coffee, and most importantly, warm blankets.

There is a cool cabbage farm next to the house.

Above the accommodation, there are many restaurants selling food to order. There is also a service for hot pot to be eaten in front of the house for 300 baht per set.

Anyone who wants to eat anything can choose. Don't worry about food. There is plenty of food. The price is normal, not too expensive. It's acceptable at 50-80 baht.

Our front yard camping area

The atmosphere at night in front of the house is very cold.

The day I went, the temperature was 19 degrees Celsius and the wind on the balcony was very strong. I was going to buy some beer to sip,

But I couldn't take it, so I changed my plan to buy some hot mama and watch the end of Nakee instead.

555 Our cold wind trip changed suddenly because of the cold wind.

For tonight, let's rest at our leisure….555

I hope you will see the sea fog tomorrow morning. Good night.

I set the alarm clock for 5:30 am because I want to wake up and see the sea fog.

Let's see how beautiful it will be when I open the door.

Ta-da, ta-da, ta-da, ta-da

I'm a little disappointed that there isn't as much fog as I expected.

The caretaker told me that if it had rained lightly around four or five in the morning,

there would have been a lot of fog this morning. But there wasn't any this morning. TT

So sad. But it's okay. Even though there isn't a lot, there's still some.

I was going to walk to get some rice porridge and take some cool photos with the fog in front of my house.

It disappeared in an instant, and I'm heartbroken again. TT

But it's okay, at least I saw it. 555

The fog has cleared, revealing a field of cabbages. 5555

Everyone who comes to Phu Thap Boek takes pictures of the fog or the cabbages. So, I'll just have this picture instead. Hehe

After enjoying the cold wind until after ten o'clock, we were ready to set off for our third destination.

A destination that was just born yesterday on the way down from Phu Thap Boek.

That is Phu Hin Rong Kla, the stone button field.

So, let's go conquer the stone button field together.

"One last photo before I leave. I really wanted this photo to look cool and chill, like I was somewhere abroad. But dreams and reality are different, and the photo turned out as you can see. I promise to bring a camera on my next trip, haha. I couldn't take enough photos, and I was afraid my phone battery would die, haha."

Entrance fees:

  • Private car: 40 baht/car
  • Individuals: 30 baht/person

Return route to Bangkok:

Since we chose to continue to Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park, our return route to Bangkok will be via Phitsanulok, Nakhon Sawan, Ayutthaya, and then into Bangkok.

The distance from the entrance to the rock button field is approximately 21 kilometers.

And then we arrived… Yay!

But hey, the distance from the bottom to the rock button field is 5 kilometers, oh my god

But hey, since we're here, let's go!

This is a map of the journey to our destination. Let's take a look at the scenery along the way and see what beautiful nature there is before we arrive.

The trail is easy to navigate and not strenuous. You can walk at your own pace and take breaks as needed. However, we took breaks frequently throughout the hike. Not because we were tired, but because we were out of breath.

The outfit is very tight, I'm afraid I'll be cold.

We'll see…5555

It is said that when the rainy season ends, these flowers will bloom in full along the rocky path.

It's a pity there aren't more. I missed seeing them...

This photo spot is nothing special. I'm tired... 5555

Let's move on quickly, there's only one more left!

We have arrived!

Exhausted from the journey, I almost collapsed.

I will sit here for half an hour, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the scenery.

Before we return to the bustling city of Bangkok.

This trip was incredibly worthwhile.

It was a nature-focused trip that cost very little money, but the rewards far outweighed the expenses.

Let's break down the costs and see if we stayed within our budget:

  • Fuel (E20) Bangkok - Khao Kho: 600 baht
  • Accommodation: 800 baht
  • Fuel (E20) Phu Hin Rong Kla - Bangkok: 700 baht
  • Total expenses excluding food: 2100 baht

We went 100 baht over budget, but it was worth it for the amazing experience.

If there are any errors in this trip report, please forgive me. See you on the next adventure!

- Farewell -
