Hello again! After visiting three countries in the AEC, it's time for Malaysia and Singapore.
This trip covers two countries in one go, which is a great value (I visited Malaysia once before at the beginning of the year, but only Penang. This time, I'll be exploring Malaysia more thoroughly so I don't have any regrets). This is my first solo trip, and it's been met with resistance from family, friends, and everyone who knows I'm going. It almost made me give up and choose another destination several times.
But in the end, I decided to go. If I want to know what it's like to travel alone, I have to try it at least once! It's a way to celebrate the end of my first semester of fourth year before starting my internship. I want to see how well I can manage on my own in a foreign land with a different language.
Our 8-day, 7-night itinerary
Day 1
Initially, we planned to travel to Malaysia by train from Hua Lamphong, but after discussing with my family,
Concerned by the numerous train accidents reported in the news, we decided to visit Hat Yai.
The exciting part of the trip was that we got the boarding time wrong by an hour. We arrived at BTS Mo Chit at around 7:00 AM.
A motorcycle taxi was my savior. It cost me 300 baht, but it got me to the airport in 15 minutes. I had to run as soon as I got there.
I arrived at the gate just in time. This incident made me realize how careless I can be. I usually go with friends and never miss it.
Is there anything else I can help you with?
Go alone and know everything.
First time bringing the lamb on a plane
We arrived in Hat Yai at exactly 8:50 AM. We then looked for a car to take us to Hat Yai Transportation Center to catch a connecting bus to Padang Besar on the Malaysian side.
We booked a train from Padang to Ipoh, departing at 16:15.
Note:
We booked online in advance because, from what I've read in reviews, the Malaysian trains fill up very quickly.
Malaysia time is 1 hour ahead of Thailand. Therefore, 16:15 in Malaysia is 15:15 in Thailand.
Please manage your time wisely.
To the transportation in Hat Yai, you can ask which car goes to Padang. There is only one owner.
Easily accessible, with buses departing every 20 or 30 minutes (exact frequency uncertain).
The driver will stop at the Padang Besar checkpoint. Please proceed on your own and follow the path through both Thai and Malaysian immigration.
Is there anything else I can help you with?
It is a skywalk that connects to the station.
While waiting to find many beautiful photo angles, the weather was also very hot. It was unbearable.
The train opened for boarding around 4 pm. Upon entering the train, I was immediately impressed.
I wish our trains were like this.
As I sat waiting, I couldn't help but wonder if this would be like the movie "Before Sunrise," where two strangers meet and have a profound connection.

We try to be patient and understand their culture, but there are times when we get frustrated.
Take the little lamb for a train ride.
The trains in Malaysia are incredibly punctual, much more so than in Thailand.
Upon arrival, my first priority was to locate the hostel. Traveling alone taught me that...
We made the mistake of not taking a screenshot of the map to the hotel. We only had the street name, and we didn't have internet access at the time.

We asked for directions as we went along, and almost everyone in Malaysia spoke English.

The slide from the second floor is not very slippery, or maybe it's because we are heavy.
We are very fond of box or capsule accommodations. We even dream of opening one in the future.
Small but very comfortable box, feels more private than a hostel with no bed enclosures.
A long day has come to an end. It's a good start.

Day 2
This morning, we find ourselves in Ipoh, a charming city reminiscent of Penang. If you're a fan of Penang's street art scene, you'll undoubtedly fall in love with Ipoh, as the same artist is responsible for its vibrant murals.
Having personally visited both Penang and Ipoh, I must confess a slight preference for the latter. Ipoh's smaller size fosters a warm, welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal city for leisurely strolls.
As for today's itinerary, there is none. I plan to embrace the freedom and explore Ipoh at my own pace.
Waking up early, I took a walk around the old town (Ipoh is divided into old town and new town).
The renowned Old Town White Coffee opened its first branch here.
We started walking to find a store that sells SIM cards and will find our way to the Sam Poh Tong Temple.
After struggling with the map for a long time, I couldn't help but notice a group of people sitting and resting.
They are very cute. Open the map and chase the bus line.
After purchasing the SIM card (the seller was very kind again, they gave us their contact number and said that if there were any emergencies or problems, we could contact them).
He called her, and she gave us several recommendations. We then went to the bus station to visit Sam Poh Tong Temple.
I am unsure if this is Ling Sen Tong Temple. My memory is fading, and I apologize for any confusion. There are three temples in the vicinity: Ling Sen Tong, Tokong Nam Thean Tong, and Sam Poh Tong.
Due to the extreme heat, we decided to return to our accommodation and resume our activities later in the evening.
Hotter than Bangkok? Why, Ipoh, of course.
Translation:
In the late afternoon, we went out for another walk to watch the sunset behind the train station. Our plan for tomorrow…
We were originally planning to go to Cameron Highlands, but for some reason, we changed our minds and decided to stay here for another day.
We found a post about Putrajaya in Kuala Lumpur. If we go to Cameron Highlands, we will probably arrive in Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon.
There is definitely not enough time.

Food cost 139 baht
Total 324.6 Baht
The train schedule is known. Today, we don't feel like going anywhere. We have to wake up very early tomorrow.
Having arrived in Ipoh, a city renowned for its cuisine, I spent yesterday sightseeing and forgot to eat. Today, I will not miss the opportunity to indulge in the local delicacies.
We'll eat at any restaurant that people recommend. Our plan for today is to eat, sleep, and eat some more. Hooray!
1. Khao Man Gai: Located in the Night Bazaar area. Open Google Maps and follow the directions. There are two shops that are said to be the best. The first is Lou Wong.
The restaurant across the street is Ong Kee. We originally intended to try both restaurants, but our stomachs were full, so we could only manage one.
The first bite was delicious. I don't usually eat chicken rice, but this was amazing. I almost cried as I ate it, sitting there feeling overwhelmed with emotion.
2. Egg tart
Ipoh is said to be famous for its egg tarts, so we tried one from a shop I can't remember the name of. It was delicious.
Being in Malaysia without trying Malaysian food is like not being here at all, right? This place is like a central cafeteria, located near the city hall.
With a wide variety of restaurants to choose from, we confidently approached one and asked if they served chicken. The enthusiastic salesperson responded with a resounding "yes, yes!"
We believed it, so we ordered it. The first bite, tears were about to fall. The eggplant (is that what it's called?) and the egg. Ugh, I could barely eat it.
The aroma of spices is strong, but there are also small cups of sweets here as a consolation.
4. Roti with Chicken
After our unsuccessful attempt at Malay cuisine, we persevered and entered a Malaysian restaurant.

I like the warm atmosphere of this shop. It's not air-conditioned, but it's still comfortable.
We call it shaved ice, unlike in Thailand, where they seem to add nuts and a sesame flavor. It's delicious!
The peanut butter toast looked very different from the picture and was too rich, so we put it in shaved ice.
Eating like a cold bang 55555
The lava ice cream and white coffee were incredibly delicious. This experience makes me want to return to Ipoh.

Day 4
We woke up very early, or rather, we didn't really sleep, just rested our eyes. But to catch the train, we could wake up no matter how early it was.
We sat around until about 4:30 am when the staff started opening the counters. There were already a lot of people, and there were hardly any seats left.
At 4:45 am, the train was open for boarding. We were excited to finally be on our way to KL. We didn't know what to expect, but we were ready for the adventure.

I don't know when I fell asleep, but when I woke up, he said I looked sleepy. I laughed, and he said that I should go to KL to shop because there are a lot of shopping malls there.
They responded with a sentence that left a deep impression on us, stating that it is impossible to know who is truly bad, as bad people exist everywhere. They questioned whether bad people exist in Bangkok and Singapore.

However, you mentioned earlier that getting around in KL is very easy. I didn't believe it at first, but after actually being here, I have to say, you're right.
This time, we won't make the same mistake twice. We have internet access, and finding accommodation is a breeze. Just follow Google Maps.

Due to my exceptional talent for getting lost, we decided to head to TBS to find tickets to Malacca (despite the numerous reviews suggesting that
You can buy it today, but to be sure, it probably won't take long to go down.)
There is a direct connection from the station, making it very convenient.

Upon returning to KL Sentral, we took a trip to see the Petronas Twin Towers, renowned for their grandeur.
Waiting for the light show, but I'm hungry. Very hungry. So hungry I can't stand it. I've been tired all day and haven't eaten anything yet.
Hunger conquers all. See you again when the opportunity arises.
We returned to the mall connected to KL Sentral to take photos with the Christmas trees, excited as if they didn't exist in Thailand.
Despite claiming to be famished, she refrained from eating at the mall, finding the prices exorbitant. Instead, she opted for shopping.
No longer wanting to spend money, I sought refuge in instant noodles near my accommodation. I asked the seller which flavor was the spiciest, and they pointed to this one.
This is another reason why we didn't find anything to eat near the twin buildings, but came back to KL. Honestly, it just looked innocent.

There is another exciting thing. We went to the first counter and they said that the tickets were sold out for tomorrow. We went to the second counter and they were also sold out.
I arrived at the bus company's counter, my heart pounding as I waited in line. Would there be a bus available? Finally, there was one. Hooray!
Google Maps showed red traffic the whole way. Can you believe it? Including waiting time for the bus, it took us 2 hours to get to Dutch Square. We couldn't even get off and walk.

Day 6: A Zombie Trip
This trip could be called a "zombie trip" due to the lack of sleep. We started the day very early, leaving our accommodation around 6:30 AM.
We had booked a car for 9:00 AM, and considering the previous day's traffic, which took two hours, we were worried about being late. Although we asked the receptionist if there would be morning traffic, they assured us there wouldn't be. To be safe, we decided to wait for the same bus to the transportation center.
However, it was still very early, and the sky wasn't even bright yet. While we were walking and checking the map on our phone, an elderly man approached us and warned us that it wasn't safe to be looking at our phone. We told him where we were going, and he said he was going the same way and offered to walk with us.
During the walk, we mentioned that we were going to the transportation center. The elderly man surprised us by saying that there wouldn't be any buses at that time and that the first one wouldn't arrive until 7:30 AM. We were shocked. If we had to wait until 7:30 AM and the traffic was as bad as the previous day, we wouldn't make it on time.
Initially, we didn't believe him, but we waited and waited until 7:00 AM, and no buses passed by. We started to panic and opened Google Maps to check the distance to the transportation center. It was almost 4 kilometers. We decided to walk, considering it a chance to explore the city. We were optimistic, thinking that even if we walked slowly, we would still make it on time.
The map is crazy. I feel like I'm going crazy. The stuff is heavy. The path that Google Maps took me to is very secluded. There are almost no people or cars. It's not a main road.
We stood there awkwardly, unsure of where to go next. A kind uncle stopped his car and asked, "Where are you going?" We replied, "To the transportation hub, please. Which way should we go?"
The uncle said we were going the same way, so I got in the car. At that moment, I hesitated whether to get in or not, wondering if it was safe. While my brain was thinking, my body had already gotten in the car. Haha.
We managed to arrive just in time for the 7:30 deadline. We expressed our gratitude repeatedly.
By the time I arrived at the bakery, the bread I had eaten had already been digested. As I waited, I realized that there were hardly any ordinary restaurants open in the morning, so I decided to have McDonald's instead.

The experience was enjoyable, but I couldn't help but feel a tinge of regret for not purchasing the Tourist Pass. Ultimately, the decision depends on individual preferences and travel plans.
Upon arrival, I must admit that I was bewildered by the complexity of the MRT lines. With so many lines, it was far more intricate than the two lines we have in Thailand. I felt quite disoriented.
Wandering around, asking people for directions. After a while, I got used to it and had a lot of fun. Singapore's transportation system is excellent, covering everything and making travel convenient.

Day 8
It's the last day. I'm going to cry. I woke up feeling like I didn't want to go back. 555
We started the day at the botanic garden, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Getting there: Just get off at the station with the same name. It's very easy.
Of all the places I've been, this is the biggest public park. At first, we thought we'd spend about an hour here.
But when we actually walked around, why is it so big!! We spent 2 hours just walking around.
It opens around 5 am, I'm not sure exactly when it closes, but it's very late. When we went, it was around 7 am.
So lush, you'd forget this park is in the middle of the city.
Santa Claus
The reason I wanted to come here was because of this spot. It's so beautiful, I love it! But I could only stay for a short while because there were people waiting to take photos.
Another pre-wedding shoot? They're putting pressure on me, so I'm giving in.
Additionally, the National Orchid Garden is located here, but an entrance fee is required.
To reach your next destination, ION Orchard, located on Orchard Road, take the MRT to Orchard Station.
Our goal is to reach the ION Art Gallery on the 4th floor to enjoy the panoramic view of Singapore from the 55th floor. It may sound complicated, but it's actually quite straightforward.
However, upon arrival, we encountered a minor disappointment: the viewpoint only opens in the afternoon at 3 pm.
If I miss my flight, I'll see you again next time. Since I'm already here, let me take a moment to appreciate the art gallery.

Before and after my trip, my perception of Singapore changed dramatically. Initially, I believed that three days and two nights would be sufficient, as I am not a shopaholic. However, upon arrival, I discovered numerous hidden gems that shattered my preconceptions. Singapore boasts an abundance of natural trails, a stark contrast to the stereotypical image of shopping malls and Chinatown. I explored facets of Singapore rarely witnessed by tourists, leaving me with a profound appreciation for its diverse offerings. Time constraints prevented me from visiting all the desired locations, but I vow to return. The affordability of flights, comparable to domestic travel, further enticed me. During check-out, the receptionist jokingly suggested I find a partner in Singapore, to which I playfully responded, "I think so, that sounds great!" However, I acknowledged the need to enhance my English skills before returning, equipped with running shoes and attire.
