From the previous episode, Nulek and her friends have arrived in Venice by train. Did you catch the train in time?

Exiting Venezia Santa Lucia station, the main railway station on the island of Venice (Venezia in Italian, pronounced "Venezia"), we are greeted by a canal. This canal, the Grand Canal (Canal Grande), serves as the primary waterway for transportation in Venice. Stay tuned as I guide you through the wonders of Venice in the upcoming installments. You'll surely be overwhelmed by its charm.

Standing before the train station, one is met with the bustling scene of the waterfront. This street, Fondamenta Santa Lucia, is where you can purchase tickets for the many water taxis that line the docks. Remember, the most popular mode of transportation in Venice is by boat, specifically the water buses. Look for the white boats with "Actv" on the side. Before boarding, check which lines stop at each dock and whether they reach your desired destination. Think of it as a water-based bus system. Today, we have just arrived and will head to our accommodation first. We have several days in Venice, so there's no need to rush. However, keep in mind that there are no cars on the island. For areas inaccessible by boat, walking is essential for exploring Venice. Without walking, you won't be able to see it all.

After reviewing the map and communicating with the host, we realized that the accommodation we booked was not far from the train station. We started using the Maps.me application again to navigate us to the accommodation. Today's accommodation is booked through Airbnb, a new type of accommodation service that is becoming increasingly popular among travelers. There are options for renting the entire place or staying with the host. For our stay in Venice, as it was the last three nights before our return trip, we intentionally chose a relatively comfortable accommodation where we could cook and eat freely. Therefore, we chose to rent the entire place (Entire Place). We ended up at this modern apartment-style accommodation. Although it may be a bit far from the tourist attractions, we prefer to be close to public transportation because it will be more convenient for dragging our luggage on the way back. As I mentioned in Strasbourg, dragging luggage on cobblestone streets is not fun. It is tiring for the arms, makes a lot of noise, and the wheels can flip over if you don't drag it properly. It's best to drag it for short distances.

This accommodation is hosted by a Superhost named Giorgia Bertoldi. Giorgia's Superhost status indicates that she has consistently received positive reviews from guests, demonstrating her commitment to providing exceptional hospitality. Upon arrival, Giorgia was waiting for us at the building entrance, showcasing her dedication to guest satisfaction. Giorgia, a young woman with a friendly demeanor, escorted us to our apartment on the upper floor. The apartment was immaculate and matched the description provided in the listing. Giorgia meticulously explained everything, ensuring we had a comfortable stay. After addressing all our inquiries, she informed us that she was available for assistance throughout our stay, allowing us to relax and enjoy the apartment after our long journey.

The highlight of our afternoon was the arrival of our special guest, Sud, who drove all the way from Parma, a city about 225 kilometers or a 3.5-hour drive from Venice, to spend some quality time with us. This was a truly joyous occasion, as it is a rare opportunity to meet up with an old friend from our hometown after being away from home for so long. To be able to create lasting memories together in the romantic setting of Venice is something truly special. How could we not be excited? Upon her arrival, it will be time for us to embark on our exploration of Venice together. Just wait a little longer, and I will take you on a light tour of Venice, starting from our first day. I guarantee that you will fall in love with Venice from day one.
