Our initial plan for this trip was to visit the Balloon Festival at Singha Park, Chiang Rai. We then started looking for accommodation and came across The White House Boutique Resort. We noticed that it had recently opened, approximately two months prior, and was conveniently located near the event venue and other nearby tourist attractions. Without hesitation, we contacted the resort directly to book our stay. Fortunately, there was availability during our desired dates. Let's explore the resort's ambiance and nearby attractions.
The White House Boutique, Chiang Rai
Located approximately 27 kilometers from Mae Fah Luang Airport in Chiang Rai, the resort is accessible by driving through Chiang Rai city towards Singha Park. Upon reaching the entrance to Khun Korn Waterfall, turn off the main road and proceed for approximately 3 kilometers. The resort will be situated on the right-hand side.
Upon arriving at our accommodation early before check-in, we inquired with the receptionist about nearby attractions to visit while we waited. The staff recommended Khun Korn Waterfall and Pang Khone Village, which also boasts a coffee shop. We opted for Pang Khone first, as it was accessible by car, leaving the waterfall, which required a hike, for the following day.
From the accommodation, drive about 13 kilometers to Ban Pang Khong, where you will find Pang Khong Coffee Shop. This coffee shop has a wooden balcony that extends out as if it were floating in mid-air. Enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the view. This small shop has an excellent view, offering a panoramic perspective of Ban Pang Khong village. According to the barista, if you visit during January, you will see pink wild Himalayan cherry blossoms blooming all over the hills. Unfortunately, there were no flowers when we visited.
The coffee here comes from a source where there are only coffee trees all over the place at Pang Khon. The shop also produces its own coffee, making the coffee of very high quality and taste. Even though we are not coffee lovers, we still want to try it because the smell is so good. We tried a cup of coffee and a cup of green tea. The taste was very good and the price was not expensive.
After enjoying the atmosphere for a while, it was time to return to the resort. Upon entering the resort, you will be greeted by the Hug Por Laeung pavilion. This pavilion serves not only as a lobby for check-in but also as a breakfast area. On top of the pavilion's dome, there is a viewpoint offering 360-degree panoramic views.
Upon check-in, a golf cart driver will be available to collect your luggage and transport it to your accommodation.
Beneath the house, there is a wooden swing where you can sit, relax, and unwind.
The accommodation here is divided into two types: concrete houses and wooden houses. We chose to stay in a wooden house called "Phu Pha Thara". There are a total of 10 wooden houses, and although they are made of wood, they are far from ordinary. In fact, they are quite luxurious, with glass walls and bathrooms that have glass walls and bathtubs for soaking while enjoying the view of the stream and rice fields. The atmosphere is simply amazing.
The room features a king-size single bed with a four-poster mosquito net. The bed and bedding are brand new and exceptionally clean.
The bathroom features a bathtub with a view of the stream flowing from Khun Korn Waterfall. Guests can relax in the warm water while listening to the sound of the flowing water.
House on the Cliff by the Stream 1-5: The balcony overlooks the lake, and the bathroom is next to the stream.
The 6th to 10th terraces of the cliffside section will have a stream view, and the bathrooms will face the guest house.
The room we booked is Phupha Thara 3.
Across from the wooden house where we stayed, there are four types of modern concrete houses: Phutthara, Phu Chom Thung, Phu Chom Duen, and Phu Plai Fah.
As darkness descends, the nocturnal ambiance transforms into a captivating spectacle. The temperature gradually dips, reaching a comfortable 18 degrees Celsius during our visit.
While dinner is available at the accommodation, we wanted to try driving into town for something to eat. On our previous trip to Chiang Rai, we only went up into the mountains and never explored the city center. This time, we wanted to try the stir-fried noodles at the Clock Tower. The restaurant is located directly at the Clock Tower roundabout, making it easy to find. In addition to stir-fried noodles, there are also khao soi and northern Thai curry noodles with pork blood to choose from. Every hour on the hour in the early evening, the Clock Tower lights up with different colors and plays music, attracting many tourists.
After finishing our meal, we returned to our accommodation. We will continue tomorrow. This morning, I barely wanted to wake up because the bed was so soft, making for a very comfortable sleep. Additionally, the morning air was quite chilly. However, since we had several more places to visit today, we forced ourselves to get up and have some breakfast. The breakfast here is simple, with fried eggs, ham, bacon, sausages, stir-fried vegetables, rice porridge, and fruit. For drinks, there are instant coffee packets to make yourself, or you can order freshly brewed coffee from the staff.
After a hearty breakfast, we took a leisurely stroll around the resort, capturing the picturesque surroundings from various angles. This served as a pleasant way to digest our meal. The resort is nestled amidst verdant rice fields, lush forests, and a tranquil stream, creating a harmonious blend of nature's beauty. Its convenient location near Chiang Rai's prominent tourist attractions makes it an ideal base for exploration. The resort's modern amenities and pristine condition provide a perfect setting for those seeking a rejuvenating escape amidst nature's embrace. After capturing numerous photographs, we packed our belongings and checked out, eager to continue our journey to new destinations.
Aerial View of the Surroundings
This sentence describes the act of capturing an aerial view of the area surrounding the accommodation. It invites the audience to observe the scenery and environment around the lodging.
Leaving our accommodation, we continued to Khun Korn Waterfall, the highest waterfall in Chiang Rai province, with a height of 70 meters and a year-round flow.
The waterfall is approximately 1400 meters, or nearly 1.5 kilometers, from the parking lot. The round trip is about 3 kilometers. The trail is through a lush natural forest, and the walk is quite long. Even in cold weather, we were sweating.
After a tiring hike, the sight of the waterfall before us was truly rewarding. The water was abundant, and the cool breeze carried refreshing mist that sent shivers down our spines. We sat there, immersed in the beauty of nature, resting and rejuvenating. After a while, we began our descent from the waterfall. The thought of the return journey filled us with a sense of weariness, but surprisingly, the way down seemed much faster than the climb up. We walked steadily, and before long, we reached the bottom. Perhaps our familiarity with the path made the descent easier.
We continued our journey to Singha Park Chiang Rai to attend the balloon festival. However, since the festival was scheduled for the late afternoon, we decided to take a farm tour first. The farm tour, which costs 50 baht per person, provides visitors with a tram pass and a coupon for either a Singha drinking water or a sports drink. The tram makes stops at four different points within the farm, but we only got off at one stop: the giraffe and zebra feeding area. The sun was quite strong, and we planned to stay for the balloon festival in the late afternoon, so we decided to save taking photos of the surroundings for the cooler evening hours.
Before the hot air balloon event began in the evening, we had some time to spare, so we drove to the White Temple. The drive from Singha Park to the White Temple was approximately 6 kilometers and took about 8 minutes.
The White Temple, designed and constructed by Chalermchai Kositpipat, is renowned for its intricately decorated white Ubosot.
During the balloon festival, we returned to capture the balloon launch, which was held for the second year by Singha Park from February 14th to 18th. We started attending the event on the first day, February 14th, where over 32 balloons from 14 countries competed. Balloons were released daily between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Later in the evening, around 7:30 PM, there was a "Balloon Night Glow" light and sound show, along with food and beverage vendors, and concerts by various artists. We captured some of the event's atmosphere to share with you in case you're interested in attending next year. Oh! There is no admission fee. It's free to attend.
That concludes our review. Thank you for following along. If there are any errors in the information, we apologize.
