Delighted to visit Huen Khuan Khao.

Greetings, friends! Today, I'd like to share a hidden gem I stumbled upon during my recent trip to Doi Inthanon in search of the elusive Wild Himalayan Cherry blossoms at Khun Wang. While scrolling through Facebook, I came across a captivating photo of this accommodation, which sparked my curiosity. I reached out to the owner, and to my delight, a room was available on the day I was descending from the mountain. This serendipitous discovery led me to this wonderful place, and I'm thrilled to share my experience with you all.

Khwankhao House

Nestled amidst the serene rice fields, this quaint homestay offers a tranquil escape for city dwellers seeking a taste of simple living and the slow life. The rustic charm of the accommodation is sure to captivate those who appreciate a laid-back atmosphere. The journey to this hidden gem is effortless, with a convenient location just a short drive from Chiang Mai city. Follow Highway 108 towards Chom Thong, and upon reaching the U-turn from the main road, take the entrance to Ban Mai San Teng village. A brief 1-kilometer drive will lead you to the doorstep of Heuan Khuan Khao homestay.

Upon arrival, guests can check in at this point, where the owner of Heuan Khuan Khao will be waiting to welcome them.

There are two houses in total.

The small house, named "Heuan Khwan," has a bedroom on the upper floor and a raised platform on the lower floor with hammocks and chairs for relaxing.

The small house can accommodate up to 4 people, or more if you don't mind squeezing in, without any additional charges. This is according to the owner, Ms. Tai.

The main building, called "Heuan Luang Yai," has two floors. The upper floor can accommodate four people, while the lower floor can accommodate four people. Additional beds can be added.

Let's take a look at the atmosphere of a small house, or Khwan's house.

The room has two beds and can accommodate four people. It is equipped with fans and air conditioning. However, there is no television. We spoke with the owner, Mr. Tai, who told us that he had actually purchased a television but decided not to install it. He wanted guests to experience the true beauty of nature without distractions. We agree with Mr. Tai that a television is unnecessary.

The rooms have balconies with views of the rice fields.

The accommodation is a homestay, and the cleanliness of the rooms, bedding, pillows, and blankets is excellent. The owner's attention to detail is evident in the cleanliness and fragrance of the rooms. The owner personally manages everything at the homestay.

The small house features an open-air bathroom, allowing you to enjoy a refreshing shower while immersing yourself in the natural surroundings.

The ground floor of the "Heuan Khwan" features bamboo hammocks for lounging or napping, offering a relaxing escape amidst the scenic green rice fields.

Let's take a look at the large house, called "Heuan Luang Yai," where we stayed.

This two-story house is perfect for large families or groups. You can rent the entire house or just one floor, as each floor has its own bathroom.

The upstairs bedroom has two beds that can accommodate four people. It is equipped with air conditioning, fans, and an ensuite bathroom. The room is spacious and could comfortably accommodate more than four people with additional bedding, which the owner would provide free of charge.

From the balcony of the large house, one can see a panoramic view of the rice fields.

The bathroom in this pavilion is not open-air, but it offers a scenic view.

Let's take a look at the ground floor of the large house. This is where we stayed. The interior of the ground floor rooms is similar to the upper floor, with two beds, air conditioning, a fan, and an en-suite bathroom. The ground floor bathroom is also similar to the one upstairs.

The ground floor offers a relaxing lounge area with a daybed extending from the house. Additionally, a fish pond and adorable Beagle puppies, recently adopted by the owner and full of playful energy, await guests. Visitors are encouraged to interact with "Cap Moo," the puppies, for an unforgettable experience.

This is our favorite spot.

Enjoy the aerial view. This accommodation amidst the rice fields offers a different kind of beauty.

Let's cut to dinner. Tonight is special because our dining table is different from usual. We are sitting on the floor, eating food arranged on a khantoke, while enjoying the view of the rice fields and the sunset behind the mountains. This meal is already delicious, but with this view, it makes our meal even more special.

Guests who wish to enjoy this type of meal must inform the owner at least one day in advance so that they can prepare it. This set meal is not included in the accommodation price. Accommodation only includes free breakfast. Dinner must be paid for separately, but the price is not expensive. The large set costs 320 baht. One set includes fried fish, sai aua sausage, grilled pork neck, fried pork, northern Thai chili dip or northern Thai tomato dip (choose one), sticky rice, and a large bag of pork crackling. We only serve a small portion on the plate because it will fill the khantoke. If you would like to try the northern Thai mustard green curry pictured, you can also inform the owner, and they will be happy to prepare it for you.

After dinner, we sat and enjoyed the view in front of our accommodation. As dusk approached, the air gradually grew colder. We visited in early February, when the temperature was around 18-19 degrees Celsius. Oh, I forgot to mention that after dinner in the evening, Khwan, who is Tai's girlfriend, brought us some roasted sweet potatoes. They were hot and sweet, and very delicious.

The night was filled with the harmonious sounds of frogs, toads, and crickets, creating a natural lullaby. This is why we say that television is unnecessary here, as it would drown out the natural beauty of the surroundings. Here are some morning scenes from our accommodation: the warm glow of the rising sun, the gentle mist, and the lush green rice fields that soothe the eyes.

The breakfast here is minced pork congee with shiitake mushrooms, and I must say it was delicious. I had 2-3 bowls!

After breakfast, we took some more photos and fed the fish. We also played with the mischievous piglet, Cap, before packing up and checking out to continue our journey. Our stay here felt like visiting relatives, as the owner was incredibly kind and welcoming. We were impressed by everything and would definitely return if we had the chance.

The view on the way to the tamarind coffee shop

We stopped by Khao Makham Coffee, a café and guesthouse located in Chom Thong district. The café is situated on a large tamarind tree, offering a unique experience for coffee lovers. Patrons can enjoy their beverages while taking in the scenic views from above. The café serves delicious and affordable drinks, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike.

The review is now complete. Thank you for following along. If there are any errors, please forgive me. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I am happy to answer all comments.
