TRIP 2 DAYS 1 NIGHT

"Let's explore Khong Chiam - Ubon Ratchathani"

Welcome! For this trip, we had the opportunity to visit Ubon Ratchathani Province.

Ubon Ratchathani is a large province in the lower northeastern region of Thailand. Getting there is very easy:

  • By bus: The journey takes about 8 hours and costs between 521 and 694 baht.
  • By plane: Flights are also affordable, depending on the booking time.

Let's go to Ubon Ratchathani!

We chose to travel by plane with Thai Lion Air, booking tickets through traveloka.com. We got a good deal (516 baht for the outbound flight and 689 baht for the return flight).

For this trip, we used a private car for all our transportation. Since we have a friend in Ubon Ratchathani, they drove us around, which helped us save on travel expenses.

The journey to Ubon Ratchathani International Airport takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The first place is Wat Nong Bua,

which Ubon people like to call Wat Phra That Nong Bua. It is a temple of the Thammayut sect, located in Mueang Ubon Ratchathani district, not far from the airport. Inside the temple, there is interesting architecture, namely "Phra That Chedi Si Maha Phothi".

Getting to Wat Nong Bua

From Thung Si Muang, drive along Uparat Road and Chayangkun Road, passing the Highway Police Station.

Turn left at the intersection onto Thammachat Road. Continue straight ahead and you will find Wat Nong Bua.

There is parking available outside the temple.

Tourists can visit to pay respect and make merit for good luck.

" Please be quiet and do not make loud noises. "

Location 2: Kaeng Sapueo, Ubon Ratchathani

Located in Tambon Phibun, Amphoe Phibun Mangsahan, Ubon Ratchathani Province.

Approximately 45 kilometers from Ubon Ratchathani city center via Highway 217.

The word "Sapueo" is derived from the word "Sampueo" or "Sampueat" in the Suay language, meaning python or boa constrictor.

Kaeng Sapueo is a rapids with large and small rocks, creating a complex landscape. When the water flows through the rocks, it creates white foam and a constant sound. The best time to visit Kaeng Sapueo is during the dry season, around January-May.

Because the water level will be low, revealing the beautiful rock formations. During the rainy season, the water level rises, making the rapids invisible.

"Currently, the water level is low, so everyone is invited to visit."

Bird and fish food are available for purchase. You are welcome to feed the animals.

The area by the rapids is suitable for swimming. The atmosphere is very good, and the water is cool and refreshing.

However, if children are playing in the water, adults must be close by to prevent the risk of drowning.

Location 3: Pha Taem National Park

Pha Taem National Park is located in Huai Phai Subdistrict, Khong Chiam District, Si Mueang Mai District, and Pho Sai District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. It borders the Lao People's Democratic Republic, with the Mekong River serving as the boundary line. The distance from Khong Chiam to Pha Taem is 19 kilometers.

The fourth location is Wat Tham Khuha Sawan in Khong Jiam District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.

Inside the temple, there is Tham Khuha Sawan Cave, located behind the temple for everyone to explore.

Tham Khuha Sawan Cave is a cave that is easy to walk to and not deep.

Inside the cave, there are many Buddha statues in the attitude of subduing Mara.

Inside the cave is the location of the glass coffin containing the uncorrupted body of Luang Pu Khamning Chulmani.

He was the founder of this temple and a renowned Vipassana meditation master.
