Kanchanaburi

A 2-day, 1-night backpacking trip around Kanchanaburi city on a budget of 550 baht.

(Accommodation with shared bathroom + breakfast/dinner barbecue + full sightseeing + karaoke + bicycles + 24-hour tea and coffee + welcome drink butterfly pea juice + wifi) This price really exists in the world (excluding transportation to Kanchanaburi)

After "Backpacking in the Drizzle, Recording Memories in Sangkhlaburi",

We are visiting here, Mueang Kanchanaburi District. Where should we go?

  • Golden Dragon Cave Temple: A Mysterious Cave and Floating Nun

(Our friends and I voted this place as the most UNSEEN because the cave here is the most adventurous. We had to crawl, squeeze, climb, and even creep. A young monk was our guide, which was amazing.)

*Phahonphonphayuhasena Bridge + Thai Paper Mill "The Mystery of Thai Banknotes during World War II"

  • Wat Tai Chai Chumphon Chana Songkhram and the Deva Boat of Wat Tai
  • Antique shop, Chhuk Dock, Motorcycle ferry pier

* City Gate and City Pillar Shrine, offering a ceremony to pay respects to King Jessadabodindra, King Nangklao, and the guardian deities of the city.

* A giant rain tree, over 100 years old, with a circumference of 10 people.

  • Tiger Cave Temple, the Crystal Pagoda, and the veneration of the Buddha's relics.

* Wat Tham Khao Noi, a century-old Chinese temple on a mountain peak, featuring a seven-story Chinese pavilion pagoda.

* Wat Ban Tham, a unique and beautiful Thai temple, is steeped in the legend of Khun Phaen Yang Kumarn and the haunting tale of the spirit of Mae Bua Klii.

* Huangjue Cemetery (within walking distance)

  • Chuk Don Beach

* 180 years of walking street... here "Pak Phraek"

* JJ Kanchanaburi (within walking distance, plenty of food, cheap and good)

While some of these destinations are located far from the city center, they are still included in the travel itinerary of *Uncle Yot, who is over 70 years old.

A small guesthouse with a homely atmosphere, located in the heart of Kanchanaburi. It may not be luxurious, but it offers a comfortable and authentic experience.

This place is perfect for backpackers who love adventure. It's full of foreigners and the price is very reasonable. I highly recommend it to my friends who are planning a trip.

Uncle Yos will be both our guide and driver in his old van, but the air conditioning is nice and cool, and he will take us on a tour throughout the trip.

(However, when we went, Uncle Yot was busy taking a foreigner on a tour of Erawan, so he asked a retired professor friend to take us instead. He was just as amazing.)

Note: Uncle Yos is a legendary figure. You can read more about him on the website. It's very interesting!

Additional Information: Uncle Yos's tour program will be divided into 2 routes. If you have any other preferences, you can discuss them with him.

For solo backpackers, it is mandatory to find companions for the trip. A minimum of 3 people is required.

The following is a rapid-fire series of images, all captured using a Xiaomi Yi camera (review: "Xiaomi" sounds similar to "shivering," haha). We'll begin with this one…

A Large Gong

This phrase refers to a large gong, a traditional musical instrument used in various Southeast Asian cultures, including Thailand. Gongs are typically made of bronze and produce a deep, resonant sound when struck. They are often used in ceremonial and religious contexts, as well as in traditional music ensembles.

The specific type of large gong referred to in this phrase may vary depending on the context. Some possibilities include:

  • Khong wong yai: A large, suspended gong used in Thai classical music.
  • Mong: A large gong used in Burmese and Mon music.
  • Gong ageng: A large gong used in Javanese gamelan music.

Without further context, it is impossible to determine the exact type of large gong being referred to. However, the phrase clearly indicates a large, resonant gong used in a Southeast Asian musical tradition.

What impressed you here?

Upon arriving at Kanchanaburi Transportation Center, unsure of how to reach our accommodation, we contacted Uncle Yot. Initially, we anticipated directions and instructions to travel independently.

"No way... Uncle said to wait 10 minutes, he'll pick us up soon. So exciting!" >\\<

The second point is that after returning from the trip, we arrived at the accommodation in the afternoon. Normally, we would have checked out at noon, but we took the 7 pm bus back.

What should we do? It's too hot. So my friend asked the aunt (Uncle Yot's wife) if we could stay longer. How much extra would the aunt charge?

"The auntie said, 'You can stay here, no extra charge.' (I almost cried)"

The package includes visits to ten different locations, with accommodation in air-conditioned rooms, shared bathrooms, meals/barbecue, karaoke, wifi, butterfly pea flower water, and bicycles.

With an excellent guide like Uncle Yot and a budget of 550 baht per person, this was a truly UNSEEN experience.

I bow to you.

Note: It is important to reiterate that this is a guesthouse, not a luxurious palace. The accommodation may be old and worn, and the bicycles require inflation. If you are accustomed to luxury and require aesthetically pleasing rooms with beautiful views, we do not recommend this establishment. However, if you are on a tight budget and prioritize value for money, as we do, we wholeheartedly endorse it. Go for it!

Traveling to the islander's home

From the transportation hub, take a motorbike taxi (samlor) to the Chevrolet showroom. The house of the island people will be directly opposite.

Located approximately 300 meters from the River Kwai Hotel, on the left-hand side before the end of the alley, near the entrance to Baan Nua ("Paak Pa Raek"). The alley is known as "Soi Saeng Chuto 47" or "Baan Nua Road".

Thank you for following. Uncle Yot's schedule is going to be very busy from now on. ^^
