Hello, I haven't been reviewing for a while, but I've been traveling all the time ^^
Following the previous threads that received Pantip picks, today I would like to share another good story.
I may not write as detailed as the previous threads, and there may not be much content. I apologize for that. Please enjoy the pictures.
The trip took place on March 8-9, 2016 (2 days 1 night). Our main destination was the barley field in Samoeng District, Chiang Mai Province. We then visited nearby attractions in the city center based on the available time. No specific itinerary was set.
First day in Mae Taeng District.
- Rice Research Center, Sa-moeng
- Naph-Phu Pha Strawberry Farm
- Strawberry Farm, Wongwan
- Sleep B2 Resort, Mueang District
Day two: Mae Rim District, Mueang District
- Dara Phirom Forest Monastery
-Mon Cham
- Royal Project Nong Hoi
- Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden
- The atmosphere of the school
Round-trip flight from Don Mueang to Chiang Mai with AirAsia during the year-end promotion. My colleague arrived in Chiang Mai earlier and waited for me. We arrived in Chiang Mai around 1 pm and rented a Toyota Vios with full insurance from Budget. We booked the car 6 days in advance and it was available. However, during the winter season or long holidays, it is recommended to book well in advance as cars are often fully booked. We picked up my colleague in the city center and headed to Samoeng via Mae Rim. (If you are in the old city, you can exit through Chang Phuak Gate. This route leads to many places, including Mae Rim, Samoeng, Mae Taeng, Pai, Mae Hong Son, Galyani Vadhana, Chiang Dao, Fang, and Doi Ang Khang, to name a few that I have visited.)
We took the route to Mae Rim, not far from the city center. We stopped for lunch at "Khao Soi Mae Manee" restaurant, which is on the right-hand side. You can see the Esso gas station (on the left) and then make a U-turn into Soi Chotana 24. The taste is good. In the past, it was very delicious and didn't need any additional seasoning. But lately, they have made the taste more neutral so that customers can season it themselves, as some people prefer different levels of sweetness and saltiness. But it's still delicious. The price is not expensive either. I used to eat it for 25 baht per bowl, now it's 35 baht. There are both pork and beef, and many other options. The restaurant is closed every Buddhist holy day.
Khao Soi Maemani
14:00 p.m. After a satisfying lunch, we embarked on our first destination, the "Sa-maeng Rice Research Center," located approximately 40 kilometers from the city center. Following the main Mae Rim road, we turned according to the signposts. We passed various tourist attractions in Mae Rim district, including the entrance to Mon Cham. The road became more winding and steeper as we approached Sa-maeng, but it was manageable. Please drive with caution, as some sections of the Mae Rim road are undergoing road surface improvements.
After about an hour's drive, we arrived at our destination, the Sa-maeng Rice Research Center. There is no entrance fee, but visitors must register with the staff at the entrance. The rice fields have a green and yellow front, and the back has both harvested fields and some golden yellow fields ready for harvest. The green fields were very sunny when we arrived, so it is recommended to take pictures in the evening light for the best results. We visited the back fields and took some pictures, but it was very hot, so we went to visit a strawberry farm first. Then, before sunset, we returned to the rice fields.
Rice Research Center, Sa-moeng
3:30 PM. We left the Rice Research Center to visit the strawberry farm first, and then came back again.
Strawberry Farm in Wong Wan
This passage describes a visit to a strawberry farm in Wong Wan, Thailand. The farm offers food and accommodation services. The author purchased strawberries, iced tea, took some photos, and rested for a while. The strawberries were 150 baht per kilogram and tasted sweet. The author notes that the farm appeared dry during their visit and did not capture any scenic photos, focusing instead on photos of their companion. The area also boasts charming cafes, though the author did not visit any during their trip.

A Delightful Escape to Nappha-Phupha Strawberry Farm
Nestled near the Saemeng Rice Research Center, Nappha-Phupha Strawberry Farm offers a charming escape amidst picturesque landscapes. The farm's inviting atmosphere surpasses the experience at the research center, making it a preferred destination for a refreshing break.
Indulge in the farm's freshly-blended strawberry smoothies and savor the sweetness of hand-picked strawberries, available at an incredibly affordable price of 100 baht per kilogram. The farm's strawberries boast superior freshness, sweetness, and affordability compared to other sources.
Capture the beauty of the farm's numerous photogenic corners, creating lasting memories of your visit. For those seeking an extended stay, the farm offers comfortable accommodation options.
Explore the adjacent barley field, currently adorned in a vibrant golden hue. Its smaller size allows for a leisurely stroll amidst the captivating scenery.
Visiting the farm during this season presents several advantages. The strawberries are significantly cheaper, and the absence of large crowds ensures a tranquil experience.
Key Highlights:
- Affordable and Delicious Strawberries: Enjoy freshly-blended smoothies and hand-picked strawberries at an unbeatable price.
- Picturesque Setting: Capture stunning photos amidst the farm's charming landscapes.
- Accommodation Options: Extend your stay with comfortable on-site accommodation.
- Golden Barley Field: Witness the beauty of the adjacent barley field, currently in full bloom.
- Reduced Crowds and Prices: Benefit from lower prices and a more peaceful experience during this season.
Nappha-Phupha Strawberry Farm offers a delightful escape for those seeking a refreshing and affordable experience amidst nature's beauty.
Nongpho Mountain Farm
There are designated paths for taking photos. If you prefer close-up shots, Na-Phu-Pha Farm is a better option than the Rice Research Center.
The atmosphere is great, I like it. At first, we thought we would wait to capture the evening light at the barley field at Rai Naphaphupha, but we haven't taken any pictures of the front of the Sa-maeng Rice Research Center yet. It's better to go back and do it properly.
At around five o'clock, we returned to capture the last light of the day at the "Sa-moeng Rice Research Center."
Rice Research Center, Sa-moeng
There are many angles to shoot from, but we only took photos from one angle as we didn't walk much. The grass pricked our pants. ^^
When taking photos, be careful not to step on the rice fields and cause damage. Please keep the area clean and do not litter. There are no staff to remind you, but please help to maintain and protect the area.
The sun has set. We will stay in the city tonight. We haven't planned where to go tomorrow, but we will probably go somewhere near the city center. We didn't book any accommodation, so we searched for it online. We were looking for a place that was affordable and had good reviews. While driving to a potential hotel, we passed by B2 Resort Hotel, which had a sign advertising a price of 399 baht. We decided to stop and inquire about the rooms. The rooms were nice and the price was cheaper than we expected, so we decided to stay there. We paid 399 baht for a twin bed room without breakfast, but we could purchase it separately.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay and felt it was excellent value for money. The room was well-equipped with a refrigerator, TV, sink, wardrobe, towels, soap, shampoo, shower cap, and a balcony with seating. Free Wi-Fi, a swimming pool, and other amenities were also available. The only drawback is its location on the outskirts of the city, which is quite far from the city center. It is suitable for those with their own transportation, as it is convenient for accessing both the city center and Mae Rim. However, if you are staying alone, it can be a bit scary, as the large wardrobe door mirror is located right next to the bed. Nevertheless, there were no issues, and the air conditioning kept me cool and comfortable throughout the night.
Day two
Today, I need to catch a 6 pm flight. I'm looking for a relaxing, nearby trip that fits the time frame, as I checked out of the hotel at 6 am. The morning air is pleasantly cool. I'm heading towards the same route as before, Mae Rim district. I stopped to buy grilled pork and sai oua for breakfast. After turning left onto the Mae Rim-Samoeng road, about 2-3 km, you will see the sign for Wat Pa Dara Phirom on the left-hand side. Drive along the sign for about 1-2 km, and you will reach the temple.
"Wat Pa Dara Phirom" is a royal temple with lush greenery. I arrived at the temple around 6:30 AM and felt a sense of peace and tranquility.
The ordination hall is currently undergoing renovations.
After visiting the temple, we continued our journey to Mon Cham. Along the way, we passed the Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden, which we will visit later. It was already late morning when we arrived at Mon Cham, so it was quite hot. Although the area was somewhat dry, there were still beautiful flowers and fewer crowds, making for a pleasant view.
Mon Cham
Descending from Mon Cham, we stopped by to see the vegetable plots in the Nong Hoi Royal Project.
After that, we went back to visit the "Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden". We arrived at around 10:00 am. The entrance fee for a car with a driver is 100 baht, and for passengers, it is 40 baht per person. This ticket can also be used as a pass for the Canopy walkway.
Canopy Walkway: A Sky-High Adventure in Thailand
The canopy walkway, a breathtaking aerial path suspended above the lush treetops, boasts the title of Thailand's longest skywalk, stretching an impressive 400 meters. Towering over 20 meters high, this remarkable structure, primarily constructed from steel with sections of transparent glass offering unparalleled views of the forest floor below, ensures both strength and an exhilarating experience.

"Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden"
The scenic viewpoint is currently closed for renovations.
We then drove to see the greenhouse complex, which houses a wide variety of plant species.
Around 1 pm, we returned to the city to buy souvenirs: crispy pork, northern Thai sausage, chili paste, and strawberries at Warorot Market. We then found a restaurant to relax and enjoy a meal and dessert before returning the car and boarding our flight without rushing.

Total trip expenses are as follows:
Round-trip flight for 1 person: 800 baht
Car rental from 13:00 (March 8th) to 17:00 (March 9th) for 1 day at 850 Baht.
The cost of fuel is 400 baht.
Accommodation fee: 399 Baht
Other food expenses are approximately 1000 baht.
Approximately 1300 baht per person (excluding airfare).
Overall, I was impressed. I love traveling in the north of Thailand, no matter what season it is. The northern people are kind and friendly. I received help whenever I needed it. During this trip, I stopped to buy strawberries in Mae Rim. The owner of the garden saw that my tire was very flat and wasn't sure if it was leaking. He took me to check the tire and fill it with air at his shop, even though it was closed that day. He didn't charge me for the service. He was very kind, and I am very grateful for his kindness. I have traveled to many provinces in the north and have only met kind people.
