Solo Trip to Koh Phayam
This is a solo trip after a long period of friends going on trips in pairs or odd numbers. Finally, it was time for a solo adventure!
Koh Phayam has been on my list for a while, and after seeing a review on Read.me, I decided this was the place to go. Let's dive into the travel details:
- Travel to Ranong: Took the BKS bus from Bangkok to Ranong via Kapur at 8:30 PM. The ticket cost around 400 baht.
- To the pier: From the Ranong bus terminal, I took a shared taxi to the pier. When asked about the fare, the driver said to pay whatever I felt was fair, so I gave him 20 baht.
- Ferry: The ferry ticket cost 200 baht, and the slow ferry took 2 hours to reach the island. It departed at 10:00 AM.
There is no water at this pier, so they took us to another pier.
After that, we waited for the boat to leave. The boat departed at 10:00 AM. Two hours of sitting on the boat with a numb bum. 555 So relaxing, I even fell asleep.
And then we arrived at Koh Phayam. We went straight to rent a motorbike, a Fino for 150 baht. We filled up with 2 bottles of gasoline for 70 baht (35 baht per bottle), for a total of 220 baht. Then we went to find accommodation. There were quite a few options, with prices starting from 350 baht and up. I apologize, but I forgot the name of the place we stayed. We stayed in a simple house, which we really liked, for 350 baht per night.
We absolutely loved this style of accommodation. The owner asked if we could stay, and we said yes. He then charged us only 350 baht, which was great. We were alone, and he even invited us to eat with him. He was so kind! We don't like luxury; we prefer nature. We love listening to the sounds of nature. It was so cool that we didn't even need a fan. In fact, it was even cold at night. We washed our faces, relaxed for a bit, and then continued exploring the island. We started by going to the front of the island to get our bearings. We found a path to the temple on Koh Phayam, but we didn't go there yet. Then it started to rain, so we stopped to eat duck noodles for 50 baht. The dish had three pieces of duck, two of which were bones.
This map is based on the port.
Enjoy the view at the restaurant @Auntie Nuch Duck Noodle, but they also serve rice dishes.
Such as vegetable fried rice, mixed vegetable stir-fry, and vegetable red curry fried rice for 60 baht.
Menus with meat start at 80 baht.
Plain water is 15 baht, canned soft drinks are 30 baht, blended fruit juice is 60 baht, and unblended is 50 baht.
Embark on a journey to Blue Sky Resort. Navigating this island is a breeze, with clear signage guiding your way. Keep a watchful eye, as some sections feature steep inclines. If you're not a seasoned motorbike rider, these stretches might pose a challenge. For instance, the path leading to Hin Ta Lu features a steep and winding section that's sure to get your adrenaline pumping.
To save time, we left Blue Sky Resort and headed to Ao Khao Kwai or Hin Talu, the highlight of Koh Phayam.
Hin Daeng, Ao Khao Kwai
These rocks are incredibly sharp. I brushed against one and didn't feel any pain or burning, but when I looked again, I was bleeding profusely.
"It's so hot! The sun is really strong today."
Ao Yai
It was so dark, I decided to go home. We didn't go out to socialize that day because I was really sleepy. I fell asleep while sorting photos. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling cold and looked for a blanket. I didn't turn on the fan.
Morning of the 2nd day
After visiting Koh Phayam Temple, we returned the motorbike and waited for the 2 pm ferry. We left our accommodation around 10 or 11 am.
2:00 PM. The boat trip ended. Actually, there were also Ao Hin Khao and Ao Kwang Pi, but the path was quite steep and consisted of loose red soil. The wet red soil was slippery, and I didn't want to risk it because I was alone. If I fell or had an accident, no one would be there to help. So I didn't go. Anyway, please be careful when you travel.
