Taiwan Food Tour with a Foodie Gal: Episode 2
The food-loving gibbon is still in Taipei today.
Today, we will take you to eat Taiwanese hotpot like a college student...at this age.
We are in front of Chinese Culture University or CCU, a prestigious private university located on Yangmingshan Mountain. The atmosphere is very good, and I must say that there is a very beautiful viewpoint of Taipei 101 here (I will bring you pictures later).
The shabu-shabu restaurant's menu displays prices clearly, with all items priced below 150 TWD.
Each table in the restaurant is equipped with its own gas stove.
Upon entering the restaurant, each table will have a basket for storing the belongings of the diners. Please refrain from throwing garbage in the basket.
The culture here is that each table is responsible for their own belongings and will not place their items on other tables, even if the table is empty.
The menu has English, but the order form with details will be in Chinese.
The broths are diverse, including mala, seafood, mushroom, kimchi, etc.
The shabu-shabu here comes in a set, so you just need to turn on the gas stove and add eggs as you like. We ordered the mala seafood soup, which costs 120 TWD.
I also saw lamb and beef, among other options. The variety is amazing.
After selecting your desired menu, proceed to the counter for payment. While waiting for your shabu-shabu to be served, you can help yourself to the unlimited rice. The restaurant offers two types of soup for your rice: a tofu-based soup and a sweet pork-flavored soup. I opted for both.
Unlimited drinking water, tea, milk tea with less sugar, green tea with less sugar, and plain water are available.
Dipping sauce is always available for refills.
The shabu-shabu arrived, and the gas stove was turned on to wait for it to boil. Diners can add seasonings or crack eggs into the pot according to their preferences.
We added rice twice. The rice here is similar to Japanese rice.
I liked that there were toppings to pour over the rice.
The spiciness of the mala was good. As for the dipping sauce, I don't know how the locals prepare it, so I just seasoned it according to my own preferences.
🍵 The refillable milk tea is also delicious.
Actually, this shop also includes ice cream in the refill, but I didn't take a picture because it's the same as the ice cream in Thailand. There are 4 flavors: mint, vanilla, chocolate, and chocolate chip.
⭐️
This meal is rated 4 stars for its value. If you have the opportunity to visit a university in Taipei, don't forget to try this student-style shabu-shabu. ^^
