Songkhla, the city of the southern lake, offers a wealth of culinary delights and fascinating culture. Let's explore Songkhla today, where the weather is bright and clear in April.
Chalatat Beach is a public park and recreational area for the people of Songkhla, built along a line of pine trees.
The flowers are in full bloom.
The BP Samila Beach Hotel & Resort is conveniently located on the beach in Songkhla. I chose this hotel because I wanted to be able to swim in the sea. The sea view room costs 1,430 baht.
Offers a view of Samila Beach.
The hotel's swimming pool has a pleasant atmosphere.
The area surrounding the hotel boasts a beautiful beachfront.
The beach at Hat Samila has rocky outcrops extending into the sea, with fine white sand often referred to as 'glass sand'. Surrounded by lush pine forests, it offers stunning views of the nearby islands of Ko Nu and Ko Maeo.
Visiting Masmila is like visiting the heart of Thailand.
The iconic symbol of Samila Beach is the Golden Mermaid statue, a must-visit photo spot for tourists. It is believed that rubbing the mermaid's breasts will ensure your return to Samila Beach.
Travel to Koh Yo to eat.
Following our visit to Samila Beach, we embarked on a journey to **Ko Yo**, the only island in Songkhla Lake. This island is renowned for its white sea bass farms in cages within the lake. We had the opportunity to take a long-tail boat ride and admire the serene atmosphere of the lake.
For dinner, I recommend Lung Jiw Seafood, a small restaurant on Koh Yo behind Baan Nam Kiang Din. This restaurant comes highly recommended by locals in Hat Yai. The food is decent, and the atmosphere is pleasant.
Visit the iconic bronze sculpture of a water-spouting naga, a symbol of Songkhla province. This freestanding sculpture, visible from all sides, is made of green-patinated bronze. Its head is located in the Song Talay Park, while its tail extends to the Laem Son On promontory, where it spouts water into the Songkhla Lake.
On the morning of the 2nd, we prepared to go on a trip to climb Mount Tang Kuan.
Khao Thawng Khuan: A Historical Landmark in Songkhla
Khao Thawng Khuan, a small hill located in Songkhla city near Samila Beach, stands approximately 105 meters above sea level. Visitors without a car can reach the hill by tuk-tuk or taxi.
The summit of Khao Thawng Khuan houses significant historical sites, including the Phra Chedi Luang, the pavilion where King Rama IV resided, and a lighthouse. An elevator ride to the top costs 30 baht for adults and 20 baht for children. The site is open Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturday-Sunday and public holidays from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. For inquiries, please call 074-316330.
The view from above is beautiful.
The Luang Pagoda, located atop Khao Takuwan, is a significant historical landmark. The bell-shaped brick and stucco pagoda is believed to be an ancient structure, though its exact origins remain unclear.
Bells offered to the Phra That Luang are collected and melted down to create a larger bell, which is then offered to the Phra That Luang.
The lighthouse is a significant structure on Koh Tang Kuan, built during the reign of King Chulalongkorn.
Let's continue to Khao Kohong.
The translated text is:
The Khao Khao Hong is located in the Hat Yai Public Park area. The height of the mountain is not much, only about 371 meters. You can drive up or take the cable car. Hatyai Cable Car is the first cable car in Thailand. The price is as follows: - Adults 100 - Children 50 - Uniformed students, students, government officials 50 - Foreigners 200 baht.
The view is beautiful.
We have reached the top of the mountain and encountered the "Erawan Elephant".
Shrine of Maha Phrom of Hat Yai Municipality
The Phra Phutthamongkhon Maha Ratcha, a standing Buddha statue in the "pacifying the relatives" pose, is situated atop the first hill. It was named by His Majesty the King in 2542 BE (2000 CE). Cast in brass, the statue stands 19.9 meters tall and faces the city of Hat Yai. It is considered one of the most revered Buddha statues in Hat Yai by the local population.
At the base of the Buddha statue, there are wax figures of many revered monks, including Luang Ta Maha Bua, Luang Pho Sot, Somdet Phutthachan (Toh), Luang Pu Thuat, and Luang Pho Buddhadasa, for us to pay respects to.
Let's go find something to eat. Today, we're going to a restaurant on the mountain, Khao Khon Hong. The atmosphere is great.
The chili paste is delicious.
After descending from the mountain, we continued to Wat Mahathat Mangkalaram. This temple, formerly known as Wat Hat Yai, is located on Phetkasem Road near the Khlong U Taphao Bridge.
This temple houses a large reclining Buddha statue, measuring 35 meters in length, 15 meters in height, and 10 meters in width. Known as Phra Phuttha Hatthamongkhon, it is said to be the third largest in the world and is a popular pilgrimage site for both Thai and international tourists.
Worshiping Buddha Beneath the Reclining Buddha
Due to the immense size of the Phra Buddha Maha Thattamongkol, the elevated base allows for the creation of a prayer room beneath it. This room houses numerous Buddha statues and serves as a repository for cremated remains. Open to the public daily, the entrance is located at the rear base of the statue.
Before heading back, stop by Kim Yong Market, the largest shopping area in Hat Yai. This two-story indoor market offers a wide variety of goods.
Pistachios, a favorite of many, are available for purchase. If you haven't tried them yet, give them a try! They are delicious. ^^ A kilogram costs around 400 baht, and you can also buy them by the hectogram.
Hello Songkhla, new sky next year, see you again ^^ Please follow the small travel page on Facebook. It collects tourist attractions that I have been to. Page: Go to Fun Trips. Click Go to Fun Trip
