Why Khao Kho?

Why Khao Kho? Perhaps because we've seen so many people sharing their trips to Khao Kho. It's truly a beautiful place, a city of mist.

Ah, I forgot to mention! I absolutely love the sea of mist. It's so beautiful, isn't it? But just looking at pictures won't do it justice, right?

Another thing, have you ever heard this sentence? "Sleeping in Khao Kho for 1 day, your life will be extended by 1 year." I was just wondering how sleeping there could extend your life by a whole year.

.

.

The desire to chase after the mist and find answers to extend one's lifespan is the reason for our trip to Khao Kho.

Plan your trip

We must be frugal and save money because we don't have any income yet. We're saving our allowance money to travel.

Traveling luxuriously is probably out of the question. We spent a few days researching "How to get there, where to get on, where to get off, are there any shared taxis?"

What are the attractions and where is the best place to stay? Finally, I came across a review post that really resonated with me because it answered almost all of my questions.

Offering affordable accommodation options, with rooms starting from just 500 baht per night. Additionally, motorbike rentals are available for your convenience.

Accommodation

We stayed at Ban Rai Khao Kho (Homestay), owned by Uncle Nanth. There is only one room available. Uncle Nanth rents motorbikes only to guests for 300 baht per day without a deposit. Other places require a 5,000 baht deposit, which is not suitable for budget travelers like us. The homestay is just 5 minutes from the viewpoint and 10 km from the bus stop.

Travel to

We traveled by bus, purchasing tickets from Phitsanulok Yanยนต์. The bus departs from Mo Chit to Khao Kho five times a day: 10:30, 13:00, 19:00, 20:30, and 22:00. The one-way ticket costs 335 baht, and the round-trip ticket costs 670 baht.

We will choose the 22:00 round. We will arrive at the parking spot around 4:30 AM. Please inform the staff that you want to get off at the last stop in Tung Samo Subdistrict in front of 7-Eleven.

Following your arrival, the uncle will be waiting to pick you up at the designated drop-off point, as public transportation is not available there. The uncle charges 100 baht for this service, which is reasonable considering the distance from the drop-off point.

The accommodation is located 10 km away. If you walk, you will definitely get tired legs. Or you can try hitchhiking, as the people of Phetchabun are very friendly.

Before checking in, the kind uncle drove us to the viewpoint to see the sea of mist. However, the mist was not very dense yet, so we went to the accommodation to store our belongings first. Since we arrived very early, the previous guests had not yet checked out. The uncle set up a tent for us in case we wanted to relax and take a nap. "But how could we sleep when we came all the way here to travel, right?" Besides, "the sea of mist is waiting for us, we have to hurry!"

We planned to take the rented motorbike out for a ride, but unfortunately, the previous guests had an accident and the mirrors fell off on both sides. However, we were still able to ride it. The previous guests were probably even more unlucky than us.

Where are the places to visit in Khao Kho?

As soon as we got our motorcycles, we set out to chase the fog. We were determined to see the sunrise with the sea of fog at Wat Kong Niam. When we arrived, we were a little disappointed because the sea of fog was not as thick as we had hoped. However, the view was still beautiful. We sat and took photos, enjoying the view until we were satisfied.

We were riding our motorbike back to our accommodation when we stumbled upon a breathtaking view. It was near Wat Kong Niam, and while the scenery resembled the temple's, the perspective offered a unique charm. Each vista possessed its own distinct beauty, wouldn't you agree?

Before reaching the entrance of our accommodation, we passed another scenic spot for viewing the sea of mist, the one where the uncle took us earlier. At first, there wasn't much mist, but now there was a lot (although not as much as I've seen on the web). It was so beautiful, white and fluffy, and looked very soft. We spent a long time taking pictures here before returning to our accommodation.

Around 11 am, we finally arrived at our accommodation after making several stops along the way. Uncle Nan asked us about our travel plans and if we were interested in joining him. He and the other guy (the one who fell off the bike) were planning to spend the night at Phu Thap Berk, stopping at various points along the way, and then heading to Phu Hin Rong Kla. This sounded very interesting, as we had originally planned to travel by motorbike, but given the condition of the vehicle, we wouldn't have made it. We readily agreed to join Uncle Nan.

In summary, we did not sleep in the room we booked that night. Instead, we went camping at Phu Thap Boek. We also visited the following places: Pino Latte Coffee Shop, Wat Pha Sorn Kaew, Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park, and several other stops along the way. We had to pay a little extra for this, splitting the cost of transportation and other expenses with the other person. However, it was worth it because we didn't have to drive ourselves.

No need to worry, and no need to wonder if the motorcycle will get us there. 5555

We had lunch at a restaurant near Wat Pha Sorn Kaew. The food was okay, with rice with curry and noodles available. The view here is amazing!

We set up our tent here for the night. At first, the weather was very clear, but around 5:30 PM, the fog surrounded us. It was a different kind of fun. 5555

Instead of waking up to a thick, dense sea of fog, we found ourselves completely enveloped in it.

Uncle Nan then sent us off on a bus back to Bangkok.

Although this trip didn't go according to plan (but hey! none of them ever do, hahaha!),

The sea of mist was not as dense as depicted in the online photos (but I was still lucky enough to catch a glimpse of it).

This trip also brought us good friendships from Uncle Nunt and Aunty, and we made a new friend (the person who fell from the car).

Experienced a light mist, not too heavy.

Immersed in the mist (while sleeping at Phu Thap Boek), I encountered a delightful atmosphere, breathtaking views, and delicious food.

Trip Response

The answer we were looking for has been found. The reason why "sleeping in Khao Kho for 1 day is equivalent to living 1 year longer" is because the air here is incredibly fresh. You can breathe deeply without worrying about pollution.

Therefore, we have aged one year now.
