Once, we had the opportunity to stay at a place that everyone said was like the Maldives of Thailand. Was it as beautiful as everyone said? You have to go and see for yourself. As for us, it was a little paradise surrounded by nature in a slow-life style.

Kanchanaburi: A Historical and Scenic Getaway

Kanchanaburi, a province steeped in history and blessed with stunning natural beauty, offers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. Its proximity to Bangkok makes it an ideal weekend destination, attracting visitors seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. While a single night may not suffice to explore its diverse attractions, this brief glimpse into Kanchanaburi's charm will leave you yearning for more.

Before entering Kanchanaburi, it is customary to seek blessings from the sacred. Wat Tham Sua, renowned for its stunning beauty, houses the majestic statue of Luang Pho Chinnarat, bestowing blessings. The golden statue, standing at an impressive 9 wa and 9 inches, was constructed in 1973. The "Phra Chedi Kaew Maha Prasat," a magnificent octagonal orange pagoda, stands tall and majestic with nine levels. A spiral staircase leads to the top, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Each level features murals depicting Buddhist teachings and Thai monarchs. The uppermost level houses sacred relics brought from India. The panoramic views from the pagoda's windows are a sight to behold, encompassing the Mae Klong River, mountains, rice fields, and the adjacent Wat Tham Khao Noi.

We then continued on to Kanchanaburi city, where we visited the iconic Bridge over the River Kwai. This bridge, built during World War II as part of the Death Railway, is a symbol of the city's history. It has witnessed countless historical events and is now considered a symbol of peace. Visiting this bridge is a must-do when in Kanchanaburi.

We took a short walk from the bridge to visit the World War II Museum, which had a small entrance fee. Inside, we were overwhelmed by the wealth of historical knowledge and stories. As Thais, it is important for us to be aware of this history.

Afterward, grab a bite to eat nearby before continuing your journey to the scenic Sri Nakarin Dam. The Sri Nakarin Dam, also known as the Chao Na Dam, is the first multipurpose dam of the Mae Klong River Basin Development Project. Built on the Khwae Yai River, it serves to improve the lives of the people and the development of the country. Today, it has become a major tourist destination and recreation area in Kanchanaburi Province.
