The rainy season is upon us, and the lush greenery is everywhere.

Some may say that the rainy season is not ideal for travel, but it offers unique experiences.

The rain brings a bounty of natural beauty, cool and refreshing air, and affordable accommodation due to the low season.

So, pack your bags and plan your trip.


5 days and 4 nights in Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son during the rainy season.


Day 1

We departed from Bangkok on an early morning flight with AirAsia. For this trip, we chose to travel to Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son (Rak Thai Village and Pang Ung) by rental car, using Highway 108 (1,864 curves). Along this route, we were able to visit Ob Luang National Park and Bo Kaew Pine Forest (***if you come during the blooming season of Tung Bua Tong, it will be even more beautiful). We passed through Mae Sariang District, but due to limited time, we only stopped at two places because we were afraid of arriving at Rak Thai Village too late. On the first night, we stayed at Lee Wine Rak Thai Resort. It rained that night, and the power went out until morning. The signal tower also went out with the power, so we were able to soak up the atmosphere until morning.

We have arrived at Rak Thai Village.

Here, a pool of water surrounds the village. When it rains, the air is cool and comfortable, and mist floats above the water's surface.

The reflection of the village on the water's surface is absolutely stunning.

Today, we will be staying at the Le Vigne Rak Thai Resort.

This area offers individual houses for groups of two or more, as well as family-sized accommodations.

After a long and winding journey, we stopped at the resort's restaurant to refuel.

We should mention that it was raining heavily when we arrived, causing a power outage throughout the village.

However, we had a comfortable night's sleep thanks to the lanterns provided by the resort.

Even without electricity, we were able to relax and enjoy ourselves.


Day 2

Breakfast includes deep-fried buns with condensed milk, coffee, or rice porridge, accompanied by stunning views.

Today, we planned to stay at Pang Ung. However, the water level at Pang Ung is not as high as it is at the end of the year, so the atmosphere is not as beautiful. We decided to go to Pai to breathe fresh air instead. On the way to Pai, we will pass through the Kim Lom viewpoint and the Ja Bo viewpoint... Tonight, we chose to stay at the Namu Hotel, which is located in the walking street alley. There are plenty of food options here. There are quite a few foreign tourists here, even though it's a weekday, and many accommodations are fully booked.

At the exit of the village, there is a coffee shop. I would like to have another cup of coffee in the morning.

Leaving the village, we stopped by the Sutong Bridge.

When we arrived, the villagers had not yet started planting rice.

If we had come during that time, the area beside the bridge would have been lush with green rice fields.

Or, if it were the time when the rice was in ear, it would have been a beautiful golden yellow.

On the way to Pai, we will pass by the Kiew Lom viewpoint.

Another point of interest is the scenic viewpoint at Ban Ja Bo, which has a noodle shop. However, we arrived too late and the noodles were sold out.

Enjoy the view instead.

We have arrived at the Pai Walking Street.

Today, we did not book in advance, so we walked in to find accommodation on the walking street. There are many options, both along the river and in the various alleys.

You can choose according to your preference.

After settling into our accommodation, we headed to the Pai Walking Street to explore the local food scene.

The rain then fell, allowing us to gather our strength for the next day's challenges.


Day 3



Upon waking up, there are shops selling congee and noodles near the accommodation. The aroma is very tempting.

After a satisfying meal, we are ready to go.

Let's head to Chiang Mai! Departing from Pai, take Highway 1095. Along the way, you can stop by the Karen village and the historic Tha Pai Bridge.

Our destination for today is The Giant Chiangmai Thailand.

After leaving the shop, I saw a sign indicating the way to Mae Kampong Village, only 3 kilometers away, so I decided to stop by and enjoy the atmosphere. I visited Uncle Pud and Aunt Pung's house.

The ambiance makes me want to spend a night here.

As we exit, we will pass by the Royal Project Development Center at Baan Tin Tok.

On the way back, it was just in time for dinner, so we continued to eat at Mina Restaurant. This trip was all about eating!

It looks very delicious.

For our stay in Chiang Mai, we opted for The Core Hotel, Chiangmai, a brand-new hotel conveniently located near Chiang Mai University.

Before going to bed, I decided to end the day with a hot soup at the Kad Luang market in front of Chiang Mai University. (I told you I'm a big eater!)

Day 4

This morning, I stopped by Cafe Nature for a coffee before heading up to Mon Cham to breathe in the fresh air. (I must say, the weather at Mon Cham in the afternoon was fantastic!)

Before going up to Mon Cham, I wanted to eat Khao Soi 5555. I'm eating it again!

Come and try the delicious Khao Soi Nimmanha.

On the way up to Mon Cham, I stopped by Baan Mon Tawan, a guesthouse with a fantastic atmosphere.

Since we're already here, let's take a ride on the Jungle Coaster.

Coins have been exchanged successfully.

The atmosphere at Laem Jam is fantastic. It seems like it's raining in the surrounding areas, but not here, so the air is cool and refreshing.

Even though it was 3 or 4 pm, the sun was gentle and the breeze was pleasant.

The verbena flowers are blooming in a beautiful shade of purple.


After descending from Mon Cham, we enjoyed a sweet treat of choux cream at Dong Madame Shop.

Do you think the choux cream looks delicious? It's all gone!

The decor is very cute.

Next, we had dinner at Hotel Yayee, a rooftop restaurant offering stunning views of Doi Suthep and landing airplanes. The cool evening breeze and the setting sun created a relaxing ambiance. After dinner, we couldn't resist indulging in some dessert, even though we had just had some earlier.

Enjoy a warm glass of milk from Nomsangtao, a popular spot near Chiang Mai University, before bed.

Passing by "Ror Yu Tring Ni" restaurant, I really wanted to eat more, but my stomach couldn't take it anymore. Can I wait here?


Day 5

Time flies! Today is my free day, so I'm going to explore the Nimmanhaemin area for some delicious food.

My first stop is Ristr8to.

Next, we visited Tong Tem Toh, a restaurant that's always packed in the evenings. They serve authentic northern Thai cuisine that will leave you feeling satisfied and full.

Let's take a break and pay our respects at Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan before continuing.

In the afternoon, we continued our culinary journey with a refreshing bowl of butterfly pea flower noodles at [Restaurant Name]. To conclude our trip on a sweet note, we indulged in the highly popular desserts at [Restaurant Name].

The car rental period is coming to an end, it's time to return to Bangkok.

Time flies so fast.

Everything looks so delicious.

It rained every day in Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son during my trip, but it wasn't a problem at all. I was able to soak up the cool air and see beautiful fog. There weren't too many people, and the accommodations were offering attractive promotions. Try it out.
