Today, we take you on a scenic tour along the Ping River, enjoying a meal with a beautiful view of the pagoda at the Maraya Hotel and Resort. From participating in an activity with Mango Guide, we received a meal voucher. The view caught our eye with its beautiful corners along the Ping River, which we had never seen before. We bring you these pictures to share, so if anyone likes a relaxed atmosphere with a natural view that is easy on the eyes, as if stepping back in time, you can follow in our footsteps. It's the end of June, and the sky is still bright. ^^
Maraya Hotel & Resort is a small hotel with approximately 18 rooms. It boasts a tranquil atmosphere and is situated on the banks of the Ping River, opposite the ancient city of Wiang Kum Kam, the former capital of the Lanna Kingdom. The hotel's design concept, "Culture & Art," seamlessly blends Lanna heritage with modern aesthetics.
Surroundings
The path to the restaurant by the Ping River at the resort
The landscaping is beautiful.
The restaurant Pagada at the small hotel is very peaceful and has a great atmosphere.
A diverse menu of both savory and sweet dishes.
I ordered two dishes today, each costing between 250-280 baht. The taste was decent.
The atmosphere by the Ping River
A pagoda is visible on the opposite bank.
Tranquil and serene, as if stepping back in time.
The resort offers a pier for guests to enjoy. During the Loy Krathong festival, visitors can admire the illuminated pagoda and float their krathongs on the Ping River, creating a unique and nostalgic atmosphere.
The scenery is beautiful.
Intrigued by the sight of a beautiful pagoda, we decided to take a closer look. We drove along the Ping River, crossed the bridge to the opposite bank, and ventured closer for a better view.
Found it!
**Wat Chedi Liam**, formerly known as Wat Ku Kham, is located near Ko Klang Road in Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province. The name "Ku" refers to a stupa, while "Kham" means gold. King Mangrai, the first king of the Lanna Kingdom, ordered the construction of the temple in 1288 CE. The temple's most significant historical artifact is the five-tiered, octagonal-shaped main stupa, which resembles the Ku Kut stupa at Wat Phra That Hariphunchai in Lamphun Province. This style of stupa is characteristic of the early Lanna period and is influenced by the Hariphunchai Kingdom.
The holy stupa enshrines the hair relics and the right jawbone of the Buddha.
This temple serves as a gateway to Wiang Kum Kam, as it is located right next to the ancient city. You will see horse-drawn carriages offering rides from Wiang Kum Kam passing by. If you visit the temple and have some time to spare, you can head over to Wiang Kum Kam for a closer look. Horse-drawn carriages and trams are available for your convenience. A horse-drawn carriage ride costs 300 baht and takes you on a 4-5 kilometer loop around the city. Each carriage can accommodate up to 3 people and comes with a guide.
