I have visited the island many times. I heard that there is an island with sharks near Haad Sai Daeng, some call it Shark Bay, some call it Shark Island. If you have the chance to visit Koh Tao, don't forget to go snorkeling or diving in the deep water around here. You will see real sharks swimming calmly. It's exciting! (They are not harmful to humans.)
Travel by airplane
Upon arrival at Surat Thani Airport, you can take a combination of car and boat to reach your destination.
After that, we took a bus to Don Sak Pier (the view of the pier in the early morning).
Alternatively, consider purchasing a bus package from Bangkok (departing around 9 or 10 PM from Khao San Road) operated by Lomprayah.
The bus will arrive directly at the pier, very early in the morning, around 4 or 5 am.
Foreigners stroll and enjoy the scenery, some even taking multiple naps.
Arrived in the morning.
The sun has risen.
The charming dogs by the pier are a delight to play with while you wait. Alternatively, you can take a leisurely stroll or freshen up in the complimentary shower room before your journey.
Around 7-8 am, we boarded the boat.
Seasick, I went to the bathroom to vomit (like us).
The bathroom was exceptionally clean, but I needed to stay inside for a while due to my discomfort.
Panoramic view of Koh Tao
Abundant resorts, ranging from hundreds to thousands, cater to your every desire.
Is there a medical ship or something like an emergency ship available? (I do not intend to use the service.)
Upon arrival at the island, you can rent a motorbike or car, depending on your preference. However, we used the resort's services for everything. Upon arrival at the island, the resort's car picked us up, and we arrived at the sandy beach.
Take a break to rest.
Admire the flowers leisurely.
Couples stay together, singles may find a partner (many foreigners).
I've never been to the Maldives, but I'm satisfied with this.
Crystal-clear water with shades of blue and green, offering clear views of the coral reefs and diverse marine life.
This photo was taken at a resort. I will review it later because the resort is amazing.
There is fog, mountains, trees, rocks, sandy beaches, etc.
The hidden crevices in the rock face are also worth seeing.
From a bird's-eye view, this is the mainland on the island, the closest point to Shark Island.
Shark Island, a renowned diving destination, is home to a population of friendly sharks (known for their non-aggressive nature towards humans; no documented attacks have been reported).
A small shark island, not far from the mainland on the island.
The closest beach to Shark Island, as measured by sight, is only 300-600 meters away.
The descent was terrifying. It was the first time I refused to rent a motorbike and didn't even consider driving myself.
Secluded and uncrowded spots are available for you to choose from.
Snorkeling equipment ready
The ship is ready.
We are even more ready.
Then he paddled out.
The water is very clear.
If you are afraid of getting wet or sunburned, you can opt to stay on the boat and enjoy the beauty of the underwater world at your own pace.
Take a break and lean back when you're tired.
An island that seems far away, but is within reach, photographed from a boat that is rowing, just a short distance from the beach.
Caution is advised when entering the shallow waters of the sea, as there are numerous corals and rocks.
The island of Koh Tao offers a variety of delicious restaurants.
Our favorite restaurant is a simple shack. The food is delicious, and we always come back for more.
I cannot recall the name of the shop. It is located near a gas station, close to the port.
Authentic Southern Thai cuisine, renowned for its bold flavors, attracts both local and international palates seeking a genuine culinary experience.
The expression of someone who is enjoying their food.
Nightlife options include relaxing by the sea.
Drinkers and dancers would surely enjoy themselves.
Waking up to a view like this.
This is likely Koh Phangan, not too far away (but definitely not within swimming distance).
Is it a steep slope? Consider it yourself. That island you see in the distance is Shark Island.
We apologize for not being able to provide underwater photos this time, as our camera was not ready. However, we can assure you that we did encounter sharks. The number of sharks you encounter depends on your luck and timing. We saw three sharks, one swimming alone and two swimming together. While it can be a bit frightening, as we mentioned, they are not likely to harm you. Overall, it was an exciting experience. The seabed is still beautiful and offers a great opportunity for both deep and shallow diving.
