Khao Ngu Stone Park: A Historical and Scenic Destination

Khao Ngu Stone Park, located in Ko Plab Phla Subdistrict, Mueang District, is a unique park encompassing both natural and historical features. Situated approximately 8 kilometers from Ratchaburi city center, the park was once a significant source of limestone and crushed stone during the early Rattanakosin period. Renowned for its high-quality limestone, the area was actively mined until the concession was revoked, leaving behind an abandoned quarry in a state of disrepair.

Recognizing the potential of Khao Ngu, Ratchaburi province transformed the former quarry into a public park and tourist destination, incorporating archaeological elements. A colossal stone Buddha image, created by laser etching onto the rock face, stands as a testament to the park's dedication to preserving its historical significance.

Within Khao Ngu Stone Park, several ancient cave sites offer a glimpse into the region's rich past. These caves, nestled amidst the mountainous terrain, include the Rishi Cave, the Fa To Cave, and the Chinese-Cham Cave. Each cave houses numerous carved Buddha statues, dating back to the Dvaravati period, adorning the cave walls. While the caves are situated in close proximity, reaching them requires a challenging climb up steep stairs. The surrounding area is also home to a large population of monkeys.
