How is it possible to spend 4 days and 3 nights living like...
SLOW LIFE
In Luang Prabang, Lao PDR, with only 6 thousand baht, you can be rich in Laos with almost a million kip (555)
After the trip, there is still change left. It's very worthwhile. Plus, there is internet to check in and show off to your friends.
How to get there, follow the instructions below.
First of all, without further ado, the first step is to find a cheap flight ticket. So how much should it be?
We chose to travel with Airasia, which has daily flights to Luang Prabang. We chose to depart from
DMK 2:30 PM > LPQ 4:00 PM
This time is perfect. It's not too dark yet. When you arrive in Luang Prabang, you can still go sightseeing.
For today, let's watch a video of the atmosphere in Luang Prabang for 4 days and 3 nights first.

Upon arrival at the Lao immigration, fill out the necessary forms and prepare to board your flight.
Within minutes, you'll arrive in Laos. After clearing Lao immigration, you'll encounter various booths selling internet SIM cards.
Based on our experience, Laotelcom's 4G package is sufficient, providing 1GB of data per day. The speed is remarkably fast, exceeding that of our home country.
A SIM card costs 280 Thai baht (approximately $9 USD).
Next, head to the Banque pour le Commerce Extérieur Lao (BCEL) and exchange 4,000 Thai baht. You'll receive approximately 965,000 Lao kip, making you an instant millionaire!
At the exit, you'll find a counter selling van tickets to various destinations. The fare is 25,000 Lao kip per person.
The van we took was no ordinary one. It was a Hyundai H-1, and it was incredibly comfortable. The air conditioning was cool, and the music was great.
As we drove, we saw many houses along the way.
We finally arrived at our accommodation, Villa Laodeum in Luang Prabang, Laos (on the banks of the Khan River). It was amazing and incredibly comfortable.
After settling in, we wasted no time. While the sun was still shining, we went out to explore the city.
The first stop is to pay homage to the Phra That Phu Si. There is an entrance fee of 20,000 kip, which seems to be the local custom.
All entrance fees and other charges are at this price. The view is breathtaking.
As the sky began to darken, I descended to the bustling night market, also known as the walking street. It's open every day, and the stalls are overflowing with goods.
After walking for a while, you need to grab some food. I recommend walking to the end of the walking street towards the roundabout. The shop is on the right-hand side and is quite small.
The food is delicious. This dish is Khao Soi Lao, which is different from the northern version. I asked, and they said it's quite different. The price is reasonable at 15,000 kip.
After finishing lunch, we wasted no time in searching for dessert. We walked past the Khao Soi restaurant and came across Joma Cafe. There are two branches of this cafe, and this one is located opposite a luxurious hotel. The atmosphere was so pleasant, it felt like we were in another country. Before heading back, we decided to treat ourselves to a glass of mint lemonade for 19,000 kip, leaving us feeling light and refreshed before returning to our room.
Nighttime atmosphere at the accommodation
Here are some photos of the accommodation's atmosphere at night.
Day 1 expenses summary
- Flight ticket: 2,920 Thai baht
- Cash on hand: 4,000 Thai baht, 965,000 kip

- Remaining balance: 818,500 kip
Expenses breakdown:
- Transportation: 25,000 kip

Day 2 update
I apologize for the delay in updating the thread. I was busy with some errands.
We started Day 2 by visiting Wat Chiang Khong, which boasts beautiful architecture unlike anything we have back home. The entrance fee is 20,000 kip.
Luang Prabang offers a variety of attractions for visitors to explore, including temples, traditional houses, and the local people.
After that, we went to eat at this restaurant, a popular spot among Thai people. It was packed with Thai customers!
The restaurant, "Pracha Niyom," offers affordable and delicious food with a view of the Mekong River.
The breakfast spread includes porridge, breakfast dishes, coffee, iced tea, and baguettes (a must-try local dish).
For this meal, we had rice porridge, deep-fried dough sticks, and coffee, which cost 10,500 kip.
Full and energized, we continued exploring the city for a while before catching a ride to Kuang Si Falls!
While strolling, we encountered numerous tuk-tuk drivers offering various tours.
A word of advice: when visiting Kuang Si Falls, opt for a tuk-tuk as the winding roads pose safety concerns for other vehicles.
We met this driver who initially offered a fixed price for the entire vehicle. We inquired about the cost of sharing the ride with others.
The total cost for a round trip was 50,000 kip per person. The scenery was breathtaking, especially since it was raining when we arrived.
Our video shows the ticket purchase process starting at 2:50.
Upon arrival, heavy rain began to fall, forcing us to wait for it to subside before proceeding. The dirt path was extremely slippery.
As you walk, be careful as the ground is slippery after the rain. There are also bears inside the park.
Most of them are water buffalo that were caught in the forest there. Hehe.
The sentence is empty.
This is the first waterfall we encountered. There are many more levels to climb, and the higher you go, the more beautiful it gets.
As you walk, you will find places to rest and eat. There are also food stalls along the way. Keep going!
We reached the highlight level, which was stunning and had a bridge nearby for taking photos. However, it's important to note that only certain levels are safe for swimming. Please avoid entering restricted areas for your safety.
Here's a helpful tip for the descent: after exiting the upper waterfall level, take the right path, which is a paved road and easier to navigate than the uphill climb.
We arrived back in the evening, having started our journey around 10:00 AM. By 4:00 PM, we were understandably hungry.
We decided to take a stroll and wait for the evening to explore the bustling night market, where countless food stalls awaited us.
We didn't hesitate to eat at this restaurant, which is almost at the end of the alley. Next to it is a vegetarian buffet restaurant, but that's not our style. We prefer something a little more fattening, haha.
The damage for this meal was only 20,000 kip, which is incredibly delicious. The chicken breast is firm and the papaya salad is spicy.
After that, we went to buy a can of Lao beer each to take back to the room, which only cost 8,000 kip per can.
Another day has come to an end, and it was well worth it! Today, I went to Kuang Si Falls, which was absolutely amazing. The journey was quite challenging, but it was all worth it in the end.
When I returned to my room, I was surprised to find that the towels had been changed and the bed had been made. This is a daily occurrence here.
Let's continue with the expense summary.
Expenses:
- Entrance fee to Wat Chiang Khong: 20,000 kip
- Breakfast at Prachaniyom: 10,500 kip
- Transportation to Kuang Si Falls: 50,000 kip
- Beer (1 can): 8,000 kip
Total expenses for the day: 88,500 kip. From the initial amount of 818,500 kip, I now have 730,000 kip remaining.
I'll provide an update on Day 3 tomorrow. Thank you for your patience.
Day 3 has arrived!
This morning, we woke up to beautiful weather after a light rain shower last night. Today, we plan to rent bicycles and explore the city.
Bicycle rental shops are easy to find in Luang Prabang. We happened to find a shop near a place we wanted to eat, so we each rented a bike.
There is no deposit required for rentals, but you need to leave your passport. The rental fee is 20,000 kip per bike for the whole day, and you can return it anytime before 9 pm.
We were given a bike lock, and we were reminded to lock our bikes every time we park. Remember, lock your bike every time!
You must return the shirt within the borrowing period. Mountain bike shirts are also available, but they are a bit more expensive, around 50,000 kip.
As soon as I got the car, I immediately cycled to the same shop, the People's Shop, a popular shop among Thai people. 5555
This morning, I had a bowl of Lao Khao Soi and a glass of iced milk tea for 21,500 kip.
After breakfast, I felt energized and decided to cycle around the city. Today, I didn't have much planned, so I just relaxed and enjoyed the ride.
I cycled leisurely around the city, taking breaks when I got tired. I will share some photos I took during my ride later.
This is the local police station.
We continued cycling until noon, when we stopped for lunch. We had lunch at Joma Cafe, a branch located by the Mekong River. I can't remember the name of the dish I ordered, haha. It cost 35,000 kip and came with free water. After lunch, we continued cycling.
"As I cycled along, I stumbled upon a relaxing spot in a riverside garden. There was even a path leading down to the water's edge, perfect for taking photos."
This is a paragraph with text centered.
We cycled until it started to get dark, and most of the stalls at the night market were about to close, so we decided to return the bikes first.
We went to find something to eat at the night market. Why didn't we cycle there?
- Because there was no place to park our bikes. Although there were some bike locks provided, it was still quite risky. It was better to return the bikes.
Before returning to our room, we stopped for a snack of "khanom krok" (Thai coconut pancakes) for 5,000 kip. For dinner, we decided to have a small party in our room.
There was a dining table in front of our room with a view of the river, so we decided to buy some snacks and beer to enjoy the view.
We ordered a grilled chicken skewer for 20,000 kip, which came with 6-7 pieces, and two cans of beer each for 8,000 kip per can.
We then took our food and drinks back to our room to enjoy.
This is not our accommodation. On the way back, I passed by a beautiful place and took a picture for you to see.
And another day of our trip has passed. Today, we were quite tired from our cycling trip around the city, but it was fun. There were a lot of cars, especially when we went outside the old city.
If you are not a strong cyclist, I recommend that you only cycle around the old city. There are a lot of cars outside. Let's summarize the expenses.
Expenses:
- Khao Soi + Iced Tea 21,500
- Bicycle rental 20,000
- Lunch at Joma 35,000
- Kanom Krok 5,000
- Grilled Chicken 20,000
- Beer 2 cans 16,000
Total 117,500 kip. Subtracting from the second day 730,000 kip, we have 612,500 kip left. Easy.
I'm waiting for the last day, the 4th day. I'll write it for you right away. Hehe.
The last day, the 4th day, I don't want to go back.
Today we have to wake up extra early because the monks here start their alms round very early. If you wake up at 6 am, it's too late.
We have to wake up at 5:30 am, wash our face, brush our teeth, take a shower, and be ready by 5:30 am. Then we walk out to the main road.
I recommend walking to the 4-way intersection in front of the police station. There will be a lot of tourists here and many villagers selling alms-giving sets.
A small set is enough, it costs 10,000 kip. After buying, you can sit and wait. The monks here are very fast at chanting.
How fast they are, you can see from this clip. From minute 6:50 onwards.
After making merit by offering food to monks, we went to find something to eat. This morning, we wanted something light, so we decided to have some local food, "Baguette," at the shop next to Pracha Niyom Restaurant. We ordered and ate it at the shop, along with a glass of iced tea.
A large baguette for 15,000 kip, cut in half for easy eating. The taste is a bit spicy with sauce.
Followed by the taste of fermented pork sausage, fresh pork sausage, and vegetables in order, but I prefer it without cucumber.
I think the cucumber flavor is a bit too strong. Some shops here also add cheese, so try different shops!
After eating, my stomach is full and my face is starting to sag because I woke up early. I think I'll take a nap before checking out.
On the way, I stopped for a high-angle shot.
After waking up, we continued packing our belongings and prepared to check out.
This time, we booked our accommodation for a very affordable price of 1,043,000 kip. Therefore, after splitting the cost, it only amounted to 521,500 kip per person.
It's unbelievable that this price was for a 3-night stay, and it even included free drinks in the room. Additionally, the soap and shampoo provided were of high quality. It was an amazing deal!
If you're curious about the room, you can check out this video:
After settling the damages, I left my luggage at the hotel and walked back to the main road.
Turning right, I came across a Vietnamese noodle shop frequented by Korean and Japanese customers. The food here is known for its exceptional taste.
The food was truly delicious. I highly recommend trying it if you have the chance. The cost was 12,000 kip for the food and 6,500 kip for a bottle of soda. I was very full afterwards.
After that, we returned to our hotel to collect our luggage. We stood in front of the hotel, where public transportation passes by frequently throughout the day.
This time, we decided to return using a "skylab." Many of you may not be familiar with its appearance. It looks like this:
The car arrived quickly and we negotiated a price of 30,000 baht per person to take us from our accommodation to the airport. I don't want to leave!
Everything here seems to be slow, except for our money, which is disappearing quickly.
This is the first time I've ever ridden in a skylab. I remember seeing these types of vehicles when I was returning to Konsarn, Chaiyaphum, but they weren't called that.
Another surprising thing is that I was very confused why the Luang Prabang accent sounded so familiar. It's because it sounds like the accent my grandmother used to speak to me.
So I asked my father why the accents were so similar. It turns out that the Tai Konsarn people, or Lao Luang Prabang people, have a Luang Prabang accent that is similar to the one in the Lao People's Democratic Republic. In the past, they migrated from there. Oh, I see.
Now, let's summarize the expenses for the last day.
Expenses:
- Alms-giving set: 10,000 kip
- Baguette + iced tea: 21,500 kip
- Vietnamese noodle soup: 12,000 kip
- Soft drink: 5,000 kip
- Accommodation: 521,500 kip
- Skylab: 30,000 kip
Total: 600,000 kip. Subtracting the 612,500 kip from the third day, we have 12,500 kip left. I can easily return to Thailand with this.
But when I calculated it again, it's only 51 baht in Thai currency. I won't exchange it back. I'll just bring the banknotes back as souvenirs. 5555
This trip was so much fun. I don't want to go back. This place is so peaceful and not as chaotic as our home. I don't feel stressed at all when I'm here.
I highly recommend this place to anyone who is tired and wants to recharge their batteries. Luang Prabang, a World Heritage City.
