First time trying to catch bamboo tube somen for Japanese summer at Kibune, Kyoto.
lemonade tripvisor in Kibune, Kyoto
"See the camera flashing in the picture? I was about to take a picture but had to catch the somen first." I believe that anyone who goes there, both hands will not be different from the picture, right? Because if you let go of the camera, do you think you will get a picture to write a review? Hehe And if you let go of the chopsticks? The 1,300 yen you paid will be wasted. You can't eat it, so it's crazy to let it go.
Today's journey was a leisurely one, with no need to rush. We slept in and woke up feeling refreshed.
"Even though we didn't wake up early, we still need to leave before our highlight store closes," she said.
"Hmm... I hope it doesn't rain, otherwise it would be more annoying than being late," she added with a laugh.
Kiyomizu-dera Temple is a great place to spend a full day exploring.
I will add more places to visit in the future, but in the meantime, you can ask me for recommendations or check out my Facebook page at lemonade tripvisor.
If you only have half a day, you can also visit other places in the area.
This time, I mainly visited the following places:
"Hirobun Somen Restaurant, Nishiki Market, and one of the famous Warabimochi shops in the Gion district."
Travel Directions
My friend and I chose to take the train from Kyoto Station to Kokusai Kaikan Station (国際会館).
<Remember, the Karasuma Line (烏丸線) is not a JR line, so don't get on the wrong train.>
Once you arrive, simply exit through Gate 3, turn left, and walk a short distance. You will see bus stop number 3 on your left. Wait for bus number 52.
Look for the bottom line that says "Kurama via Kibuneguchi".
The bus will arrive shortly. Please board and get off at Kibuneguchi bus stop.
It takes approximately 20 minutes to reach the stop, which is 16 stops away.
Press the button on this sign after hearing the announcement "Kibunekuchi, Kibunekuchi" before the driver reaches the sign.

< Appearance of the bus stop on the way back>
We are approaching Kibune.
After arriving at the Kibuneguchi bus stop, everyone who came by bus will walk straight, turn left, and board another bus to Kibune.
Kibuneguchi is just the entrance. The word "guchi" in Japanese means "mouth".
We haven't even finished turning the corner when we see the bus stop sign.
Take bus number 33.
The bus travels between Kibune and Kibuneguchi.
The front of the bus will look like this.
To return, board the same bus from where you were dropped off.
(Fare: Adults 160 yen, Children 80 yen, Kyoto One-day Pass not accepted)
From the bus stop in Kibune, there are many things to see and do on the way to Hirobun restaurant.
There are restaurants serving Japanese set meals in a beautiful atmosphere, cafes, and Kibune Shrine, which is a highlight along with the somen restaurants.
After walking for a while, let's stop by the Kibune Shrine.
Path to the shrine
After making a wish, it's time to take a chance with the floating fortune sticks.
If it doesn't get wet, the message won't appear. How cool is that?
Buy it and float it.
Put it in, don't worry about the paper getting wet.
As soon as you put it in, the message starts to appear.
For those who can't translate Japanese, don't worry that if you spend 200 yen on a fortune-telling and can't translate it.
The fortune-telling slip has a QR Code that you can scan and translate into English. It's so cool, I love it.
If you come during the snowfall, it's beautiful in a different way. You'll see the lanterns covered in snow, but you'll miss the chance to try the Som Tum.
Without delay, after we finished praying and playing the floating siem si, my friends and I went straight to the restaurant.
Tickets can be purchased at the counter in front of the store.
Price: 1300 yen
The store will be open from May 1st to the end of September every year.
Please note that the store is closed during the winter season.
For more information, please visit the store's website: http://hirobun.co.jp/menu/index.html
The store also has another zone for those who want to eat set meals.
If you want to change from noodles to a special set meal, please let us know.
Upon purchase, you will receive a stylish fan-shaped queue card with your queue number written on it, along with an explanatory sheet.
The message is in the center.
Please be patient if you have to wait a long time for your turn.
It is very cute.
Please take a queue number and wait downstairs.
The staff will have a designated waiting area at the back.
You can wait for your number to be called and enjoy your meal.
This is our set/
The seats will be close to the edge of the field like in the picture.
Let's take a look at the equipment they have prepared for us.
The equipment that is absolutely essential is chopsticks.
The sauce used to eat with the somen noodles.
On the left is wasabi, on the right is a pink cup containing warabi mochi topped with green tea powder.
The atmosphere is like sitting in a row.
The fish are biting, so cast your lines and reel them in!
Eating Technique
Pick up the noodles and flick them to remove excess water before dipping them in the sauce.
Otherwise, the broth will become too diluted and the last bite of pink noodles will be bland.
We'll hold the pose with chopsticks for a moment. Please take one photo.
Long, long noodles, so satisfying.
I've lost count of how many times I've used my chopsticks to grab them. Before finishing with the pink noodles, the last bite of the meal.
The person at the beginning of the line has finished, so the person at the end can get ready to grab some noodles.
The first dish has arrived! Get ready, the last bite is a must-try!
Will we make it in time? Will we make it in time? Will we make it in time?
Oops, we were so excited that we forgot our dish is actually the second one. Haha!
Let's quickly take a picture before our dish arrives.
This time, it's clear that the portion is smaller than usual.
And the edges of our ramen bowl are full of splashed water. Haha!
The pink noodles (even though the sign says "colored red")
This color signals that this will be the last bite.
And it's the last bite that tastes different from all the previous bites.
Want to know what it's like? You have to try it yourself! Enjoy it until the very last bite.

After eating, let's go for a walk and grab some savory snacks at the market before ending with dessert in Gion. Let's take a walk before the shops close at 6pm at Nishiki Market.
We chose to get off at Karasuma Station (烏丸).
Nishiki Market: A Culinary Paradise in Kyoto
Nishiki Market, a vibrant and bustling market in the heart of Kyoto, is a feast for the senses. Its most striking feature is the vibrant ceiling, adorned with a kaleidoscope of red, yellow, and green, reminiscent of traffic lights. This eye-catching design draws visitors in, inviting them to explore the market's culinary delights.
With over 100 shops lining its narrow streets, Nishiki Market offers a smorgasbord of culinary experiences. From fresh seafood and seasonal produce to traditional Japanese sweets and street food, there's something to tantalize every taste bud. The market's vibrant atmosphere is infectious, with locals and tourists alike stopping to sample the offerings and soak up the lively ambiance.
Whether you're a seasoned foodie or simply looking for a unique cultural experience, Nishiki Market is a must-visit destination in Kyoto. Be prepared to lose yourself in the labyrinthine alleyways, savoring the flavors and sights of this culinary paradise.
I came across a shop selling shrimp, and it really caught my eye. I decided to buy one to try.
Ready to eat, sprinkled with salt.
Here it is! Ready to be photographed and eaten.
Although it's a bit salty, the shrimp are plump, fresh, crispy, and delicious. Excellent.

gion tokuya Restaurant
gion tokuya Restaurant, a famous restaurant known for its warabi mochi in the Gion district, a geisha district.
I've finally arrived at the place I've been waiting for. This restaurant is said by Japanese people to have warabi mochi that is unlike any other.
This restaurant has now opened a branch in Tokyo, which is not too far away. I recommend getting off at Harajuku Station.
There is also clear ice.
Refreshing! ^^
Menu from the shop.
The dessert was still missing something, so I walked back to find more food.
In the alley next to the Kamo River, couples were sitting together.
After walking down the alley for a while, my friend and I decided to enter Hello Dolly for some light drinks.
We relaxed with some soft jazz music before returning to work the next day.
Ending the night with a view from Kyoto Tower.
Time to catch the bus back, or I'll miss it. : )
This trip, I would like to thank my friends for all the reading and sharing.
