Our journey on July 28-29, 2017, took us through Khao Kho, where we aimed to visit every scenic viewpoint before reaching Phu Thap Boek.

Begin...

We embarked on our journey from Rangsit at 3:00 AM, aiming to reach our first destination, Khao Takhian Ngoh, in time for sunrise.

We take Phahonyothin Road towards Saraburi. Upon reaching Saraburi city, we continue on the road to Lopburi until we reach the intersection to turn right onto Highway 21 towards Phetchabun. At Nang Phaya Intersection, we will see a sign to turn left to Khao Kho (this route has good road conditions throughout). We drive until we reach the intersection to turn right to Khao Kho, but we continue straight to our first destination, Khao Takhian Ngo.

As we drove in the darkness, from 3 a.m. to almost 6 a.m., the light of a new day began to emerge. At that time, we were still on Highway 21, a little past Wichit Buri District. Both sides of the road were filled with fog from the first light. Even though we were there during a storm, the sky and the sun did not cooperate. We could not see even the light of the sun, plus the sky was completely white. We began to feel a little disappointed until we came across a rice field by the side of the road. The atmosphere with the rice field and the mountains in the background, with the fog adding to the feeling of being in Sapa, Vietnam, or something like that.

Continuing our journey, we turned left onto Khao Kho Road at Nang Phaya Intersection. The atmosphere and air were truly amazing. We slowly rolled down the windows and turned off the air conditioning, taking deep breaths of the fresh air. Ah, so refreshing!

Amidst the blacktop road, where mist clung to the mountains, we parked our car to capture this scene. With genuine smiles, we documented the moment. "Crazy, right? Taking photos and smiling to myself," we chuckled.

Point 1...Takhian Ngoh Tree

After passing the intersection to turn right to Khao Kho for about 2 kilometers, there will be a sign indicating a sharp turn uphill.

We arrived here around 8:00 AM. There was only one old man, who seemed to be the caretaker. The place was quiet and peaceful, devoid of people and chaos.

The cost of everything here.

Venue maintenance fee 10 baht

Tent rental fee is 450 baht per tent, which can accommodate up to 3 people.

Bring your own tent for 100 baht, venue rental fee included.

There are 3 toilets and 1 bathroom.

If you come to this spot on a clear day, you will be able to witness both the sunrise and sunset, as it offers a 360-degree panoramic view.

Point 2: Wat Kong Niem Viewpoint

We drove back to the intersection to Khao Kho. The viewpoint at Wat Kong Niam is on the right-hand side. However, it was too late, there was no fog, no people, only a monk cutting the grass. So, we didn't take any pictures. But we've seen pictures from this viewpoint before, and it's absolutely stunning at its peak.

Point 3: Wind Turbine Field

Hesitantly, I approached the岔路口, my original plan being to capture the sunset here after descending from Phu Thap Boek.

Having already come this far, we decided to explore the area. Signs indicating the way to the wind turbine field are posted along the route. The drive from the intersection took 6 kilometers and cost 20 baht for parking. We were only able to explore briefly before a light rain began to fall. Clouds and mist descended, shrouding the wind turbines. Rain fell intermittently throughout our journey due to the approaching storm, dashing our hopes of capturing beautiful light.

Point 4...Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew Temple

After turning at the intersection to ascend to Wat Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew, we encountered heavy rain throughout the journey. We drove past the temple and came across Pino Latte, a cafe bustling with customers. The cafe offers a wide selection of beverages and food, but the prices are slightly steep. However, the stunning view from this location makes it worth the expense.

Final Destination: Phu Thap Boek

Disappointed by the rain, we continued our journey to our final destination, the peak of Phu Thap Boek. Along the way, there were still some viewpoints, although they were not named. We could still see the Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew temple from afar.

The afternoon hours found us heading towards Phu Thap Boek. The road was in good condition throughout, and the drive was not particularly daunting. It was primarily an uphill climb, with the potential for more fearsome conditions on the descent.

The afternoon has arrived, yet the fog persists, limiting our visibility on the road to a mere short distance.

The exact time it took to reach the summit is unclear, but we arrived around 3 pm and immediately sought a place to pitch our tents. We opted for the services offered by Rai Rim Pha.

**Tent rental fee: 80 baht if you bring your own tent.**

**Tent rental fee: 500 baht for a small tent (sleeps 2) / 800 baht for a large tent (sleeps 4). Prices include bedding.**

**Bathroom and shower**

The air up here is amazing! Opening the tent door to this view is pure bliss.

This is a scenic viewpoint at the edge of a cliff. The bathroom is located below the viewpoint. It took me a while to find it.

The weather was impressive, despite some rain. However, the resort was overcrowded, making it feel congested. During peak season, the excitement and fun could easily turn into boredom.

We spent the entire day waiting for the fog to clear, only to have a few precious minutes to capture the scene. The strong winds and intermittent rain made it a challenging endeavor, but the ever-changing fog remained captivating in its beauty.

From the bottom, we walked up to the viewpoint at the temperature measurement station, intending to take pictures of the stars there.

From this viewpoint, we could see the road we had climbed. The temperature was 18 degrees, and the strong wind made us shiver with cold. We wished we could sit here and drink every night and wake up to coffee every morning.

The time for this session is up. We returned to the tent to wait for the stars to appear at night, but our luck was not good again. After sleeping for a while, it started to rain and continued to rain all night until water started to seep into the tent. We packed our belongings and went to sleep in the car, leaving the tent here. We will come back to collect it in the morning.

That's all for tonight.

New Day..29 July 2017

The rain continues to fall lightly, the fog enveloping the mountains. Another morning of despair.

Consoling oneself with a 20 baht pile of roasted sweet potatoes isn't bad, huh?

We waited for the sky to clear until 10 am, but there was no sign of it, so we decided to drive down.

The original plan was to drive down from Phu Thap Boek and return via Khao Kho, stopping to photograph the sunset at the wind turbine field. However, due to the poor weather conditions, today is not our day.

Although disappointed, we will not give up hope. We will return again next time.
