Do you share my passion for museums, art galleries, and various art forms? Throughout my seven years of education, from vocational school to university, I have been immersed in the arts. My vocational school, Thai Vocational Education School, was located near Sanam Luang, and my university, Poh Chang Academy of Arts, was also situated in the same vicinity. This proximity has fostered a deep familiarity with the Sanam Luang, Ratchadamnoen, and Rattanakosin Island areas.
It's been a long time since I graduated, and I haven't been to that area for a while. Today, I had the opportunity to visit a place that I'm very familiar with and love, "Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall." In fact, there are many interesting art galleries and museums in this area. I'll tell you more about them another time.
There are two routes to choose from, one of which takes almost 2 hours. Details are as follows:
Admission Fee
100 baht each
Truemove customers buy 1 get 1 free (regular price only).
Students: Free (Show student ID to claim)
Free for senior citizens (Thai citizens aged 60 and over) (show ID to claim benefit)
Free for monks, novices, and people with disabilities
Free BTS SkyTrain access for Ratnakosin Exhibition visitors.
- Opening hours: Open daily except Mondays from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
- Admission rounds: Every 20 minutes from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, totaling 22 rounds per day.
The last round of service is at 5:00 PM. If you wish to visit both routes, the last round is at 2:00 PM. For more information, please visit Nitas Rattanakosin Exhibition.
As mentioned at the beginning, there are a total of 9 exhibition rooms here, divided into 2 paths. You can choose which path to take, or you can combine the 2 paths.
In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the museum also features rotating exhibitions that change periodically. During my visit, the museum was hosting a special exhibition in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's 100th birthday, titled "Rattanakosin Centennial: Mulberry Leaves and Silkworms."
If you have already booked a time slot and it's still a long wait, there's another option available. Simply present your entry ticket to use the service.
"Rattanakosin Exhibition Library"
This is a medium-sized library with a wide selection of books to choose from. It has an internet corner and a work area. I could sit here all day if it weren't for the exhibition I have to see. 555
The truth is that on Saturday the 19th, Pan came alone and chose to take the second route because if he had taken both routes, he would not have had time to do his errands. On Saturday the 26th, he came back again, this time with a friend, and it was more fun to have someone to talk to.
Route 1
It consists of 7 exhibition rooms in total. Pan asks to post a group photo, not details of each room.
The primary focus is on introducing us to traditional Thai ways of life, including customs, cuisine, and performances.
The room incorporates modern technology, allowing visitors to have fun while learning. Before entering, visitors take a picture, which is then edited to insert their faces into characters in a video that is then played for them. It's quite amusing.
On the first route, there are some rooms where photography is prohibited. Pan did not take many photos, so I suggest you go and see for yourself. Now, let's move on to the second route.
Route 2
Although this route only has two rooms, it is not boring. Let's take a look.
The first room offered a fun boat ride, allowing us to observe the local riverside lifestyle accompanied by the sounds of traditional Thai music. It was an enjoyable experience.
The second route primarily focuses on historical events that occurred during the reigns of Rama I to Rama IX, including political and administrative developments, as well as significant historical events.
After completing both routes, Pan suggests going up to the top of the museum to enjoy the view.
Feel free to take photos as souvenirs. If you feel a little hungry, you can go downstairs to the coffee shop.
Before we close this article, let's take a peek at the bottom of the museum. Next to the coffee shop, you'll find the workshop room. This is where they hold events and activities, but on days like today when there's nothing scheduled, it becomes a spot for people to sit and enjoy their food and snacks.
Upon entering, you will encounter a photo booth. This booth caught my attention, so I went to investigate. It is a postcard booth where you can play with cutouts, placing your head on various outfits and backgrounds. You can then print it out for 20 baht per card.
Similar to Pan's experience on Route 1, this room also features video projections. However, in this instance, visitors have the opportunity to select their own outfits. Pan and her friends spent a considerable amount of time choosing their ensembles, resulting in an amusing outcome when the photos were printed.
Before you leave, don't forget to stop by and buy some souvenirs. If you use Truemove, I heard there's a discount. Check it out.
For today, I'll take my leave. Thank you to everyone who has read up to this line. It means that we share the same passion for museums and art galleries. I'll come back and share more stories with you another time. ^.^
