Erawan Waterfall: A Hidden Gem in Kanchanaburi

Erawan Waterfall is a popular tourist destination in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. The waterfall is located in Erawan National Park, and it is known for its seven tiers, each with its own unique beauty. The waterfall is a popular spot for swimming, hiking, and picnicking. Visitors can also take a boat ride to the top of the waterfall. Erawan Waterfall is a must-see for any visitor to Kanchanaburi.

For this trip, two of us ate, traveled, and slept in the park for only 700 baht per person (excluding travel expenses). The cost of a 1-day, 1-night trip to Erawan National Park is as follows: accommodation 800 baht, park entrance fee 100 baht per person (2 people = 200 baht), car entrance fee 30 baht per car (4 wheels), food and drinks 340 baht, totaling 1,370 baht, or 785 baht per person (excluding travel expenses). Accommodation at Erawan National Park includes houses for single travelers, couples, or large groups of friends. There is also a camping area. For the two of us, we stayed in the room closest to the waterfall, Erawan 201/1, which costs 800 baht. We were able to book our accommodation at the national park in advance at http://nps.dnp.go.th/reservation.php.

Transportation

For transportation, we traveled by private car. The round-trip fuel cost from Ayutthaya to Thong Pha Phum National Park and Erawan National Park was 1,500 baht. For those without a private car, public buses are available from Kanchanaburi to Erawan Waterfall. Buses depart from Kanchanaburi Bus Terminal from 8:00 AM to 5:20 PM, with departures every 50 minutes. The fare is 45 baht.

Kanchanaburi - Erawan Waterfall Public Bus
This is a classic bus! If you're visiting Kanchanaburi, don't forget to take a picture with this bus. You're sure to get some cool and stylish photos.

We arrived at the park from Thong Pha Phum at almost 5 pm. The two of us wasted no time and checked into our accommodation (we booked online through the national park website). We booked room Erawan 201/1 and will be staying here tonight. Our plan is to take pictures of the waterfall early in the morning.

We have booked a room for two people tonight for 800 baht.

The room is clean and in good condition. The bathroom is also clean. The room has air conditioning.

This is the first time we've slept in the park without pitching a tent. After dinner and a shower, my partner went straight to sleep. We have to wake up early tomorrow to capture the waterfall.

The first tier of the waterfall, "Returning to the Nest," is approximately 200 meters from our accommodation. We arrived at the waterfall around 6:00 AM, and we had the entire place to ourselves. The water was crystal clear, with a beautiful turquoise hue. This tier is ideal for families with young children to play in the water.

The second tier of the waterfall, "Wung Matchcha," is located 100 meters from the first tier. Upon reaching the second tier, one is immediately struck by its breathtaking beauty. The crystal-clear water shimmers with an azure hue.

The second tier of the waterfall, "Wung Matchcha," is aptly named for its abundance of fish (specifically, the "pla pluang" species). For those seeking a fish spa experience, small fish are available for nibbling on your feet, while larger fish are off-limits... unless you're on the menu! (Just kidding!)

The second tier of the waterfall, "Wung Matsaya"
When the waterfall is just for the two of us, it's amazing.

The second tier of the waterfall, "Wung Matchcha," allows access beneath the cascading water. However, I was hesitant to swim alone at 6 am. The water at this level is approximately 2 meters deep. Non-swimmers and weak swimmers should remain in the shallow areas.

The sentence is already in English and does not require translation.

The distance from the second floor to the third floor is 150 meters, which is an easy walk. Before reaching the third floor, there is a checkpoint where park officials inspect items being brought into the waterfall. After this point, food and snacks are prohibited. Water bottles are permitted, but visitors must register the number of bottles they are bringing and pay a 20 baht deposit per bottle. Upon exiting, the bottles must be returned, and the deposit will be refunded. Please do not leave anything behind and take nothing but memories and photographs with you. We did not pay a deposit, but we brought water with us because the officials had not yet arrived. We had to bring it back down with us. (The park is open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.) For those who cannot swim or are not confident swimmers, I recommend renting a life jacket from this point onward.

Third tier waterfall, "Pha Namtok"
Capture the moment, the waterfall belongs to two people.

The third tier of the waterfall, "Pha Namtok," has a depth of approximately 2.5 meters. Visitors are advised to read the signs posted by the local authorities before entering the water, as they provide information about the water's depth and flow rate.

Waterfall Level 3: "Pha Namtok"

This level has served as a filming location for numerous dramas and movies, including the popular "Jao Mae Nak" series. The scene where Kamkaew and Thanapol share a sweet moment was filmed here.

The third tier of the waterfall, "Pha Namtok," is incredibly beautiful and crystal clear!

Having captured the beauty of the third floor to our satisfaction,

Let's move on to the 4th floor. The distance between the 3rd and 4th floors in this picture resembles a heart shape.

The fourth waterfall, "Aok Nang Phi Sua" (Butterfly Maiden's Chest), is 350 meters from the third waterfall. The path becomes steeper from here. To see how steep it is, click on the video.

Waterfall Level 4: "Chest of the Ghost Butterfly"

This level is a must-visit for those seeking thrills, offering a unique opportunity to slide down the "Chest of the Ghost Butterfly." Trust me, it's an exhilarating experience you won't want to miss. Additionally, this level is home to friendly fish that provide a relaxing foot spa.

The fourth waterfall, "Butterfly Maiden's Chest," features a steep drop. Swimmers should be proficient and wear life jackets, as the water depth reaches 2.5 meters.

The fifth tier of the waterfall, "Too Tired to Climb Down," is located 450 meters from the fourth tier. After 3:30 PM, park rangers at the fourth tier checkpoint will no longer allow visitors to ascend to the fifth tier. The distance from the fourth to the fifth tier may seem longer due to the challenging terrain and steep incline, making it the most time-consuming section of the climb.

The fifth tier of the waterfall, "Tired of not going down," has very little water, making one wonder if the seventh tier will have any water at all. If there is water, this tier would be quite beautiful.

Tier 5: "Too Beautiful to Leave"

The fifth tier of the waterfall, "Too Tired to Climb Down".

The 5.5th floor is a small, hidden floor located between the 5th and 6th floors. It's a great place to relax and escape the crowds.

Along the way, there are small, beautiful waterfalls where you can stop and take pictures.

Sixth Tier: 'Dong Phruksa' Waterfall
The distance from the fifth tier to the sixth tier is 300 meters. The path becomes more challenging and requires careful navigation. The water flow at the sixth tier is minimal.

This floor, I'd like to call it 6.25. This floor is hidden amidst nature. Let me tell you, this floor is very beautiful. I went there first, you can go too.

The 6.5th floor is a hidden gem. I visited it last time and it was surprisingly empty despite the crystal-clear water. It's a great alternative to the crowded 7th floor, offering equally stunning views. Don't miss out on this secret spot!

'Phu Pha Erawan' Waterfall, Level 7
We have arrived at Level 7 of Phu Pha Erawan! We started our hike from Level 1 at 6:00 AM and reached Level 7 around 10:00 AM. We took our time to capture photos and enjoy the water at each level.

Seventh Tier: 'Phu Pha Erawan'
The water on this tier is clearer and more turquoise than the previous tiers, but the water level is still low. I recommend visiting all the tiers if you have the time, as each one is beautiful and has its own unique charm.

Seventh Tier: 'Phu Pha Erawan' Waterfall

Seventh Tier of the Waterfall: 'Phu Pha Erawan'
If there were water, it would be a beautiful sight. I will keep coming back until I see water flowing through Phu Pha Erawan.
