Today, "Mahami" presents…
"Finding หอยตะเภา" at Pak Meng Beach, Trang Province
Around 3 pm, I was traveling in the southern province of Trang, Thailand. My goal for the day was to watch the sunset at Hat Panga Meng Beach in Trang.
Shortly after 4 pm, I arrived and sat down to enjoy the breeze and the view. And then, all of a sudden, people started walking down to the sea one by one, carrying some kind of wooden sticks! What's going on?! Oh!
Around 5 pm, the beach was packed with people!
Driven by an insatiable curiosity, I couldn't resist the urge to descend and inquire further.
"What are you guys doing?"
And one of the younger brothers replied, "I'm looking for a turban shell." .. Hmm... A turban shell???
Wiki ... Come ..... !!
The ark clam is a large bivalve mollusk (approximately 5-10 cm in length). The outer surface of the shell is greenish-yellow, with some individuals exhibiting a darker coloration. The shape resembles a triangle with an upturned tail, similar to the stern of a Chinese junk, hence the local names "ark clam" or "junk stern clam." The left and right valves are equal in size and fit snugly together. The inner shell is pale purple. The ark clam burrows in sandy mud on gently sloping beaches. These clams have a siphon that extends above the sand to breathe and feed. They belong to the same family as the pen shells. The ark clam can be harvested during two periods: October-December and February-March, with the peak season being December.
"Hanoi shrimp" costs 400 baht per kilogram... very expensive!!
Villagers report that they can collect the shellfish 2-4 times a month, but only during low tide. Additionally, they cannot collect them year-round, with the collection period limited to approximately 5-7 months per year. This information aligns with the information found on Wikipedia.
As the sun began to set, people would arrive in their cars to purchase the catch immediately.
This is a fun activity that allows you to experience the local culture and earn some pocket money. According to the locals, …
"Some people can find more than 2 kilograms in just 2 hours! The income is good! … Well, now! After hearing this, I feel so lucky to have come across this by chance. Hehe!!"
The villagers then taught us how to find top shells like a pro. Here's what we learned...
"Look for the 'holes' on the ground where the turban shells are. There will be two holes close together on the ground. If you find them, try digging. They're right there." It sounds... very easy. A piece of cake. I'm sure we'll get a lot. Hehe!! Easy peasy.
I then dug with all my might, huffing and puffing. After more than an hour...
A total of ….. " 2 ! ! " HAHAHA
This is a blank paragraph.
They have started selling it...
This location attracts individuals of all ages and fosters a welcoming and joyful atmosphere, encouraging participants to discover the pleasure of shared activities.
