Hello! This is a 4-day, 3-night solo backpacking trip.
As an avid traveler, I decided to embark on a solo trip to Chiang Mai this month. While I had already booked my accommodation, I hadn't planned any specific activities. Although I have a friend in Chiang Mai, I opted to explore the city independently. Despite traveling alone, I wasn't concerned about feeling lonely, as I'm accustomed to solo adventures.
Chiang Mai is an easily accessible destination, and this wasn't my first visit. However, it was my first time exploring the city on a motorbike. For those without personal transportation, renting a car, motorbike, or hiring a red taxi are all viable options. Motorbikes are a popular choice among tourists.
"Who will take my photos if I'm traveling alone?" A tripod is the answer! I use a Fuji camera and the Camera Wifi app on my phone to connect to it remotely. This allows me to see the framing and choose my pose or position freely.
We arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport around 4 pm. We flew to Chiang Mai on September 3rd at 6:40 pm on a Thai Airways flight operated by a TG120 or A350-900 aircraft. We arrived at Chiang Mai Airport around 8 pm. The flight took about 1 hour, and we didn't even finish watching a movie. The plane had Wi-Fi, but it wasn't free.
Welcome to Thai Airways, where your journey is as smooth as silk.
Upon arrival at Chiang Mai Airport, we retrieved our luggage and proceeded to use Uber services. The ride from the airport to our hotel, Prestige Chiang Mai, located on Huay Kaew Road, took approximately 30 minutes. We booked a standard room (without breakfast) through Traveloka for a total of 2,400 baht, including discounts. The room was spacious and well-equipped with a television, air conditioning, and a refrigerator. The bathroom featured a bathtub, allowing for a relaxing soak. The hotel staff provided excellent service, making our stay enjoyable. We highly recommend this hotel.
The 12th floor features a swimming pool and the Woods Bar, a perfect spot to relax, listen to music, and enjoy the view. *0*
(If you come alone, you'll feel lonely right away. 5555)
Checked in and headed to Tha Pae Walking Street. Hailing a red truck from the opposite side, I was charged 40 baht (mentally noting that it should be 30). Strolling along, I enjoyed the sights and snacks, picking up a small elephant doll. On the way back, I called an Uber for 60 baht.
The rice noodles are very thick and delicious. They cost 35 baht.
Day 2# 4/9/60 Woke up early and rented a motorbike from Bikky Chiangmai. We got a Honda for 250 baht per day and rented it for 2 days. The shop delivered the bike to our hotel.
- The motorbike rental was 250 baht per day for 2 days. The bike came with half a tank of gas, and we had to return it with the same amount of gas. We ended up filling the tank for 90 baht. The bike was very fuel-efficient.
- For those who don't have a driver's license, you can still rent a motorbike here. You just need to exchange your ID card for the bike, and you'll get it back when you return the bike.
We filled up the tank and headed to the Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden in Mae Rim. It took less than an hour to get there from our hotel on Huay Kaew Road. We used GPS, and the roads were easy to navigate. It was about 20 kilometers in total. When we arrived, we walked the Canopy Walkway and took some photos. Then, we continued riding up the road. ..
- Our entrance fee is 30 baht per person and 40 baht per motorcycle. You can show your entrance ticket to the staff at the Canopy walkway. -
After leaving the Canopy Walkway, we continued our journey by riding up the road.
This place is absolutely stunning! If you're in the area, I highly recommend checking it out. However, our time was limited due to the approaching rain. The rain started to pour down, so we had to leave quickly.
After 200 meters from Suan Sirikit, I found a coffee shop by the waterfall. A little further down, there was a restaurant by the waterfall. I stopped by for a bite to eat before heading back to the city. It was so cool and refreshing.
The resident dog at the coffee shop greets every guest, but taking a picture of it is very difficult. The owner is also very kind.
A riverside restaurant with delicious food at affordable prices.
- The food was very affordable. We ordered three dishes and enjoyed the view while we ate. The total cost was only around 100 baht. The food was also delicious.
After leaving Mae Rim, I returned to the hotel to rest. Late at night, I went out to explore. Today, a kind older brother took me out for a ride.
Day 3# 5/9/60: A spontaneous day trip with a quick glance at the map to avoid getting lost. We woke up early to visit Wat Umong, Baan Kang Wat, and Doi Suthep, where we explored the Hmong village of Doi Pui. Following the GPS as usual, we ended up going the wrong way again. Luckily, the locals were incredibly helpful and answered all our questions.
Wat Umong (Buddhist Park)
After leaving Wat Umong, we headed to Baan Kang Wat, a nearby temple. We arrived around 10 am, just as the sun was starting to get hot. We walked around the temple grounds, enjoying the sights and sounds.
Baan Kang Wat is a popular spot for photographers, and it's easy to see why. The temple is beautifully decorated, with intricate carvings and colorful murals. However, it can get quite hot during the day, so be sure to wear sunscreen and a hat.

Leaving the house next to the temple at noon, we rode our motorcycles to the Hmong village of Doi Pui. Looking at the GPS, I thought to myself, "Oh my, is it going to be far?" Haha. We rode towards Doi Suthep, and after passing Doi Suthep, the weather was great. The forest was green and cool, perfect for riding. There were also foreigners riding motorcycles, going in the same direction as us (the foreigners were very friendly). If you're not comfortable riding a motorcycle, we saw red taxis parked at Doi Suthep, but I'm not sure about the price.
The road may have some potholes in certain sections. Please be cautious while riding as it is a single lane. Maintain a steady pace and avoid rushing, as oncoming vehicles may appear at any time. Additionally, there are numerous curves.
And then we finally arrived! We even saw fog! Yay! I asked a local how far it was from the city, and they said it was about 10 to 20 kilometers.
Stroll and take photos. Rent a Hmong costume for photos in the flower garden for only 50 baht.
- Entrance fee to the Hmong village: 10 baht.
- Waterfall zone: 10 baht.
This place offers a variety of local goods, including Hmong and Karen clothing, handbags, souvenirs, and gemstones. After strolling around until around 4 pm, it's best to head back as rain is likely on the horizon.
A light drizzle fell on the way back...
At a scenic viewpoint, I encountered an elderly gentleman painting a portrait of King Rama IX. He was being interviewed by reporters. I learned that he is an artist who volunteers his time to create free portraits of the King for tourists. I was fortunate enough to receive one myself.
Upon arriving at the hotel, we went up to admire the daytime view from above. Actually, we had already gone up in the morning and saw a lot of fog on Doi Suthep, but we forgot to bring our camera to capture it.
I went back to my room and fell asleep right away. Haha! That night, I went out for a bike ride like usual. I packed my things to check out early tomorrow morning.
We checked out of the hotel early on the 6th of September at 7 am, as our flight was scheduled for 10 am. We had to ride a motorbike to the airport, which was quite an adventure! We had checked the route to the airport the night before, so we knew we should leave early as we weren't familiar with the city roads. We rode and stopped, following the GPS, and it took us less than an hour to reach the airport from the hotel.

Baby elephant
Air is very kind and beautiful. She also kindly took photos for me.
The view from the window reveals a faint mist...
The flight to Suvarnabhumi Airport took about an hour. After picking up our luggage at the baggage claim, we took the Airport Link back to our accommodation. It was truly a solo trip to Chiang Mai, "Alone but not Lonely." ^__^
Thank you, beautiful Air hostess, Thai Airways, flight TG103 CNX-BKK 6/9/60 10.05 am. You took my photo and gave me orange juice. You are so lovely.
Don't be afraid to travel alone. You can travel alone too ^^ Next time I will ride a motorcycle to another place because Chiang Mai still has a lot of places to visit.
