Today, we are heading to Songkhla province with the same concept as before:
Work and travel, all in one.
Our destination this time is Ko Yo.
The sentence is already in English and does not require translation.
We took advantage of the convenient and competitively priced flights offered by various airlines. This time, we chose to fly with "น้องสิงโต". Before landing at Hat Yai International Airport, we were treated to a breathtaking aerial view of Ko Yo. (Don't miss this opportunity to admire the scenery!)

Traveling from Hat Yai Airport to Koh Yo, we recommend using SIXT car rental services. We think it's a good deal, but this price is only for online bookings. http://www.sixtthailand.com/th/ Let's go!!!

Rajavatr Woven Fabric
Ko Yo woven fabric is a traditional art form that has been passed down through generations on Ko Yo island since the Ayutthaya period. The intricate designs and traditional weaving techniques have been preserved, resulting in exquisite fabrics with a wide range of colors and patterns. Ko Yo woven fabric is renowned throughout Thailand, particularly for its intricate "Ratchawat" pattern, an ancient design bestowed with its name by King Rama V.

Mr. Wichai guides visitors through the weaving process and provides information about Koh Yo woven fabrics. Those interested in supporting the local community can purchase beautiful woven fabrics as souvenirs for their loved ones back home.

Visit and taste the delicious sapodilla at Uncle Wisut Sawatmuni's orchard.
Winner of the Best of Songkhla Award 2017.
Ko Yo boasts a diverse range of fruit orchards, but the most renowned are the **jackfruit** and **sapodilla**. The jackfruit variety found here is unique to Thailand, while the sapodilla has been cultivated by local farmers for centuries. Sapodilla, in particular, generates significant income for farmers due to its popularity among consumers. Its widespread recognition stems from its unique sweetness, crisp texture, and fine red flesh, unlike sapodilla grown elsewhere. Local residents cultivate sapodilla trees around their homes and on hillsides.
After a day of sightseeing and exploring Koh Yo, it's time to check into our accommodation.
On the way to our accommodation, we pass a Tai Kong Shrine opposite Koh Yo Homestay. We stop by to pay our respects.
This religious site was built during the reign of King Rama III, when a large number of Chinese people were trading with Thailand. Some of them settled on Ko Yo and built the Tai Kong Shrine to worship their ancestors.

Wat Tai Yai
Pay homage to the religious site of Koh Yo
The "Thai-style hip-roofed kuti" is over 200 years old. The roof is made of Ko Yo terracotta tiles and old-style corrugated tiles. A unique feature is that the pillars of the kuti are not embedded in the ground but are placed on base plates, which is a characteristic of houses in southern Thailand.
In addition to Wat Thay Yoi, there are other ancient sites and artifacts worth studying and learning about, such as ancient wells, ancient ponds, a royal boathouse, stupas, a beautiful bell tower, and traces of an ancient pier, which was once the center of transportation for the people of Koh Yo. Behind Wat Thay Yoi is Khao Pehar or Khao Wihan, where a beautiful Sri Lankan-style pagoda is enshrined, which is worth preserving.
The temple is located next to Songkhla Lake, with a pavilion extending out, offering a glimpse into the lives of the islanders.
Cafe'in Koh Yo
A short walk past Wat Thay Yoi will lead you to this small cafe. While the front of the shop faces the road, the interior boasts a relaxing seating area by the Songkhla Lake. The cafe's lawn-style design creates a homey atmosphere, offering plenty of shade. There's a seating area on the floor near the water's edge, as well as tables scattered throughout the lawn. The ambiance is excellent, with stunning views of the azure lake and clear skies. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and delicious.

Seaweed Salad
Today, I learned how to cook a local dish from Koh Yo, which uses dried seaweed called "sai". This dish is unique to Koh Yo and cannot be found anywhere else!
Seaweed salad from Koh Yo, Krabi, by Kru Kalaya, one of the few remaining vendors selling seaweed salad on the island. All ingredients are homemade, and the preparation follows a traditional recipe passed down through generations. The process begins with dried hair algae, which is washed in clean water and sun-dried for 3-4 rounds. This transforms the seaweed from black to a soft white color with a crispy texture.
The seaweed salad is then tossed with a dressing made of tamarind juice, palm sugar mixed with shrimp paste, roasted coconut, roasted peanuts, dried shrimp, salt, and garnished with fresh chili, dried shrimp, and roasted coconut for a beautiful and appetizing presentation. Young betel leaves are served as a side dish to accompany the seaweed salad, which has a sweet and sour taste and a crunchy texture, making it perfect for snacking.
Served with betel leaves, the dish tastes similar to Mieng Kam, with the aroma of roasted peanuts and the crunch of seaweed. It's delicious!
