Phlio National Park

History:

"Pliu Waterfall" is a naturally beautiful waterfall with water flowing year-round. It consists of two streams that cascade down a 20-meter cliff, converging in a crystal-clear pool where the bottom is clearly visible. The pool is home to a large number of fish, particularly the "Pla Phluang Hin", which are remarkably large. These fish are a major highlight of Pliu Waterfall. Swimming with these large fish is not as scary as one might think, as they are accustomed to humans and vice versa.

Location: 110 Moo 5, Santisuk Road, Chanthanimit Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chanthaburi Province, 15 kilometers from Chanthaburi city, heading towards Trat Province.

National Park Entrance Fees: Adults 40 Baht, Children 20 Baht

The road leading to the waterfall is stunning, with towering green mountains framing the view.

The following is a translation of the provided text:

"In the slang language of the song, "pliew" means sand or beach. It is a combination of the words "ทราย" (sand) and "หาดทราย" (beach). The word also rhymes with "ลิง" (monkey)."

Stone Carp or Carp

General characteristics: A freshwater fish belonging to the Cyprinidae family, it is large in size with a long body and a small head. It has two pairs of barbels. The body is brown-green in color with large scales. The fins are dark blue. The color of the fish depends on the environment. It is about 60 centimeters in size, with the largest reaching 1.8 meters.

Diet: The pufferfish consumes various fruits and seeds. However, it avoids consuming certain types of seeds that can induce intoxication due to the accumulation of toxins within the fish's body.

Habitat: They live in large groups of 100 or more individuals in clear, flowing water sources such as mountain streams and waterfalls.

Breeding season: Spawning occurs from November to February, with fish migrating upstream to lay eggs, similar to salmon and trout.

Playing in a waterfall is like playing with the fish. We coexist peacefully.

Initially, I was a bit apprehensive due to their immense size. However, I gradually acclimated, and the fish here are remarkably friendly.

In addition to the waterfall, there is a 1.2-kilometer nature trail starting opposite the park headquarters. Visitors can explore the nature trail.

Pliu Waterfall is a series of cascading tiers, easily accessible via well-maintained walkways, eliminating the need for strenuous climbing.

The swamp eel is found everywhere.

While walking, I encountered a large, tame iguana that emerged from an unknown location. It posed for a photograph, seemingly unafraid of human interaction.

The abundance of fish is so great that it makes one wonder what they possibly eat.

Alangkarn Chedi: King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and Queen Sunandha Kumariratana, his consort, commissioned the construction of this sandstone chedi in 1876 at the front cliff of Pliew Waterfall. It commemorates their visit to the waterfall and was named "Alangkarn Chedi" by the King. King Chulalongkorn was particularly fond of Pliew Waterfall and visited it on numerous occasions. He remarked, "I have seen waterfalls like this in a few places, namely Penang, Koh Chang, and Si Phraya, but I have not seen any more beautiful than this one. If I were to sit here and watch until dusk, I would be perfectly content, for it is truly cool and refreshing."

This waterfall is the highlight, cascading down from a great height with stunning beauty. Its roar echoes throughout the surroundings.

The area remains a pristine forest, resulting in a pleasantly cool climate year-round. The average temperature ranges from 26 to 30 degrees Celsius. However, during this particular season, rainfall is particularly heavy, making it an ideal time for a visit.
