Waterfall Hunting in Kanchanaburi: A Journey Through Lush Landscapes

The months of October and November mark the transition from the rainy season to the cool, dry season in Thailand. This period is widely considered the prime time for waterfall exploration, as the cascades are at their most magnificent. The receding rains create a window of opportunity for waterfall enthusiasts, offering a chance to witness the cascading waters in their full glory.

The allure of crystal-clear, emerald-green waters cascading down rocky cliffs, coupled with the abundance of natural attractions in Kanchanaburi, drew us back to this enchanting province for another waterfall adventure. Our previous visit to Erawan Waterfall in June, during the height of the rainy season, left us with a sense of disappointment due to the scarcity of water. The situation was so severe that the Huai Mae Khamin National Park was forced to close its doors due to drought conditions.

However, a fortunate turn of events unfolded in early October. As the rainy season began to recede, a series of storms swept across Thailand, bringing much-needed rainfall to the region. This coincided with our planned waterfall expedition to Kanchanaburi, offering us a unique opportunity to witness the impact of the recent downpours on the province's iconic waterfalls.

Our two-day, three-waterfall itinerary included visits to Erawan, Huai Mae Khamin, and Pha Tad. Each waterfall presented a unique spectacle, showcasing the transformative power of the recent rains.

We started our journey at Erawan Waterfall, which was packed with people on a Sunday. The drive from Bangkok to Erawan Waterfall takes about 3.5 hours, which is quite a distance. However, as a passenger, I was able to sleep the entire way.

The entrance fee for Erawan Waterfall is 100 baht for adults and 30 baht for cars. In my opinion, the price is a bit high compared to other national parks in Thailand, which typically charge around 40 baht per person. When I inquired about the higher price, the staff explained that it was due to the lower number of visitors. However, the large crowd I witnessed suggests otherwise.

Before entering the waterfall area, we stopped at a restaurant near the entrance to grab some food. As we planned to spend a significant amount of time exploring the waterfall, we opted to take a golf cart to the starting point, which cost 30 baht per ride and covered a distance of approximately 1.5 kilometers.

Erawan Waterfall, this is our fourth visit, and this time we still haven't reached all 7 levels like before. 555

Because we arrived at the waterfall around 2 pm and 4 pm, we thought we had to go back, so we only took pictures of 3 levels like before. Hehe

Actually, if anyone wants to walk up to see all 7 levels of the waterfall, it's about 1.5 kilometers, and the round trip is 3 kilometers.

The levels we got to take pictures of the waterfall are

Level 1 Lai Khoi Rang

To capture a photo without people, I had to find hidden angles.

There were a lot of people playing in the beautiful and refreshing waterfall.

To achieve a smooth waterfall effect, I used a tripod and set the shutter speed to a slow setting.

I set the aperture to F 22 and used a CPL filter to reduce the light by one stop. The camera I used was the Fuji XT20,

which I recently bought as a birthday present for myself.

Level 2 of Wang Matcha

This is a blank paragraph.

This layer of Wang Matha has more fish than other layers. These fish are not afraid of people. People also play with them in a friendly way. 555

But the scariest thing, even more than the slugs I've encountered, is the mosquitoes. During our last visit,

there were so many mosquitoes that it was itchy. They bit my arms and legs, leaving bloody spots and marks. I couldn't stay still.

I had to go back to scratch the bumps on my legs and arms outside.

On the way up to the third level of the waterfall, we came across a bridge with a beautiful view.

However, this spot is also included in the third level. It's beautiful, but no one goes there to play.

The third level of the waterfall

This is a blank paragraph.

Erawan Waterfall, no matter which level you escape to, you will encounter people on every level. 555 But I must say that this level has the most foreigners.

They came in tour groups and wore bikinis, but they were tourists over 50 years old, so I didn't take any pictures. Hehehehehe

I only finished 3 levels of Erawan, and I hurried back because it started to rain again at 4 pm.

When I arrived at the tourist service center, it was raining heavily. I thought to myself that I came down just in time, because I was most afraid of water getting into my camera!

It takes approximately one hour to travel from Erawan Waterfall to Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall.

Using Google Maps for navigation is the most convenient option.

Huai Mae Khamin Waterfall is located in Si Sawat District, Kanchanaburi Province. It is a convenient waterfall that does not require a long walk.

There is a campsite within the National Park that is very convenient and close to various convenience stores, which sell a wide variety of food.

And the food here is very delicious, we have tried it ourselves. Hehe.

You can drive directly into the Huai Mae Khamin Waterfall area. The parking lot is on the 4th floor.

And we will start at the 4th floor, Chat Kaeo, which is considered the most beautiful floor of Huai Mae Khamin Waterfall.

When we visited Huai Mae Khamin Waterfall, we only saw 4 floors out of 7 floors because the sun was shining brightly on the waterfall in patches.

No matter how we took the photos, they didn't look good. So we just took what we could get.

This is a blank paragraph.

Fourth floor, Chatkaew

We arrived at Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall around 1:00 PM the next day. We lost an hour waiting for and crossing the car ferry.

The shortcut road was in poor condition, making a 4WD vehicle the most convenient option. There are multiple routes to Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall, depending on the starting point.

We chose to come from the direction of Sweet Home Floating House, a raft accommodation.

Third floor, Wang Pha Fa

The Mae Khamin Waterfall is currently experiencing its highest water levels in recent years. However, the high water volume makes photography difficult and less aesthetically pleasing.

The water is also quite strong and slightly cloudy due to recent rainfall.

We anticipate that the waterfall will return to its lush green beauty by the end of October, assuming the rain subsides.

Level 2: Ma Khamin Curtain

Paragraph 1:

This level will have some tourists playing in the water, but we saw that the water is really strong, so it's quite dangerous.

Paragraph 2:

We wanted to set up a tripod in the middle of the waterfall, but it wasn't possible. We could only look at it, but that was enough.

Paragraph 3:

As for the first level, Dong Wan, we already took pictures of it, so we won't post them. The sun was shining in patches, like a leaky roof. Haha.

Paragraph 4:

Let's just say that we'll keep it for ourselves on the HDD. We give a thumbs up to the fourth level, Chat Kaew, the most beautiful part of Mae Khamin Waterfall on the day we visited.

Paragraph 5:

From Mae Khamin Waterfall, we still had some time left to visit another waterfall that we had set our sights on.

Paragraph 6:

That is Pha Tad Waterfall, located in Thong Pha Phum District, which is much further away.

Paragraph 7:

Actually, I should mention that we didn't drive along the blue lines on the map. We took a shortcut from the gray lines on the map.

Paragraph 8:

We also passed by the Nein San viewpoint. We stopped by in the afternoon when the sun was strong.

Please translate the following sentence from Thai to English:

Scenic Viewpoint at Heaven's Hill, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province

Pha Tad Waterfall: Drive along the Pha Tad Hot Spring route for another 6 kilometers.

Parking and Access: Park your car at the designated parking area and walk 300 meters to reach the waterfall entrance.

Pha Tad Waterfall does not have distinct tiers.

However, as you walk along the trail, you will encounter stunning waterfalls at various points.

This is the 300-meter point that we have reached.

Notice the curtain of water cascading down behind us, resembling a cheering crowd in a stadium.

This is a blank paragraph.

We found the Pha Tad Waterfall to be stunning and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Surprisingly, it is not a well-known attraction.

Compared to Erawan Waterfall, we highly recommend Pha Tad for a more enjoyable and less strenuous experience.

When we arrived around 4-5 pm, there was no sun and remarkably, no other visitors.

It felt as if the waterfall was exclusively ours, which made the experience even more special.

Most importantly, Pha Tad Waterfall is free from annoying gnats and leeches.

There are only a few mosquitoes, as it is already late and they are starting to feed. Hehe.

If I had the time and opportunity, I would choose to play in the water at Pha Tad Waterfall again.

It is definitely worth it to visit the 2 days 3 waterfalls in Kanchanaburi. There are still many waterfalls that I have not visited.

Because this province has a lot of waterfalls. If you ask if you can do a One Day Trip to these 3 waterfalls,

I would say it is very difficult. It is not possible. I recommend staying overnight so that you can fully enjoy all 3 waterfalls.
