On a lazy day, sometimes you just want to relax and unwind in the heart of the city.

So, I searched for a hotel in central Bangkok that was close to the BTS or MRT, so I could easily get to work in the morning. And, most importantly, the price had to be reasonable.

Ta-da! We found the Mandarin Hotel Samyan.

This is a good hotel with high standards, having been open for over 50 years.

Hold on! Don't be put off by the length of time it's been closed. The Mandarin has undergone a major two-year renovation, completely transforming the hotel into a modern and stylish destination.

Let's begin our visual storytelling journey. 1, 2, 3...

WELCOME

The hotel's spacious lobby welcomes guests with a comfortable and visually appealing atmosphere.

The lobby features an abundance of sofas, providing ample seating for guests.

Everything here is managed by a key card system, from taking the elevator to entering your room. Even breakfast requires a key card.

Upon check-in, you will receive two cards.
Note: A room deposit of 1,000 baht is required before check-in.
This deposit will be refunded upon check-out.
Payment can be made in cash or by credit card.

Check-in complete! Let's take a look at the room.

In addition to the room we stayed in, we were also able to get permission to take pictures of two other rooms: the Grand Suite and the Deluxe. Let's take a look at the Deluxe room first.

PREMIER ROOM

This is a 30 sqm room with both double and twin beds.

The beds are wide, soft, and bouncy, making for a very comfortable sleep.

The mascot here is incredibly adorable.

Tonight's entertainment is the automatic flush button.
You can choose to clean it up after a heavy or light bowel movement.
It's up to your personal preference. Hahahaha. Then press the button to blow it dry.
Cool and dry without getting your hands dirty. I like it.

The room amenities are complete and well-equipped. Please refer to the pictures for a detailed list of what is included.

DELUXE ROOM
The view is not as good as the Premier room.

The Deluxe room is about this size. Next, let's take a look at the Grand Suite.

GRAND SUITE

The facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, which closes at 8pm.

Food and drink

The Krualuang Restaurant is located at the front of the hotel.
It offers two buffet services:

  • Lunch buffet: International cuisine, served from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM, priced at 370 Baht net per person.
  • Dinner buffet: Congee buffet, served from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, priced at 290 Baht net per person.

This is a buffet-style rice porridge restaurant that I recently visited and highly recommend. It offers a wide variety of delicious dishes at an incredibly affordable price.

Start at the vegetable bar. Choose the vegetables you like and put them on your plate. The staff will then stir-fry them for you.

Crispy pork and crispy fish can be added to the plate as desired.
This stir-fry is now complete. It looks delicious, doesn't it?

This angle shows the rice porridge machine. Feel free to choose your favorite toppings. There is also a dipping sauce available.

The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes. I was so busy eating that I forgot to take pictures.
The three dishes pictured are local specialties:
- Braised vegetables with preserved radish
- Stir-fried preserved radish with eggs
- Minced pork stir-fried with fermented black beans

While browsing the menu, I was enticed by dishes that were not included in the buffet. I decided to order two à la carte dishes, which were both flavorful and reasonably priced.

Spicy salmon salad.
