A Journey to Chiang Mai: Temples, Coffee, and Enchantment

Our journey takes us once again to the captivating city of Chiang Mai. As children of the islands and the sea, we find ourselves increasingly drawn to the charm of this northern gem. Each visit unveils new layers of its allure, making it a destination for all seasons.

This time, we embarked on a pilgrimage to Wat Den Sa Li Si Mueang Kaen (Wat Ban Den), seeking blessings and spiritual solace. Afterwards, we stumbled upon a hidden gem: Phu San Fa Coffee House, nestled within a hotel complex yet offering an ambiance akin to sipping coffee amidst a sprawling meadow.

Let's go together! This time, the flour bag starts its journey from Chiang Dao to return to the city.

Let's stop to admire the beautiful scenery of Baan Na Lao Mai, a viewpoint overlooking Doi Luang Chiang Dao. Today, the mist embraces Doi Luang.

From Chiang Dao district, follow Highway 107. At the three-way intersection, turn left towards the dam. Continue for approximately 3.3 km and turn left at the sports field. Proceed for another 2 km.

Arrival at "Wat Den Sali Sri Mueang Kan (Wat Ban Den)"

Wat Den Sali Sri Mueang Kan (Wat Ban Den) is an ancient temple located on a hilltop, offering panoramic views of the surrounding rice fields, houses, and an abundance of "sali" trees (a type of fig tree). The temple's name is derived from the presence of these trees.

The architectural style is a modern interpretation of Lanna architecture, incorporating the "temple-thinking" concept of the abbot, who sought to blend "temple-home" and "forest temple" elements. This approach aimed to attract people to the temple for spiritual cultivation, based on the belief that religion thrives through practice. The construction adheres to the principle of building according to merit.

During my visit to Chiang Mai, I had the opportunity to explore numerous temples, each boasting unique beauty and charm. This particular temple stood out with its distinctive features and intricate details, creating a breathtaking spectacle.

  • The journey to Wat Den Sali Sri Mueang Kan (Wat Ban Den) is approximately 50 km from Chiang Mai city. The temple is located in Inthakhin Subdistrict, Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province. It is on the same route as the Mae Ngad Somboon Chon Dam. Follow Highway 107, passing the Mae Taeng District Office. Continue for approximately 3.3 km and turn left at the sports field. Proceed for another 2 km.

After feeling spiritually fulfilled, it's time to satisfy our stomachs. Today, we'll visit "Phu San Fah Coffee House," which, as mentioned earlier, is part of the Phu San Fah Hotel. This restaurant boasts a beautiful atmosphere with rice fields, mountains, and a view encompassing the natural surroundings and local life.

Upon parking in front of the lobby, proceed to the area designated for restaurants and cafes.

Upon entering the restaurant, one is immediately struck by the distinct aroma of Lanna-style decor.

This restaurant is located in Mae Taeng, in the same direction as the Mae Ngad Dam. It may seem far from the city center, but the atmosphere is worth the trip. The setting is beautiful, with rice fields and a gentle breeze.

While waiting for our food order, we explored the area, which is considered a highlight of the location.

The cafe boasts a variety of seating options, perfect for lounging, napping, and snapping photos. Photography enthusiasts will not want to miss this spot. During the rice-growing season, the cafe offers breathtaking views of lush green rice paddies that stretch as far as the eye can see, providing a serene and relaxing atmosphere.

The food started to arrive, and we all sat back down at the table. The dishes were flavorful and well-balanced.

The food and drinks may be a bit pricey for those unfamiliar with hotel prices. However, the flour bag is priced at the standard rate for hotel restaurants and is commensurate with the taste, quality, and atmosphere. There are many savory and sweet dishes on the menu, making it suitable for families or groups of friends.

The coffee and cake are equally delicious, making this a popular spot for those seeking to experience local life and breathe fresh air. Visitors to Mae Taeng district will not be disappointed. The atmosphere at night offers a different experience.

...Today, we are full of merit, joy, and delicious food. The atmosphere here is amazing. If any of my friends pass by Mae Taeng District, please stop by to pay respect to the Buddha and visit the coffee shop in the middle of the field to experience the fresh air here...
