This trip, we escaped the city to 3 destinations in Chiang Mai that will cleanse your lungs. We highly recommend you visit these places.
1. Sukantara Cascade Resort & Spa, a stunning waterfall resort ranked among the top 5 in the world (Angelina Jolie even brought her children here!).
2. Breathe in the fresh air and oxygen at the Mon Cham viewpoint.
3. Explore the Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden, a haven for rare plant species.
Let's get started without wasting any time. :P
📌1. Sukantara Cascade Resort & Spa, Mae Rim, Chiang Mai
Nestled amidst the lush greenery of Mae Rim, Chiang Mai, Sukantara Cascade Resort & Spa offers a tranquil escape just an hour away from the airport (approximately 43 km). This stunning resort boasts breathtaking natural beauty, with cascading waterfalls and lush vegetation creating a truly immersive experience.
If you're dreaming of spending a couple of days sleeping in the middle of the forest, listening to the sound of waterfalls and birds singing, this is the perfect place for you.
How natural is it? Well, let's just say that you wake up to the sound of a waterfall, birds singing, and the gentle sun. You sit down for breakfast and watch ducks playing in the water and peacocks strutting by. And I mean, strutting right up close, so close that we were worried for them! They're not afraid of people at all, you can practically walk right up to them. It's like they're part of the same species as us.
The resort's location is adjacent to a waterfall and forest, which is a major selling point as it allows guests to experience nature without compromising its beauty. The resort also preserves the traditional Thai Lanna culture, creating an authentic and immersive experience for visitors. Upon entering the resort, guests are immediately transported to a natural paradise.
Imagine the extent of nature when even peacocks come close to the room's door. :)
Suite Waterfall Pool Villa 1 Bedroom
This stunning villa boasts a spacious layout with one bedroom and a living room, comfortably accommodating up to 3-4 guests with the addition of an extra bed (available for purchase).
Key features:
- Luxurious Jacuzzi: Indulge in a relaxing soak in the Jacuzzi, located both within the bathroom and outdoors, while enjoying the mesmerizing view of the cascading waterfall.
- Private Pavilion: Unwind in the tranquility of your own private pavilion, offering a serene escape amidst the lush surroundings.
- Private Garden: Immerse yourself in nature within your personal garden, providing a tranquil space for relaxation and reflection.
The room exudes a warm and authentic Lanna Thai atmosphere. If you're a fan of this style of accommodation, then you definitely need to come and experience it for yourself.
The spacious living room can comfortably accommodate guests for sleeping without the need for an additional bed.
The resort boasts a high level of privacy, with no disturbances except for the sound of the nearby waterfall. This is due to its secluded location and proximity to the water. (Those seeking solitude should consider this option… Foreigners often stay for weeks without leaving the premises.)
This place also has a large swimming pool. How about swimming in the pool and looking at the waterfall view? It's so cool.
This photo depicts a house located across from the resort. While not part of the resort itself, we find it charming and reminiscent of a foreign country. The house, though old, retains its classic appeal.
After taking photos of the beautiful scenery, it was already evening. We decided to stay at the resort for dinner, as we had heard that their Khantoke buffet was delicious. And it was definitely worth it! The buffet offered a wide variety of traditional Thai dishes, and we could eat as much as we wanted. It was a truly memorable experience.
Another highlight is the peacocks. Before sunset, the peacocks call out to each other as a signal to gather before flying up to sleep in the tall trees. If you are not out doing activities, you will see the peacocks strutting around beautifully.
I really like the sai oua here. It's not as greasy as the ones I usually eat at other restaurants, and the nam prik num is delicious!
Nestled by the cascading waterfall, Khun Tok offers a culinary experience unlike any other. (If I could give it a 100 out of 100, I would! While we've encountered numerous beautiful resorts, none have matched the pristine natural beauty we've witnessed here in the past two years.)
*** For those who crave something sweet, indulge in the "Naomi Cake" (a local favorite with a loyal following). They say you'll regret it if you don't try it. : )))
As evening descends, tranquility envelops the surroundings. Those seeking respite can indulge in a refreshing soak and retire for the night. For those who prefer to stay awake, the resort offers a selection of DVD movies to enjoy in the privacy of their rooms. Should the local television channels fail to captivate, a diverse array of entertainment options awaits.
The lobby is decorated with antique wooden furniture, which may appeal to antique enthusiasts.

After finishing our meal, we all went back to our rooms to shower, as we were quite tired from the journey.
The next morning, we woke up early to participate in one of the highlights of our trip: a birdwatching hike. We set out at 7:30 am, the perfect time to catch the birds as they start their morning foraging. After 8 am, sightings become less frequent.
To go birdwatching in the forest, you need to cross the red bridge to the other side of the resort. You can borrow binoculars for free at the reception. The trail leads to Mae Sa Waterfall, which is about 1 kilometer away.
The distance of 1 km may seem short, but the uphill climb can still be tiring. Initially, we planned to reach the top, but we encountered mosquitoes in the forest. Since we were not prepared for a hike, we were wearing shorts and ended up with mosquito bites all over our legs. We had to rush back down the hill.
This trip has only my mother as a companion. She said that she has knee pain, but she can walk without waiting for anyone... You can trust my mother when it comes to traveling. 555
We had to retreat before we could even walk a short distance because there were too many mosquitoes and we were all wearing shorts. Except for Mom, who was fully prepared. >.< So we had to retreat and eat... Actually, you don't have to go far to be happy. The view from the accommodation is the best.
The breakfast atmosphere was incredible. We were so excited that we couldn't stop taking pictures. We were not used to such a natural environment, with peacocks and ducks walking around while we ate. There was even a waterfall running through the resort. It was an indescribable experience!
Another recommended activity when visiting here is the spa, Chida Spa, as it has been recognized as a Gold Award standard spa by the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
I rarely get spa massages, but when I do, I feel incredibly relaxed, especially in my shoulders and upper back. It's a great way to relieve the tension from my office job.
The spa's atmosphere is incredibly relaxing. Even just waiting, before the massage, I felt a sense of calm and well-being. The cool, shaded environment is truly delightful.
The resort review ends here. Too much might bore you, right? In conclusion, it was a very impressive stay at the resort. It's another place I love for its amazing atmosphere. I've been to many places, but I have to admit that this place is the most natural and closest to nature. My mother even went to ask if there were any more discounts so she could bring her group of friends back again. 5555+
We highly recommend trying it out, you'll be hooked just like us!

2. Breathe in the Fresh Air at the Scenic Mon Cham Viewpoint
Mon Cham Viewpoint offers a breathtaking escape where you can purify your lungs and inhale the invigorating oxygen. The stunning scenery will leave you feeling truly refreshed.
22/8 Moo 7, Mae Ram Subdistrict, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai 50180
Sukantara Cascade Resort is only a 40-minute drive, approximately 16.5 km away. However, the road is winding and challenging, with numerous sharp turns. Exercise caution when driving.
Mon Cham is a popular tourist destination in Mae Rim, offering panoramic views. The atmosphere is pleasant, and there are restaurants and cafes run by the Royal Project. We had a delicious and affordable lunch there.
Besides the beautiful view, there are also many spots for taking pictures. :P
After visiting Mon Cham, we set our sights on the Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden, which was conveniently located nearby. The drive took approximately 8.5 kilometers and less than 20 minutes.
📌3. Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden: Explore the Rare Plant Species
Admission fee: Adults 40 baht, Children 20 baht, Cars 100 baht
Open 8.30 am - 4.30 pm
Map: https://goo.gl/maps/A8UKwu82Tfr
The botanical garden is not far from Mon Chaem, approximately a 20-minute drive downhill. However, the road is quite winding, similar to the ascent to Mon Chaem. Be prepared for some curves!
There are many spots here for taking pictures. The first spot is Conppy Walk, where you can enjoy the view of the green forest on a steel bridge. If you come to walk in the cool breeze, it will be very cool. You can take pictures in a cool way on the Conopy Walkway, the longest skywalk in Thailand, which stretches amidst the views of mountains and trees.
Not only that, for those who enjoy taking artistic or portrait photos, drive a little further and park at the botanical garden. The views are stunning, with a variety of cacti, orchids, and other unique and beautifully shaped trees. You won't be disappointed!
The Chiang Mai trip is over. It was a relaxing trip to breathe fresh air and reconnect with nature. I feel like I've gained years of energy! :) If you still have the energy to travel, do it! Don't just focus on making money and forget to take time to relax. If you have money but don't invest in your happiness, your body will eventually give out. You'll end up spending money on medical bills, which isn't worth it. You'll also regret not living life to the fullest.
Take a break from your mind, your heart, and your eyes. Find time to recharge your life's energy. :)
See you again on the next trip! :)
