Visiting Mon Cham and staying overnight at "Mong Hilltribe Lodge".
Chiang Mai boasts a plethora of tourist attractions, offering endless exploration opportunities throughout the year. New destinations continuously emerge, fueling the desire to visit and expand travel lists. However, certain locations remain universally renowned, captivating visitors with their enduring charm. One such place is **"Mon Cham,"** where we have had the pleasure of visiting four times, each time discovering something new and exciting. Despite our frequent visits, we had never delved deeper into the history and significance of Mon Cham. We knew it for its beautiful flowers, picturesque photo opportunities, cool climate, and proximity to Chiang Mai city. This time, we decided to embark on a more thorough exploration, seeking a unique accommodation experience. We envisioned a place nestled amidst nature, surrounded by towering trees, with a refreshing swimming pool, breathtaking mountain views, and nearby rice paddies. To our surprise, such a haven exists: **"Mong Hill Tribe Lodge."** This lodge embodies everything we desired, offering a tranquil escape amidst the stunning natural landscape. We arrived during the rice harvesting season, when most fields had been cleared, but Mong Hill Tribe Lodge still boasted vibrant green rice paddies, a sight to behold.
Upon arrival, please proceed to the counter on this side. The surroundings are very lush, with a small stream flowing along the path. There are also two adorable miniature buffalo clay dolls. ^^
The parking lot is adorned with large trees that are currently in full bloom, showcasing vibrant colors as we enter the winter season.
Each room is a charming wooden house nestled amidst a variety of lush trees. We were assigned the largest house, located furthest inside the property.
Each bungalow features four rooms, including a central living area. The spacious layout offers a choice of single or double beds. The interior design reflects the Hmong style, evident in the color scheme and decorative elements such as window curtains and lamps. Ceiling fans are provided, as air conditioning is unnecessary due to the consistently cool climate.
The bathroom is ensuite, featuring a wet zone for showering and a dry zone for the sink and toilet. The shower has adjustable hot and cold water temperature.
The area in front of the bathroom serves as a storage space for extra blankets and bedding. These items can be especially useful during the cold winter months, when temperatures can drop significantly.
And what we really love is that there is a balcony that opens out to this beautiful view. It's so beautiful and relaxing. You can see the rice fields, the mountains, and sometimes even the mist at the top of the mountains. It's a sight that makes you feel refreshed and relaxed.
Stepping out into the communal lounge, one finds a welcoming space with chairs arranged for relaxation. A designated area allows for the building of small charcoal fires during chilly evenings. Complimentary bottled water, hot water, and coffee are readily available for guests' enjoyment.
As evening falls, it's time for a delicious meal. Let's dine at the hotel's restaurant, where the ambiance makes you feel like royalty. The staff's warm smiles and attentive service will ensure a truly special experience.
Young Hmong women, dressed in beautiful traditional attire, warmly welcomed and assisted visitors throughout the event. Their presence added a charming touch to the occasion.
Our delicious meal
This meal consisted of a variety of dishes, including stuffed eggs, stir-fried chicken with basil, stir-fried mixed vegetables, and creamy chicken tom yum soup. For dessert, we enjoyed coconut jelly and fresh milk mousse. The mousse was so delicious that I had two cups! We finished the meal with some refreshing watermelon and pineapple.
After a satisfying meal, we were informed that a traditional Hmong performance would follow. The performers were authentic Hmong villagers residing in the vicinity. The show is held daily for all guests, even if only one person is present. Their dedication is truly admirable.
The performance space is located behind the dining room, but if there are a large number of guests, it may be moved to the lawn outside. There are 8 performances in total, each lasting no more than 30 minutes. They include singing, dancing, and games. At the end, we are invited to participate in the activities, which are a lot of fun and not boring at all. We especially enjoyed the part where we got to try throwing a large spinning top ourselves. The top is spun by wrapping a rope around it and then bending down to throw it out until the rope is fully unwound. Then you pull the rope back with your hand. It was exciting to see if the top would spin. When we managed to make it spin from the first try, we cheered with great joy.
The cooler night air invited a leisurely stroll and some playful photography before retreating to the comfort of warm blankets for a peaceful slumber.
The next day.
Waking up late today, I found the sky outside overcast with dark clouds, creating a gloomy atmosphere. I headed to the dining room for breakfast, where I was greeted with a selection of beverages, including orange juice, milk, hot water, and instant coffee and tea.
Followed by pancakes with syrup. The pancakes were very fluffy... The syrup was perfectly sweet, not cloying at all, very smooth.
The next dish was toast and croissants served with butter and fruit jam. The croissant was very soft and delicious even on its own. The bread was toasted to perfection and tasted amazing when warm with half butter and half jam (my personal recipe ^^).
The main course, an American breakfast, was meticulously prepared. Everything was cooked to perfection and the portions were incredibly generous!
The meal concluded with a generous serving of fruit, leaving us feeling pleasantly full. The fruit was of good quality and flavor.
After a hearty meal, we took some time to walk around the area to aid digestion. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor dining area, which had a European country vibe. The tables and chairs were made of wood with a light gold-colored metal frame. The view behind was of rice fields, trees, and mountains. The view was absolutely stunning, with a classic beauty.
Move closer to the same spot as before. This is a highlight view that you should not miss, which is the **"swimming pool"**. The crystal-clear water in the pool shimmers with bright blue tiles. The pool is surrounded by a wooden deck with sun loungers and chairs for you to relax on. There is a bar nearby, and most importantly, you can enjoy stunning views like this. It's amazing!!!
Let's continue our walk and explore other houses and the surrounding views. The lush greenery is truly refreshing, making it an ideal place to relax and unwind in the cool air. The trees and grass are vibrant and lush, and the accommodations, with their modern and classic Hmong style, are truly exceptional.

Before checking out, we zoomed in on the mountain view from the balcony of our room and saw this image. There was a building with a plus sign on it, which we later learned was a church. It is located in the village of Nong Hoi Mai, hence its name: "Nong Hoi Mai Church".
We decided to drive up the road towards Mon Cham, until we reached the path leading down to the Christian church.
So I stopped by to take a look. As I walked down the path, I passed a community of Thai hill tribe people. It was quite a steep slope. I met an elderly woman who was sewing. I myself am quite fond of sewing and embroidery. During my university days, I made a lot of shoes, bags, hair ties, bag tassels, earrings, and bracelets. Even though I don't dress up much these days, I still enjoy it. So I walked up to her and asked if she had any sewing for sale. The grandmother said that she didn't sell them, that she had sewn them for herself to wear during the New Year. The colors and patterns were so beautiful! And the grandmother let me take a picture as a souvenir. During our conversation, the grandmother was smiling and laughing brightly, but when I asked to take her picture, she suddenly became serious. ^^”
Following the road for a short while, you will see the church symbol. As you approach the entrance gate, you will find it closed. Feel free to open it and enter. Inside, you will find a caretaker with two young children. The gate is kept closed to prevent the children from running outside. Feel free to greet the children; they are adorable.
Christians can attend mass every Sunday as usual. Tourists can also enjoy the scenic views here. Come and see what beautiful views you can see from this point.
This is another spot worth stopping by for stunning views. The scenery is truly breathtaking, and I believe it's a hidden gem. If you're passing through Mon Cham, be sure to check out the view here. In addition to the beautiful scenery and cool air, there are also many black chickens roaming around, which are quite adorable.
After enjoying the breathtaking views and refreshing air, it's time to head to Mon Cham. This is a picture of the road from the church to Mon Cham.

"Mon Cham": A Scenic Mountaintop Destination in Northern Thailand
Nestled amidst the mountainous terrain of northern Thailand, "Mon Cham" stands as a captivating tourist destination. Situated in Mae Rim district, Chiang Mai, this scenic spot boasts an elevation of 1,350 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking panoramic views.
Originally known as "Kiew Seu," meaning "Tiger Pass," the area was once a desolate wilderness. However, the arrival of the Royal Project transformed the landscape. The project acquired the land and established the Nong Hoi Royal Project (Mon Cham).
Under the leadership of Khun Jaem Jaemcharas Suchiva, a descendant of Prince Bhisadej Rajani, the founder of the Royal Project Foundation, Mon Cham underwent significant development. The area was transformed into a thriving tourist destination, attracting visitors from near and far.
The eastern mountain has a viewpoint called "Mon Long", where visitors can enjoy the scenic views of the Royal Project area. It is a popular spot for watching the sea of mist, offering panoramic vistas. The path leading to the viewpoint is made of laterite soil, so a four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.
To the south, you can see the Hmong village of Nong Hoi and the surrounding area of the Royal Project Nong Hoi (Mon Cham). This area is dedicated to the cultivation and research of cold-weather vegetables and fruits, such as rosemary, mint, artichokes, grapes, and the Royal Project No. 80 strawberry variety. Various vegetables, including Doi Kham tomatoes, are also grown in this region.

Mon Cham remains a popular tourist destination for many visitors due to its proximity to the city, ease of access, cool and comfortable climate, and year-round blooming flowers. The views are truly spectacular, living up to its name.
In addition, there are shops selling agricultural products and Hmong clothing and accessories, allowing visitors to take home a piece of the local culture. These shops line both sides of the road, offering a wide variety of options.
