What is done with love often brings happiness to others. Kidthung Cottage is a prime example. This homestay was born from a longing for home. The foundation of longing comes from a heart filled with love ( >< ). We believe that longing and love are somehow connected. We miss after love, or love before we miss. We feel very good when someone says they miss us, but we don't often show it. Haha (a little formal).

Longing for Home: A Simple Yet Powerful Sentiment

"Though it was just a thought, Matt and Muna's longing for home led them to actually build a house. It wasn't just words spoken in passing. Their yearning for a cottage became a home built with love and decorated with longing." This homestay is thus infused with the love of its owners, who share their positive feelings with their guests.

The Beginning of Longing

This house belonged to Matt's father. After getting married, Matt moved to the main city of Krabi and worked as an architect. He didn't return home often, so the house was left abandoned and only used occasionally as a vacation home. Every time he returned, the house felt lonely and increasingly dilapidated. While Matt was building and beautifying houses for others, he neglected his own childhood home, filled with memories. This nostalgia led him to open the house as a homestay. With some renovations, he invited people to stay and experience the memories, hoping they would leave with a sense of connection. Later, he gradually expanded and continued to improve the property.

"Muna told us with a voice full of joy, and a smile on her face the whole time. We listened and smiled along with her, I don't know why, but it felt good."

Interior Atmosphere

002 Peaceful, Warm, and Joyful

Ko Klang, as its name suggests, is an island located in the middle of the Krabi River, right in the heart of Krabi town. Despite its proximity, the atmosphere on the island is vastly different, feeling like a completely different world, even though it's just a 2-minute boat ride away. The only way to reach the island is by boat, as cars are not allowed. Motorcycles, however, can be brought over with the help of the friendly locals who will assist you in loading and unloading your bike onto the boat. This isolation contributes to the island's peaceful atmosphere. We spent our New Year's break here, using the accommodation to rest our bodies and the conversations with Ms. Mona to soothe our minds. Our activities were limited to catching up with friends we hadn't seen in a while, listening to Ms. Mona's stories for inspiration for the year ahead, and simply letting the gentle breeze and time pass by. It's incredible that despite the scorching temperatures outside, the house remained cool and breezy, making for a truly relaxing experience.

The interior of the house is not air-conditioned, but it is not hot at all (the bedroom has air conditioning, but I forgot to take a picture of it). There are 3 rooms available, and they are not open for individual bookings. If you book as a group, you will get a private room with no other guests. Therefore, only 3 groups are accepted per day. We did not book in advance, but luckily the rooms were not full, so we were able to stay in a room for 6 people (but we got a room for 6 people each, so we slept in two beds each).

Price: 500 baht per person, including accommodation and breakfast. For lunch and dinner, Ms. Mona said that she will recommend going to eat with the villagers to distribute income to the villagers as well. This is a way to support sustainable tourism. When taking customers to buy snacks from the villagers, even if it is only a few baht, the villagers will be very happy that we are thinking of them. In addition, customers will also learn about the villagers' way of life. For those who want to bring food to have a party, grill, or barbecue, Ms. Mona is happy to provide the service.

Travel to the island
Thara Public Park Pier (If you bring a motorcycle, you can only board this boat.)
- Price per person 10 baht / Foreigner 20 baht
- Price per car 20 baht (depending on the number of cars on the boat each round)
Saphan Chao Fah Pier (If you don't bring a motorcycle, you can get off at this pier. Walk from the pier to Khao Thung Cottage.)
- Price per person 20 baht

The house has four bathrooms, two inside and two outside. We particularly love the outdoor bathrooms, from the tiles to the plants. They offer a unique blend of old-world charm and modern convenience.

The placement of the dragon jar in the bathroom complements the tile design very well. (The water in the jar is very cold, so it is recommended to use a regular shower instead.)

003: Good Morning with Good Foods

The pleasant atmosphere fills our bodies with contentment, associating with good people fills our hearts with joy, but delicious food fills both our bodies, hearts, and stomachs. Breakfast here consists of local dishes such as Khanom Jeen, Nam Ya, Tai Pla, Khao Kluk Kapi, Gai Go, Khao Niao Kai Tod, Khao Mok Neua, and various traditional desserts. These dishes are prepared in small portions to allow guests to sample a wide variety.

4 Hours of Art

We noticed a postcard-sized watercolor painting in the house, so we wanted to try painting too. Moonah said she needed some time to prepare her supplies and then cycled out of the house. She returned with a variety of colorful flowers, which we call "side-of-the-house colors." These colors were created from materials found around the house, all 100% natural. This made our painting experience much more enjoyable, as we were able to paint with natural colors. Even though our painting skills are still limited to mountains, suns, birds, sunlight, and stick figures, we couldn't help but admire the meticulous detail and dedication to mixing colors from nature. Our third-grade art project was coming to life. Moonah started by mixing side-of-the-house colors with water, flowers from the fence, soil from the front yard, and fallen leaves, creating a palette of colors waiting to be used.

Black - from the soil of the central island
Purple - from butterfly pea flower
Pink - from dok chongyang flower, mulberry
Yellow - from turmeric
Brown - from coffee, tea
Light brown - from leaves
Dark pink - from cactus fruit (is that right?)
And many other colors that I can't remember

Our work may be a bit off-kilter, but it's as charming as we are.

Once finished, it would be lovely to turn it into a postcard to send. It would be a one-of-a-kind postcard. :)

Two days and one night on our island paradise: a short trip to remember.

We recently enjoyed a quick getaway to our favorite island, and we're already planning our next visit. Soon, we'll be opening a cozy coffee corner for those passing by. If you're planning a trip to the island, feel free to stop by and enjoy a cup of coffee with us.

We also invite you to join us in a unique artistic experience. If you're interested in painting and want to capture the island's beauty on canvas, simply let Moonah know in advance, and she'll prepare the necessary materials for you.

This trip was a reminder that simple things can bring immense joy. The genuine warmth and hospitality of our hosts filled our hearts with happiness. It's truly inspiring to see how acts of love and kindness can have such a positive impact on others.

The Cottage Homestay, born from a simple longing, has blossomed into a haven of love and connection. We believe its story is far from over, and we look forward to witnessing its continued growth and the positive energy it brings to all who visit.

Missing the cottage, the island, Krabi
And we will miss each other again

What else can be done on the island?

If anyone wants additional activities, P'Muna actually has other activities to recommend depending on the different stages of life on the island. During this time, there will be rice-related activities with the villagers, so you can join in. When we went, P'Matt took the tourists from the accommodation to hike Khao Ngon Nak together. If you want any additional programs, the owner will arrange everything for you (very cute). Or if you want to focus on relaxation, we also have some simple activities to recommend.

A) Take a long-tailed boat ride along the Krabi River and admire the limestone cliffs.

The translation of "ชมหินงอกหินย้อนถ้ำเขาขนาบน้ำ" is "Visit the stalactites and stalagmites in the Khao Khanap Nam Cave."

C) Take a break and observe the way of life of the islanders.

D) Create batik fabric

E) Learn how to build a traditional Thai long-tailed boat.
