As a Japanese enthusiast, I couldn't miss the opportunity to see hundreds of Japanese treasures on display in Bangkok.

However, what exceeded expectations was that Brother Bang India also brought his own items to show off. Moreover, the Thai antiquities, which are 1,000 years old, were no less impressive. The trip, which I thought would only take a short time, ended up lasting almost 4 hours. I was so engrossed that I'm not sure when I adjusted the ISO from 800 to 8000...

* The camera's ISO sensitivity rating. The higher the value, the easier it is to shoot in dark places, but the lower the image quality. 8000 is considered very high, and is not commonly used by ordinary people.

Built in 1782 alongside the Grand Palace, the Front Palace initially served as the residence of the Uparaja, a position considered second only to the king. Following the abolition of the Uparaja position during the reign of King Rama V, the palace gradually transitioned into a museum. It officially opened as the National Museum during the reign of King Rama VII.

The complex houses numerous buildings, some of which have been renovated with dazzling lights, while others remain dimly lit, awaiting their turn for a makeover.

Exhibition: "Path of Faith from Japanese Art"

This special exhibition commemorates the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan.

Between Wednesday, December 27, 2017 and Sunday, February 18, 2018.

At the exit, there was a booth offering Japanese woodblock printing. Seeing the beautiful prints made by the previous visitor, I decided to give it a try. However, my attempt turned out to be a complete mess.

Red Palace

The Phra Thinang Phutthaisawan Throne Hall

The Maha Sura Singhanat Building

Rich in ancient artifacts dating back thousands of years, this site is rarely visited by tourists, making it an ideal location for undisturbed photography.

Phra Pathom Chedi Museum Building

The museum was mostly closed for renovations, and the open rooms were rather dilapidated. However, there were still some interesting exhibits to see.

Uttaraphimuk Pavilion

The room is freshly renovated, with the scent of newness still lingering in the air.

The residence of Prince Pinklao on the first floor is unremarkable, but the second floor is stunning. Don't miss it!

Food in Tha Phra Chan

After a four-hour walk, the energy was depleted. The duck bear looked for food near Tha Phra Chan, resulting in a small food review.

New Yong Huat Restaurant

Mixed noodles with roasted pork, duck, and crispy pork - 55 baht

Duck with rice + Crispy pork - 50 baht

Both dishes were delicately flavored. The duck was tender, and the crispy pork had thin, crispy skin. The rice sauce was salty, sweet, and fragrant with Chinese herbs. However, the noodles were a bit oily and the portions were small. I was not satisfied and would not recommend it.

Water Blended at Tha Phra Chan

Yentafo - 40 Baht

Driven by hunger, I veered into a nearby restaurant and ordered a bowl of spicy Yen Ta Fo. The broth was predominantly salty, with a distinct aroma of fermented tofu. The fish balls and fish meat were of good quality and delicious.

Delicious

Garlic bread - 40 baht

Next up for dessert, garlic bread from "Aroy" restaurant. Even with the long queue, Auntie didn't give up and finally got to taste it.

This bread is light and fluffy, unlike other brands that are hard. It has a sweet and buttery flavor, similar to buttered toast, with a hint of garlic. It's easy to eat, but the downside is that I only got a few bites before the lady boss took it away…

Summary

+ Excellent museum, very fulfilling, worth the 30 baht ticket price.

The Japanese exhibition is stunning and well worth seeing before it returns to Japan.

This is a popular tourist destination with numerous photo opportunities, especially for those who enjoy capturing scenic views. However, the lighting conditions can be challenging, with significant variations in brightness across different areas. This requires constant camera adjustments, providing valuable practice for photographers.

  • Several sections are closed for renovation.

- The noodles sold inside the museum are not very tasty. If you are hungry, trying the rice with curry might be a better option.
