Immerse yourself in the ancient Thai way of life at the Gonggong Market... Let's go shopping at Gonggong!

The "Koeng Koeng Market" is a place where we can bend over to buy things, just like people in the old days used to bend over to buy things in the market. (In those days, there were no counters to buy things, so they had to put them on a mat or on the ground, making people bend over to buy things. That's where the name "Koeng Koeng Market" comes from.) And of course, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, our old capital city that was once prosperous, is the location of this Koeng Koeng Market.

Don't let the holidays pass by without doing anything. Let's take a trip to a nearby province of Bangkok, "Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya", at "Kong Koeng Market".

Travel advice: It is recommended to use a private car.

The Koeng Koeng Market is located in Khanon Luang Subdistrict, Bang Pa-in District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. In the past, this area was the Khanon Checkpoint (a tax collection point (in the Sukhothai period, it was probably called "Changkop", but during the Ayutthaya period, it was changed to "Khanon Tax" or "Transit Tax"). At that time, it existed from the Sukhothai period to the Ayutthaya period). It was also a place where various goods were bought and sold, including both local products and goods from other cities.

In the market, there are shops for tourists to take pictures (in ancient times, taking pictures was called "drawing pictures" because it was like drawing the shadow or shape of a person or thing into the camera). The clothes they wear make us feel even more immersed in the experience.

Upon entering the market, we were immediately struck by the sight of the vendors, both men and women, dressed in traditional attire. The women wore "chong kraben" (a type of wraparound skirt) or "pha thung" (a筒裙), while the men sported "pha aor" (a type of open-necked shirt) and "keng ob" (a type of headwear). This attire evoked a strong sense of the Ayutthaya period, although it is unclear whether it was directly inspired by historical clothing or simply a modern interpretation. Regardless, the overall effect was that of being transported back in time to an ancient marketplace.

The market offers a wide variety of food options, including many old and traditional items that you may have forgotten about or not seen for a long time.
