In late April, after enjoying the cherry blossoms, friends who came to Japan to see the flowers may want to see other types of flowers. I recommend adding a trip to see the lovely Nemophila flowers in Ibaraki Prefecture to your itinerary.

Hitachi Seaside Park (Kokuei Hitachi Kaihinkoen = 国営ひたち海浜公園) is the go-to park for admiring Nemophila flowers.

Hitachi Seaside Park, located in Ibaraki Prefecture north of Tokyo, offers visitors a year-round display of flowers. However, it is particularly renowned for its blue Nemophila fields in April and red Kochia fields in October.

Journey to Hitachi Seaside Park

From Ueno Station:

  • Take the JR Joban Line to Katsuta Station.
  • Transfer to a special bus bound for Hitachi Seaside Park.
  • The journey takes approximately 30 minutes.

Before boarding the bus, it is recommended to purchase a 1-day pass coupon for 1,200 yen at Katsuta Station. This pass allows for round-trip bus travel between Katsuta Station and the park, and it also serves as an entrance ticket to the park.

The optimal time to view Nemophila flowers is between late April and early May.

Avoid visiting on weekends and during Japan's Golden Week holidays.

The breathtakingly beautiful Miharashi Hill, with its over 450,000 blooming Nemophila flowers, creates a magical and enchanting atmosphere.

The garden is open from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission fee is 410 yen for adults and 80 yen for children.
