A Short Trip to Chonburi: Discovering Local Delicacies
This blog post explores the hidden gems of Chonburi, Thailand, beyond its popular beaches and football team. We embark on a culinary adventure to discover the freshest seafood at the newly relocated Ang Sila fishing market.
Beyond the Beaches and Football:
When you hear "Chonburi," what comes to mind? Most likely, images of the vibrant beaches of Bang Saen and Pattaya or the passionate fans of Chonburi FC, the local football team, spring to mind. While these are undoubtedly significant aspects of the province, Chonburi offers much more than meets the eye.
Exploring the Ang Sila Fishing Market:
Nestled along the coast, the Ang Sila fishing market is a treasure trove of fresh seafood. Recently relocated, the market boasts a vibrant atmosphere and an abundance of local catches. From succulent prawns and glistening fish to exotic shellfish, the market caters to every seafood lover's desire.
Seasonal Fluctuations and Market Dynamics:
The prices at the market fluctuate depending on various factors, including the time of day, festivals, seasons, and weather conditions. During my visit on April 15th, the prices were influenced by the Songkran festival and the monsoon season. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for navigating the market and making informed purchases.
A Culinary Adventure Awaits:
Join me on this culinary journey as we delve into the heart of the Ang Sila fishing market, uncovering the freshest seafood and experiencing the vibrant local culture. Let's embark on a gastronomic adventure and discover the hidden treasures of Chonburi.
Let's start exploring the market.
There are quite a few people here today.
Squid, let me emphasize that squid is not octopus.
Today's cuttlefish costs 300 baht per kilogram. I want to tell you that 1 piece is already more than 1 kilogram.
Here's how to choose: the flesh must be firm and not reddish, the tentacles must be complete, and the squid's eyes must be clear black.
Barramundi
A popular economic fish among all Thai people. The regular menu is probably
1. Steamed Barramundi with Lime 2. Steamed Barramundi with Soy Sauce 3. Deep-fried Barramundi with Fish Sauce
How to choose a good fish, hmm, let's just say, try poking it. The fish meat should not be indented. The fish meat must be firm. The fish's gills must be red or bright pink. The fish's eyes must be clear, not cloudy. And if you can smell it, it shouldn't smell rotten.
Striped shrimp from the sea
Today, I brought my dad from Bangkok to help me carry things. I want to be a pretty girl.
I forgot to ask the price. How much is it? The whole tray is definitely fresh. I checked it myself.
Blue crab or meat crab
This one is light, 1500 baht per kilogram.
Cockles
To be honest, I don't like to eat shellfish. But my girlfriend loves it. Cockle salad, here you go. The cockles are very big. There are even bigger ones if you like them giant.
Sweet clams
To be honest, I've never eaten this type of clam before, but I can tell you that it's very fresh.
Fresh mussels
Affordable price, large size, full of meat, let's go!
Snacks and drinks are a must! 555+
Let's continue!
This fish is incredibly delicious! You should definitely buy it. It's versatile and can be used in a variety of dishes.
And the must-have item when visiting Chonburi is...
This is just a small part of the market. I would like to invite everyone who comes to Chonburi to come and support us. I sincerely hope that all visitors to Chonburi will have a happy and memorable experience.
A short trip, a small trip, the best of Chonburi. Don't let the reviewers down, brothers and sisters.
